It's my own fault for not getting up early enough to make something nice.

I'm thinking poached egg on toast
That has some vague pretence at being not too lardy.

I might do poached egg with asparagus for dinner,
I'm shit at poached eggs though, really shit.

Do the "20 seconds in the shell first" thing
before you crack them into the water. Makes them stay together better
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 12:48, Reply)
I do them in the microwave
Small coffee cup, bit of water, 1 minute in microwave. Add egg, 40 seconds on full power. Blinding.
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 12:49, Reply)
Intriguing
I shall give that a try

I really like sprinkling sea salt and butter over aspagous and putting it in the oven for 20 minutes so the ends crisp up.
Really nice.

Sounds good to me

(, Thu 26 May 2011, 12:58, Reply)
how does one sprinkle butter?

(, Thu 26 May 2011, 12:59, Reply)
With ease, if it's melted, you spanner.

(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:03, Reply)
What if it's a knob of butter?

(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:06, Reply)
Melt it, then sprinkle it.
For crying out loud, B3th.
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:14, Reply)
Freeze it and then great it.
But for those who CBA to do that, dollop the butter and sprinkle the sea salt.

If I get you in the Secret Santa, you're totally getting a dictionary

=)
To be honest, if you've only just noticed my spellings, then you're the one who needs the dictionary.

Not sure how that will help with dyslexia.

I feel fairly certain that Gonz's computer already has a dictionary function in it.

Asparagus is best on the griddle, I reckon.
Drizzled just prior to serving with balsamic vinegar and QOTW olive oil, and topped with black pepper and parmesan shavings.

Have you had them done in the microwave? I do a well nice meal which is 100% microwave.
Poach an egg in the microwave (mug 50% water plus egg in it for 1:40ish), and on another plate put a muffin cut in half with layer of loads of aspagous on each top with some butter... then put the poached egg on top of the muffin and enjoy.
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:07, Reply)
I haven't.
I need microwave recipes, my oven's broken.
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:09, Reply)
Baked potato and beans.

I do a wicked carbonara in the microwave, I go get a microwave pasta meal....etc.
The poached egg works well, fill a mug half way with water, crack an egg in it, then turn it on for 1:20, and then another 10s to check, another 10s, check... etc. Until it's how you like it. Watch out though because too much and it'll explode. Then sive/slotted-spoon it.
(, Thu 26 May 2011, 13:12, Reply)
Didn't the microwave come with a book of recipes?
They usually do. I think I have one somewhere.

Mine was given to me by a colleague so I got no recipe book.
I did once see a fucking hilarious microwave cookbook from when they were new, telling you how to do the perfect roast chicken etc.

Almost as funny as Delia Smith's early books. 'Take a tin of pineapple chunks, spray canned Anchor cream on it and top with a glace cherry' etc.
