I've just been enjoying a good old fashioned insult trade-off with Donkey Gums
I challenge you pea-brains to a cuss-battle.

Alt: Are there any jobs which are 'immoral'?
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:35, 109 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
I don't think any jobs are fundementally immoral
but within many roles there can be a way to act immorally.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:37, Reply)
I think I just accidentally sent the last thread to a printer somewhere in this office...

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:40, Reply)
hahaha

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
haha
reminds me of the time Fouricci printed talk.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
fuck it no one will care
and luckily it's not too bad a thread...
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
You cunt.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:39, Reply)
You are a wit black hole.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:40, Reply)
You couldn't be more wrong.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
I don't think any legal, paying job is by definition immoral.
I think there are jobs that don't fit with my own moral conmpass and there are jobs that I find hugely distasteful and that I wouldn't do.

The work I do has involved me working for charities and I declined the chance to work for Christian Aid because I find them distasteful, but I couldn't argue they were immoral, obviously.

You fucking knock-kneed bucket of arse gravy.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:40, Reply)
What about head of advertising for a cigarette brand?

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:42, Reply)
What's wrong with that?
It's your choice if you smoke
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:44, Reply)
Since it's entirely in someones power to "just say no" then you can always argue this isn't immoral.
Being a loan shark or a drug dealer is probably justifiably immoral.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:46, Reply)
they're illegal so not jobs.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:49, Reply)
How about being a bailiff?

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:13, Reply)
That's a perfectly legal job.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:15, Reply)
Isn't it quite similar to being a loan shark?

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:22, Reply)
One's legal and one isn't.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:24, Reply)
So morality is determined by law?

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:32, Reply)
Well that's one of the obvious 'immoral' jobs, isn't it?
I certainly wouldn't do it, I find it incredibly distasteful. So to me, yes, I find it morally wrong. But it's not my place to impose that on a wider audience. There's a hell of a lot that feels wrong to me, but whose to say I'm right?
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:47, Reply)
What about being a Homeopath?

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:13, Reply)
No, only sponging jobless losers are immoral

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:40, Reply)
:(
You're making immorality sound such fun
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:44, Reply)
Oh, but it is.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:48, Reply)
Manager of a paedo-film company

Just to clarify, this is my reply to the alt, although you can take it as an insult if you like.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:40, Reply)
You smell like poo.
Yes, plenty.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
i doin't like people who work in the gambling trade, as i see that as a tax on stupidity
lawyers are a bit iffy
anyone who works in anything to do with religion needs to take a good long hard look at their life
sames goes for homeopathists, 'psychics' etc
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:41, Reply)
I don't think it's immoral,
It's not like they don't pay up if you win and all the odds are right there in front of you.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:42, Reply)
mathematically everyone gets the same odds, depending on what game your playing the house will always take a certain percentage
i don't think most people really think it through, they jus think they win once in a while and keep trying
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:44, Reply)
Again, it's the punter's choice

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:45, Reply)
it is, but most gamblers aren't exactly well educated and certainly aren't mathematcians

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:46, Reply)
People are responsible for their own stupidity.
It's like when fat cunts try to blame advertising or McDonalds for their own inability to stop troughing.

It's bollocks.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:47, Reply)
true enough
but the same goes for smokers and anyone else with a self-ionflicted addiction
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:49, Reply)
Yeah, like benders

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:54, Reply)

i do not know how to ride a motorbike, so i don't
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:47, Reply)
riding a motorbike requires tests and a certain level of skill
you can go into any Coral and blow as much cash as you want on the horses
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:49, Reply)
But the point is, if you don't know what your doing it'll end in tears
and you can never "know" what your doing with gambling
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:54, Reply)
of course you can, it's simple mathematics
I put in £1 every day for a year, odds are somedays i'll win £2, maybe even ten, but at the end of the year I will be down about 20% or so, depending on what I'm gambling on
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:56, Reply)
if this is the case then gamblers are idiots and deserve everyting tey don't get

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:58, Reply)
mathematically the house will win anything from 10-35% of the time, depending on the game
gamblers are idiots, they don't seem to realize that the building there in, the huge chain of casino's, betting shops or whatever are built on the money they, or others, lose
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:02, Reply)
not 'of the time'
but 'of the amount gambled'
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:05, Reply)
same difference

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:06, Reply)
Not even close.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:07, Reply)
course it is, to win 10-30% of the money they'd have to win 10-30% of the time
or at least most of the bigger gambles and none of the smaller ones, it's easier to say 'of the time'
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:10, Reply)
Yes dear.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:53, Reply)
When walking through our shopping complex a couple of weeks ago,
instead of lusting after Monsson and karen Millen, I found myself going "oooh" at the stuff in Jaeger, Hobbs, Coast and Whistles.

I'm getting on.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:57, Reply)
Hobbs and Whistles are much better than
Monsoon and Karen Millen. I don't like Coast myself but that's because it's for thin people. Jaeger does nice coats. *May be getting on as well*

So I will just call you a cunt.
And for the alt: has anyone mentioned the arms trade? That's got to be up there with the worst of immoral professions.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:49, Reply)
It your choice to live somewhere shit where people shoot each other

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:50, Reply)

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:55, Reply)
Actually I think that's true.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:50, Reply)
Oh yeah I forgot about that.
Yeah arms traders are pricks.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:51, Reply)
they're jsut providing a service to the defence of peoples and nations
its the peoples that are the problem
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:52, Reply)
That would be fine if they were just providing it to democratic or at least accountable governments
but they're not.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 10:56, Reply)
they shouldn't have to police themselves, they're a trade and they sell to whoever they can to make money, like any trade
they can't be held responsible for the actions of their customers in the same way that arms dealers can't be held responsible for things like the dunblane massacre
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:00, Reply)
They don't just police themselves they have the UN and international treaties to govern them
They spend MILLIONS finding loopholes, deliberatly breaking laws where the punishment is less than the profit on the crime and lobbying governments to stall or stop any stricter controls.

Don't know why I'm bothering to say this, you obviously don't think the arms trade is moral.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:03, Reply)
It is a vital parrt of our economy

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:03, Reply)
That is true, doesn't make it morally right.

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:04, Reply)
So you ant to put thousands of people out of work?
that's hardly moral is it?
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:05, Reply)
So selling of weapons can never be morally acceptable in your view?
Or is it just current practice that you disagree with.
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:05, Reply)
BUT WHO'S GOING TO SELL ME MY SWORDS AND, ah, MEMORABILIA?????

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:09, Reply)

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:19, Reply)
thats what i meant, the UN and international treaties are responsible, arms dealers shouldn't be privatised
and punishments should be severe
(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:06, Reply)

(, Fri 9 Dec 2011, 11:11, Reply)

who plays by the rules though.
