This is the truest word spoken
I cannot think of a politian since John Smith who I actually liked as a person. They all may start off idealists but power does corrupt.

The man has yet to speak anything but good sense and truth in my book, thus he will never have and power at all.

Billy Bragg talked about voting LD at a gig I went to last year - a tactical vote in his constituency to try and keep the tory out.

At the last election was very difficult for me to work out who to vote for.
Was living in Battersea - highly marginal seat - labour by about 150 votes. The MP was a fucking good constituency MP - did a lot about public transport, homelessness etc - was interested in his constituents not ministerial office.
I wanted to vote for him, but I couldn't as it would have meant I was also voting to keep Gordon Brown in office.

This probably won't make me very popular...
But I am one of the few who would have kept Brown in office. Especially given the alternatives.
That aside, if your MP was "a fucking good constituency MP", that is a good reason for voting for him. Are you happy with who you have now?

and about the only one I've seen from a politician in a long time. I think I also once heard him say "don't be stupid, of course we'd have to raise taxes to pay for it", which was nice.

We didn't say his response was right, just honest and human.
If someone attacks you in any way, you tend to want to fight back in some way, this differs depending on the person.

Probably.
I'm as much of a namby pamby lefty pacifist as the next man but I do not hold that ever hitting anyone is neccesarily wrong, Leaving the massive red herring of spousal abuse to one side for a second, I've been hit by an egg at close range, it fucking hurt, it was assault and while I do not feel that 2 wrongs make a right, I don't think a punch is any worse, while I do not say it's the correct response, I think it is understandable and most of us have lost our temper and done or said things that we might have chosen not to when thinking rationally.

My girlfriend's Mum's second marriage was to a chap who was involved in the local labour party, nowt fancy just yer keen supporter who does the footslogging.
They were invited to a garden party at the Prescott's and reported them as being genuinely decent and interested in all of their guests. Pauline had apparently prepared pretty much all the food herself and happily stood serving the guests.
When gf's Mum died. John Prescott took the time to send a hand written letter of condolence, despite being deputy PM at the time.
