You whizzle? have you read American Psycho?

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:13, 1 reply, 14 years ago)
Nope and thank fuck for that.
Couldn't you have said you visited an appartment without copying shite from a book?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:17, Reply)
It wasn't copied.
American Psycho is a very, very good novel. One of the most important texts of the last thirty years.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:19, Reply)
So if it wasn't copied then you came up with this?
Important how?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:22, Reply)
It is in the American Psycho style, inspired by the building.
And important in terms of how it reconciled moralistic, Swiftian satire with the economic savagery of the Eighties.

From a technical point of view, it is a very cleverly constructed piece of fiction which addresses the Gothic, the city, the body, representations of the masculine, misogyny and wittily subverts vampire tropes in the modern Gothic.

It is also very, very funny.

Alright?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:27, Reply)
someone just started an english lit course!

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:29, Reply)
Someone completed a course with a very high mark.

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:31, Reply)
we all be so impressed mister!

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:36, Reply)
I'm not trying to impress anyone.
I'm not trying to fuck you, or get a job working for you, so why the shit would I want to impress you? Just because you jumped to an incorrect assumption due to your own dickheadedness and status as OT's biggest wrongcock, and I put you right, does not mean I am trying to impress anyone.

Alright?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:45, Reply)
bless!
all i said was that i was v. impressed!
which i AM!
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:48, Reply)
Alright Doz-one,
You seem a little upset.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:50, Reply)
all i said was that i was impressed by his qualifications,
after he took the time to put me right and explain to me his qualifications (not that he was doing so to impress me or anything, that was just, i thought at least, a happy side effect of him going to pains to explain his qualifications to me)
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:51, Reply)
I don't see why he'd be angry at that,
He does have impressive qualifications. Makes you think his insecurities are more complex. Maybe he was touched as a child.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:55, Reply)
hey no need to suggest those sorts of things,
the guy completed a course with a VERY high mark.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:55, Reply)
I'm proud of him.

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:58, Reply)
DOZER FOR MOD!

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:59, Reply)
So you did write this knock off nme music review.
Sorry, you ripped off a book that you say is important but made it look like a weak media student attempt.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:29, Reply)
Haha!
*sits down with popcorn*
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:32, Reply)
Budge over, I want to see this too.

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:32, Reply)
*proffers popcorn*
Rub my feet will you?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:34, Reply)
No probs.
*Grabs massive handful of popcorn with one hand*
*gives half-hearted foot rub with the other*
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:36, Reply)
You can pick that scab on my big toe if you want : )

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:45, Reply)
*vomits copiuosly*

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:49, Reply)
if you get it off in one piece,
Can I eat it?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:51, Reply)
You're welcome to it.

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:52, Reply)
Hahaha!

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:53, Reply)
It's not a knockoff NME review.
And the style is deliberately gauche. I wrote it as a nod to the Batemanism of the building.

So your story is that you didn't get the joke and you don't really know what you're talking about.

Bravo that man.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:33, Reply)
wait are you trollin,
cos we hatin!
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:37, Reply)

I got your wow so intelligent wanking.
Well done you.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:01, Reply)
Thanks bbz.

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:34, Reply)
bullshit
it's one of the books of the last 30 years that you've read, there's a difference
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:24, Reply)
Right.
So you assume that I consider most books I read from the last 30 years as seminal and worthy of cultural preservation, amirite?

I have read many, many, many books from the last 30 years and there are very very few which I consider to be culturally important.

American Psycho is one of them, Lilac & Flag is another, as is Atomised. I stand by that statement, and I'm backed up on that by a very wide range of academics.

Alright?
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:30, Reply)
golly gosh u so smartz

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:36, Reply)

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:38, Reply)
Yup.
He's alright actually, just very, very sure he's right about stuff, which would be OK if it was true more often.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:42, Reply)
well he did complete a course with a high mark,
not that he said that to impress anyone or anything, i just happened to be impressed by that, which is fair really, it is impressive
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:55, Reply)
Well, good GCSE grades are something to be proud of, innit?

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:57, Reply)
totally, or a levels, or whatever it is you get after that,
which is why i was impressed! yet got abuse thrown at me, i guess i deserve it, i didn't complete a course with a very high mark.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:59, Reply)
That you do.
We are not worthy Mr. Goblin, we are not worthy.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:02, Reply)
Standard Grades old boy.
I completed the first part of my secondary education north of the border.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:17, Reply)
Commiserations?

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:18, Reply)
Actually, the Scottish educational system is, and always has been, better than the English one.
More successful and a broader curriculum.

And this is 100% not jingoistic, patriotic claptrap. That sort of shit winds me up as much as men that wear ties with short sleeved shirts.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:24, Reply)
haha yeh right

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:27, Reply)
absolutely true.
Look it up.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:32, Reply)
Oh, right
thought you meant you only got standard grades to start with because you were in Scatlind, but the good ones came when you moved south.

So was it actually and eng. lit. degree, I gots half of one of those.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:30, Reply)
I did Standard Grades and then moved down here and did A Levels.
The boarding house at my school had closed so I had to move school.

And yeah, an English degree. You can tell, because I used the words 'jingoistic' and 'claptrap'.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:34, Reply)
do they even count?

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 22:20, Reply)
hey so dozer, what song has the best opening line of all time?
the answer by the way is plaistow patricia anything else and you're wrong sorry.
(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:40, Reply)

(, Thu 17 Nov 2011, 21:46, Reply)
well so turns out you're wrong, what were the odds!
from someone so smart and everything, guess you can't be right all the time.
