Morning all!
I had Marmite for breakfast for the first time in weeks, and I feel ready to face the day! (despite the 4 hours sleep I've had)

I started watching Dexter last night, after being told over and over again how good it was. I have to say, it's fantastic, I've really enjoyed the episodes I've seen so far!

So, what recommendations were passed onto you that were unexpectedly great?

Alt: What recommendations were passed onto you that were shitty?

I watched the first episode of Game of Thrones last night
I suspect that series, as recommended, will turn out to be awesome.

As for shitty things, well. I wouldn't say that had been recommended so much as it being my own lack of judgement.
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 8:30, Reply)
I've got that on my list to watch
It was at the top, but my friend gave me Dexter, meaning I didn't even need to download it.

Due to my laziness, this moved it to the top of the list!
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 8:33, Reply)
it is totally awesome
each episode is better than the one before.

A television programme engendered feelings of 'total awe' in you?
What a strange boy you are. Imagine if you saw something genuinely awe-inspiring. You'd probably have heart failure.
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 9:18, Reply)
This, sadly, reminds me of a bit in George Of The Jungle
Narrator: "When they saw the mountain, they reacted with awe."
All: "Awwwww."
N: "Awe. A, W, E.
A: "Oooh!"
N: "That's better."
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 9:25, Reply)
Oh AA. Shame on you.

My friend recommended a Bloody Mary

Eugh

I've ordered a DVD of Lemmy's rock'n'roll side project 'Head Cat' this morning.
There are two LPs as well, which I shall, errr, acquire.

Worst news of all, the first 5 Hawkwind LPs have been remastered and reissued on heavy 180g vinyl, including a new album of unreleased alternate mixes. Great timing. I'm fucking potless.

Morning Monty!
Meant to tell you, I was rather disappointed to only be able to watch 3 songs of Motorhead at Sonisphere, due to my own stupidity.
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 9:09, Reply)
Kind of the opposite, but my wife and I were discouraged from watching the film About Schmidt..
..by her sister and brother-in-law. They said it was the worst film they'd ever seen at the cinema. When we got around to watching it we absolutely loved it.

Dexter is great, we've watched it from the start. This current series is alright but has a lot to live up to after the John Lithgow season.

Judging a film by the trailer is a very bad idea.

(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 9:31, Reply)
Not always
Some trailers whet my appetite quite well, some can even get me really looking forward to the film.

I'm not saying I won't watch it, I just mean the trailer made it look rubbish, so I wasn't tempted.
(, Thu 21 Jul 2011, 9:33, Reply)
Michael Bay films are fine to judge by the trailer
in fact it's not even necessary to see the film anymore after you have watched one.

Breaking Bad
It really is fucking great but everyone I talk too says "Oh I watched the first few and I didn't get in to it"

Idiots! Its so awesome, for example in shit programs/films they slit someones throat and they drop dead instantly from a shallow flesh wound that they would probably survive in real life.

In Breaking Bad this week a guy got slashed on the side of the neck with a Stanley knife, the guy then grabs his head and pulls it so the wound opens up and the guy bleeds to death gargling on his own blood and dies slowly over the course of several glorious close up minutes before being dumped on the floor still slightly gurgling, being dragged in to a barrel and dissolved in hydrofluoric acid.

You just don't get entertainment like that anywhere else.
