My Collection
Do you have display cabinets full of stuff? With it all neatly labelled, cross-referenced and entered into a database. Have you been to a convention? Do other collectors look up to you in awe?
I thought I was above this one. I'm not that autistically geeky that I have a Collection with a capital C. But no, I remembered I'm hoarding away every version of "Inside Macintosh" ever published.
What do you collect? And why? I mean, what makes you do it?

tubes
From the age of 10 to 12 I collected bog-roll tubes, and I have no recollection of why.
My mum made me throw them away when I'd collected over twelvetythousand* of them.
*maybe nearer to 500.

Cool Collection? Probably Not.
I'm afraid I've always been a bit of a hoarder, but my worst weakness, being left-handed, is for guitars.
I was asked, the other day, how many guitars I've actually got by a female colleague, and in working out the answer, I was shocked to realise that I've got over twenty of the things.
They're all kept in a walk-in cupboard in the flat, and it's getting difficult to close the door to it.
My girlfriend thinks they're all made by the same company : Fartumeni.
And that's before we start discussing the various amplifiers.

Mainly music orientated
I have quite a CD collection, including something like 60 Metallica CD's (all but three are bootlegs) - these include some monster rarities, as well as just about every single on every format since 1992. I also have lots of singles by bands like terrorvision, therapy? and the Wildhearts and their spin off bands. I'm having a clearout so if anyone might be interested in them they can contact me via my webpage (look in my profile)
DVD's - a shedload. Not of any particluar genre, though a lot of British Comedy (Spaced, Blackadder, Bottom, Young Ones, League of gentelmen and so on) - this comes of a nasty play habit and lots of night shifts with nothing to do.
I have quite a decent collection of concert tickets, press and AAA passes which I have accumulated over the years. My particular fave is the laminate from the Wildhearts tour with a granny showing her 'horses collar' and the words "FUCK OFF - I'M WITH THE BAND!" on it.
Tour T-shirts going back to the late 80's - some are now stored away in a suitcase for posterity.
An awful amount of Loaded magazines - again these are for sale if anyone wants them - includes the Kylie cover issue which I saw once going for 20 quid on ebay.

World's largest collection
I collect grudges, and have the world's biggest assortment.
I've been accumulating them since the age of 5, when my dad smacked me for saying "fuck", and I've never given any up. Every now and then I'll take a few out of storage and brood over them till they shine like new. This collection will continue to grow until I die. If I can find a way of bequeathing them to my kids I will. Until then I shall cling to them, even though their toxins leave me stunted with hatred and bitterness.

Cutlery of Unusual Size.
my grandmother collects giant cutlery.
her walls are covered with giant forks, or spoons, knives, ladles and god-knows what the names of some of the various shaped things are.
we have no idea where she gets them.
when she keels over, we're going to have a dinner party and set the table with them all.
---
my cock is generous, but it's dwarfed by the 4m chopsticks on the living room wall :(

I collect music
I have no idea why, but I've moved on from the obligatory stamp collection (10,000 maybe of the things, and they're probably damp and mouldy by now). Now I collect music, usually entire discographies of artists I like one song of, only to find that really that one song was the only good thing they ever did. Still, I hang on to them, so by now I have about 60 gigs of music, half of which I never listen to, and probably never will. Anybody want the complete Phil Collins? The big band version of Sussuidio is the only song I can bear listening to...

Dragons.
I have a collection of dragon related figurine type things, these range from little china ones to a sodding heavy concrete one outside my front door. I also seem to be collecting payslips from where I work, I've been there 5, possibly nearly 6 years (I can't really tell because its all one monotonous blur) and I don't think I've thrown away any of my monthly payslips since I started, I've got draw stuffed with them. I really don't know why I don't chuck most of them out. Also had the obligatory Magic The Gathering/Pokemon card collection many moons ago.
Apologies for lack of humour and you can make something up about length/girth yourselves.

