Bit hungover this morning, be gentle. Has there ever been a film made of a book which did the source novel justice? That's your question for today. Go.
Alt: Lady GaGa, shag or die?

Got into work an hour late.
I quite enjoyed the film Catch 22.
Alt: Die

The film is a travesty of the book. The film does keep switching time frames, like the book, but it doesn't stand up by itself. Only if you know the book can the film be appreciated.

And I had a thing for Alan Arkin.

A quick consultation between my head and my legs returned the conclusion "fuck that" so I had an extra half hour in bed

I saw the film before reading the book, and thought the two matched up rather well.
alt: who is this Lady Gaga of whom you speak? I looked her up in Burke's and she isn't there.

Sadly work got in the way before I could post it.
Inconsiderate really.

There is this show called on the telly called "According to Jim", it is the worst show I've ever seen, ever. It makes me think Katrina wasn't an accident of nature.
I was watching the telly and tesco have an "event", which is a sale of nappies and things like that. A FUCKING EVENT.

The Stand - Not a film, but a TV mini series. I thought it was really good and although not to the book 100%, it certainly had most of it in there

Die - through a meat grinder. Slowly

Peter Sellers' last film and, I think, by far his best. If you haven't seen it, do so now.
(, Thu 19 Jan 2012, 9:28, Reply)
I thought the Geoffrey Rush movie about Sellers' life was excellent, too

Where the actor playing his father does the narration? Saw that a few years ago.

The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. All hinged on a staggeringly good performance by Rush

The Da Vinci Code managed to stick to the quality level of the book, good work Cunningham. Other good adaptations are Schindler's List, Muppet Christmas Carol and Trainspotting. According to my eldest son Eragon is the worst book to film adaptation ever but I've managed to avoid both so couldn't comment.
You're from Nottingham aren't you, Darth? My friend is arranging a stag do in May, any suggestions for good pubs/clubs/curiosities? The list doesn't stretch further than Rock City at the moment.
(, Thu 19 Jan 2012, 9:43, Reply)
Staggeringly inept film-making.
I am indeed a Nottinghamian but never spent much of my drinking history outside of Rock City! I can recommend the Pit & Pendulum - deliberately overdone Gothy theme pub, like walking into a Hammer movie - and the Pitcher & Piano, converted church, fooking MASSIVE. This is assuming they're both still there, not been back in years.
(, Thu 19 Jan 2012, 9:53, Reply)
The crowd going up for this are not the outdoors adventure types, they're going more for indulgence than endurance. All the stag do companies suggest going to Hooters, which seems a good enough reason to give the place a wide berth.
I read Postcards From The Edge by Carrie Fisher after watching the film and they bore fuck all resemblance whilst being enjoyable in their own way.
(, Thu 19 Jan 2012, 10:18, Reply)
It's unbelievably fucking tawdry, as you'd expect, and also a fair trot from Rock City and most of the best pubs.
But it does have breasts.

As an activity, I went white water rafting in the Trent. In November.

Then shag again. If you're going to cross a moral line then might as well take the opportunity to cross a few more.
(, Thu 19 Jan 2012, 9:55, Reply)
I also note with interest that most of the people voting for shag are older than me (I think).
I don't really wish death on anyone, but I do often wish for sex so shag gets my vote too.
*and the less sex I get

Ideally, I'd like to shag her when she is wearing the meat/bacon outfit.
