Memory loss
Just a teeny observation of my mum now she has just turned 60.

When she wants to address me she goes through the whole family before she gets my name right, sisters, dad and dog included!? I just let her do it, as eventually she does get there by which time I have ususally left the room...

Has anyone elses mum lossed the power of memory in their older age?

Apart from that she is awesome!

My mum's done that all my life
I have four sisters, and she grew up with two sisters and a brother, so often she'll use the wrong name a couple of times before settling on the correct one. For some reason though the running joke in our family is for her or somebody listening to throw the name "Maud!" into the list. Never understood why.

tradition in my family states that, despite the given name, all people must be referred to/called upon with either Dan or Tam.

There are no Daniels anywhere in my family tree, and only one Thomas - who is on a lower branch than I am.

Except I confuse my niece, nephew and both dogs. Somehow. I blame my mother who started it all.

On a semi-related note, my dad's mum called my nephew Douglas despite him being known as Daniel to everyone else.

Routinely....
My mother regularly calls me Billy, Ricky, or Robby (her brothers' names), Pat (dad), Ray (her uncle). But what really made me concerned was when she called me Audrey (paternal grandmother) a few months ago. Now, I am her only child - a fat 30-year-old biologist. My grandmother was 96, quite thin/frail, and very happily retired for 35 years. Apparently, my mother couldn't tell the difference.