Stickerss
Far from the romance of collected cup of man-mike, I must confess that I am the owner (note the lack of the word ‘proud’) of a massive collection of football sticker-albums.
Panini, Merlin, you name it, I’ve got it!
Although as years go by and my interest in them wains, I now buy them, fully completed from e-bay, rather than the ritual disappointment of buying a packet of stickers in the hope that it cotains a foil.
In fact, from my Mexico 86 sticker album, I am actually missing ONE sticker, the Poland badge. But I’m past caring now, I re-decorated the album with one of those silver marker pens that out-lined In blue. (where the fuck idd that come from/??)
Look, I’m bladdered, I’ll efit this tomorrow and makemore sense about the wholethings.
Granted, being this drunk might be a good things, I just don’t knowanymore.
I love gin.
Mullered, who clearly has a promble.

i'm also a pratchett fan
and i also have all the discworld books
the obscure ones don't interest me most of the time as they tend to be publisher recommended rather than author created, i don't have the truckers series cos frankly it doesn't interest me, people who brag about having everything a particular author, artist etc are slightly sad.but only in the bragging aspect.
my collections? well i've got all three star wars mr potato head special editions (ain't i cool)
each one was bought for me by the same person as a present.

Bootlegs and Bacardi Caps
Bootlegs of live metal shows... it's a pity most of them are awful quality, and that if you download a whole tour, you end up with about 12+ copies of each track they did on the tour. I wouldn't say I'm a paticularly avid collector, more like it's something that I'm slowing starting and hopefully will have a lot of them eventually.
Despite downloading as much music as I wanted for the last couple of years, I've now started to buy CDs, starting a nice little CD collection, don't ask me where this conscience came from, all I know is that my bank balance would like it to go back so that I can return to being the music thieving souless bastard I once was.
When I was a wee kiddie, I decided to start collecting Bacardi bottle caps (they were colourful, and had bats on them man - freakin bats!!) so my childish mind developed a meandering attraction to them.
And I also have the obligatory (for geeks) Magic The Gathering collections, warhammer models and large collection of sci-fi/fantasy books occuring.

I also have every Pratchett book. Including the Science of Discworld ones and obscure ones like the Ankh-Morpork Post Office Diary 2007. And they all sit in order of original publications, not re-prints. Anyone out of the loop who attempts to read them from my shelf in order has no chance.
I'm 19, and told I need to get out more.
-------------------------------------------
When I'm not reading, I collect Zippo Lighters. Just started so I have a grand total of 5. In one week.
I also seem to collect CDs which I never listen to. Stretching from Biffy Clyro to Frank Zappa. I still buy CDs, but I download most of my music.
I also have a collection of limited edition vinyl singles from the 70s. Coloured vinyls, picture discs, white labels, rare editions, limited release, shaped vinyls. Although, that one I owe exclusivly to my dad. At last count there were 700+ singles in the collection(multiples dont count) and he insists on adding to them.

I've got all 59 of them. Plus the 'Sorcery' mini-series of 4 books. Plus every other book made by Jackson and Livingstone.
Also I've got every Terry Pratchett book ever written.

As young kids of about 7, me and my girly pal H made a collection of pictures of celebrities chins in to a book.
We found it amusing at the time.
Would kill for a length joke right now.

Erm...
When I was knee high to a really big mutant grasshopper, I somehow began to amass a varied assortment of badges. These were collected from numerous school outings to museums, cathedrals and other such boring places that felt the need to imprint their logo on a shiny piece of metal that excitable youngsters could proudly display to the world and boast of their travels to the further reaches of Llandrindod Wells and the Cosford Air Museum.
Quite how I found these appealing is a mystery, but I still have a large tub full of them and by jove am I glad! So many happy memories riffling through: a Green Cross Code badge; a Wimpys badge, He Man, Blue Peter, Rolf's Cartoon Club, Bingo's Bottle Bank... the list goes on. Ok so I may have got teased at the time, but how many of them have a Clarks shoes badge they can wear with pride at the school reunion??
Oh yeah.. one time I bought the very first single by a band called 'A' purely because in an interview they said the song was about how old people get up at 5 in the morning to prepare vegetables for dinner. I got the 2nd single, then the 3rd. Then they started to get big. And I went off them. But for some unknown reason I couldn't stop buying their CDs. I now have 18 'A' CDs and 3 vinyl which I will never listen to. Great.
