Wow, what a fabulous day it is today, it's a winning kind of day. The kind of day that makes you think "You know what....[something you should be doing], you're all MINE".
Last night I started working on a new project, a mobile phone app, my first one. It's a damn site more complicated than what I thought two days ago but still a damn site less complicated than I thought about a month ago. I set myself a coding challange at work to get it done this weekend, and by lordy, I shall finish it ! I was up 'till about 3 last night doing it.
Alt: What's your plans for the following week?

This isn't a joke BTW, but apparently the guy that did it, they we're following him so he ran into a butchers and shouted "get me a chopper" before grabbing a knife off the counter and then stabbing the policemen.
Now all I can hear in my head when I think of what he said in the butchers is arnie shouting "get to da chopper" in Predator. Do you think it would make the families of the police feel better if this were to be pointed out to them?
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 9:30, Reply)
.... that they see a bloke in a uniform and think "I'll fuck up that shit" when the don't realise the person wearing that uniform is a person who is someone's family, someone's friend, someone that someone relies on. Moat didn't see [name], a guy who is now blinded for life, a real actual person who will no longer see again.... he saw a police officer and did them in. I think people think it's OK to attack a uniform, because it's not like they're attacking a real person, they're attacking an organisation.
The thing is though, I'm not sure what he expected, can you imagine going into a butchers and asking for a big fuck-off sized knife and them saying "Sure thing mate, here you go..... haaay, wait a minute here, are you going to stab someone? Ok, pinky-promise and you can borrow it during lunch time but you have to give it back after.".

I have to do a literature review and write an experimental protocol at work. Hard work, but it'll hopefully impress the right people. Apart from that, very little. I might go ice skating, and I might make some cake. That's about it really.
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 9:32, Reply)
what do you mean by a literature review, is that like Richard'n'Judy's book club? And what do you mean by an experimental protical?
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 9:44, Reply)
is, erm. I don't know how else to describe it. Step-by-step instructions on how to perform a particular experiment. I know roughly what I need to do to achieve what I want, so I need to do a review of the relevant literature (ie, journals, papers etc which have done something similar) and cobble something together from them. I'll then need to do the experiment as I've written it, and tweak it until I've optimised it.

A bit like how when I create bits of code that get released to other people (where they'll use it, on a code level, rather than user level), I release a document telling people what the veriables/functions are so they can use it without having to scan/read through the whole code, and normally with a few examples.
So with the literature review you see someone who's done something similar and use that as a reference for your own documentation?
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 10:16, Reply)
I read a bunch of stuff, see what they did and how, and use that as a base.
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 10:25, Reply)
Change the font, and claim the work as your own. Nice.

Like Facebook have something called an SDK, which does all the facebook functions, this is called a 'Supper Class', you then build a 'Sub Class' which takes a copy of that SDK and then adds your specific functions to it.

Tesco are selling 24 cans of Stella for just over twelve quid, Bristol City are on the telly this afternoon and I got chatting to a lovely lady in the pub last night. Plus I've started my Christmas shopping. I'm. Currently on the sofa watching the Q music channel and I'm thinking about going out for breakfast.

Oh god, yeah', christmas shopping, I feel like such a fucking retard, I don't get paid 'till _next_ monday and I thought it would be a good idea to buy a shitload of christmas presents yesterday while I was in town and max out my card. I'm gonna up the overdraft today, it's almost as much as my take-home =(
But what I did get though, I got 3 amazing home made candles which are really pretty that you can light, BUT, even better, they're quite thin and have an almost tie-die like design, that you can put a light (or a tea-light candle, or even a couple) and it lights up the whole candle and looks really homely and pretty. It was £12 each, 2 for £24, so I said...
- "I'll buy it right now, right this minute, it's the end of the day and it's just stock you've got to pack up.... I'll take 3 for £30, you make a few quid, less to pack up, less to think about. I get three lovely presents to give to family this christmas... it's a win win" -
He then started talking about having to up the prices as they're so low already, so I said "Alright, £32 for 3, that's £10 each, a nice profit, and two quid so you can get some of that lovely mulled wine they're selling next door.... deal?"......Deal Done.
And then I went into lush and their staff are so pretty and bubbly and flirty and probably without a doubt the most helpful staff I've ever come across, she knew _every_ product in that store, knew exactly what to show me by me saying a few things I liked. I ended up spending about £50 there, but I've pretty much got stocking-fillers for everyone, plus some really really nice stuff for me too.

Later I shall go to the pub and read the paper.
I shall probably end the day wheeling my daughter out in her buggy at 11pm as I did last night to try and get her to sleep.
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 10:50, Reply)
If you've got the ingredients, it's really nice to get a thickish slice of a really crusty bread (I don't think white would work, it would fall appart to easily, something grainy, or think of something that'll make a small slice but thick and lots of crust) and slice up some grooyeah cheese on top with a sage leaf on top of that, plonk it under the grill until the cheese starts colouring and then plonk that on top of the sop to sponge it all up.... and trust on this, make loads, 'cus they'll go fast.
In fact, you know what? I really fancy some french onion soup now, really do, I'm gonna make some today, well fancy that now. how'd you do it?
Hah, you enjoying the trials and tribulations of fatherhood?

It looks like a very good idea. Have you thought about applying for lottery funding?
(, Sun 20 Nov 2011, 12:14, Reply)
but as an unqualified counsellor - I'm a listener, in fact - I don't feel hugely comfortable setting it up as a funded service until I'm more experienced and at least partially qualified. That'll come eventually, the base running costs are quite low but I'd like a little funding to allow me to promote more, broaden my range a bit and increase my access to courses and qualifications.
