I decided to try the indian around the corner from me, and oh man, it's fucking good. I got
- Tandoori Mixed Grill (smaller than what I thought)
- 2x Mint Sauces (proper sized ones ! I only need 1)
- Ditto of Onion Salads
- 1 mango chutney (proper sized pot ! oh man !)
- 4x poppadoms
- 2x Pashwari naans (I thought the grill would be bigger so I got two, for breakfast tomo)
- Onion barggy (HUGE, 4 of them.

I'm going to be working all weekend now, but it's worth the brownie points. I'm pretty much the only one who can do it 'cus it's exactly where my skill-sets are.

I started to watch Game Of Throans, I thought I'd hate it but I'm actually liking it. Awake and Alchatraz and The Office are also really good.

Fancy a roll in the hay?

still not watched game of thrones
and still not read the last book despite waiting 5 years or something for it. Man, I'm a book snob
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:33, Reply)
I am a total culture snob.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:36, Reply)
yeah - but I loved the books
yet found myself reticent to read them again once they were famous. It even irritates me that I do this.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:37, Reply)
There is a midget getting a blowjob, I approve.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:48, Reply)
I have 'very little' interest in that.

that guy is cool
a proper bad guy that is somehow awesome. Also reminded me of the othodontist from when I was a kid
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:51, Reply)
I thought I couldn't get into it, 'cus I don't like LOTR or things where people are walking and talking a lot, like in a forrest or at sea.
But I watched it on the train home today, where there are no distractions, and its quite good. Now's a good time to watch it, 'cus the new one comes out soon.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:55, Reply)
I plan to reread the rest of the books first
but this means buying them since originally I borrowed all but Feast for Crows (which I got when I was working in a bookshop and skipped around the shop with it when it came in).

Anyway, I have to get over the 'why am I buying a book I've already read' thing
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:57, Reply)
I still need to read teh last three books of the Dark Tower series.
I really loved the first three. The fourth one was a bit 'meh' and I understand the last two are excellent. I really must get round to doing that soon.

The last Stephen King I really enjoyed was Cell. That was a pretty excellent zombie book.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:59, Reply)
Stephen King is on facebook?

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:00, Reply)
I am very much enjoying this new meme.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:01, Reply)
The thing is
Stephen King is like Clive Barker, only with out the imagination and less weird sex
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:00, Reply)
The only one of his I even trioed to read
was Weaveworld.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:02, Reply)
Imajika was best
and I'm afraid for once I agree with the dozer, Galilee was a bit like a mash up of his old stuff. Although the other problem with that book was the WHOLE PAGE he devoted to one character laughing at another's name which happens to be my surname
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:04, Reply)
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaahahahaahahahhaa
I once taught a boy called Peter Hiscock. Hs classmates tried to tell me his middle name was 'sucks'.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:06, Reply)
I'm going to gaz you the best student name ever
used to always make me laugh, but I'm not putting it on here
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:07, Reply)
Ah. I didn't see this post.
I wondered what that gaz was about.

I don't mind telling everyone my student's name. He was a cunt of a child. Called me a bitch and stormed out of my class.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:15, Reply)
good name, though, right?
It's a bit too individual to really post in a public forum
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:17, Reply)
It made me laugh, but I'm simple.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:19, Reply)
Imajica was indeed his best longform novel.
Hellbound Heart is his best short fiction.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:08, Reply)
I used to quite like Clive Barker when I was sixteen or so.
Very imaginative stuff. Leagues ahead of Stephen King. But his stuff from around Galilee onward hasn't been very good.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:02, Reply)
My dad had every Steven King book going before he died, I tried a few times to get into his stuff, but couldn't, but my reading age was a lot lower back when I tried.
I do like a bit of Dean Koontz though, even though I haven't read him for 6 years.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:07, Reply)
I read a Dean Koontz once.
I found it to be that terrible it was funny. And I was 15 or so.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:09, Reply)
I love Dean Koontz
but he essentially writes the plot every time.

You can guarantee any book will contain a green-eyed woman, a survivor of abuse, a dog, an orphan, or any combination of the above.

Oh, or a psychic.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:10, Reply)
the man and woman will meet under stange and potentially dangerous circumstances
which seem to have a supernatural cause. They will fall in love. They will beat the bady
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:11, Reply)
Obviously.
I tell you what else I liked - Eon and Eternity. I'd love to see them made into a film or TV series.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:13, Reply)
Greg Bear? He did Eon, right?
I don't think I thought much of it
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:15, Reply)
I found it a bit confusing in places
but the scope of it was amazing. I reckon it would make an awesome tv series.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:17, Reply)
Have you read Arthur C Clarke's Rama books?
It reminds me of those. I liked those more (even though Clarke's characters are a bit on the wooden side)
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:19, Reply)
I think the dog thing is why I liked him so much.
I stopped reading him around the time of the second Odd book.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:29, Reply)
I quite liked the Odd books.
I've got the fourth one still to read. Actually, I have a really looooong list of books to read.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:34, Reply)
I don't think I'll dig the books, too many complicated names.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:06, Reply)
You can tell how wanky a fantasy / scifi book is going to be
by teh number of apostrophes in the characters' names.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:07, Reply)
Haha, totally.
I hate the whole "I am Arrigon, Son of Kolach, Keeper of the Realm, Lord of the Council of True Eldars and Keeper of the Dragonsword" introductions.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:08, Reply)
Or by the fact that it's described as fantasy

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:09, Reply)
untrue!
Iain M Banks does a bit of crazy naming, but he does it on purpose, wallowing inthe loveliness of sci fi tropes
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:09, Reply)
Ian Banks is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:10, Reply)
nor are you

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:12, Reply)
I'm not being nasty here.
But he is an average author at best. He is great at plotting, granted, but there is a lot more to being a good author than plotting.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:14, Reply)
not nasty, but wrong
anyway, we;ve had this discussion before, and I am mostly talking about the sci fi
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:16, Reply)
His sci fi is probably worse than his proper fiction.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:19, Reply)
at least he can spell iain properly

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:12, Reply)
True.

I just bought mr b3th the box set of Game of Thrones
because he saw five minutes of it and liked it. We haven't watched any of it yet.

Is 'Awake' like that episode of Buffy where she thought she was in a mental hospital and her mum was still alive?
As for Alcatraz, I expect to like it because I'm a serious JJ Abrams fangirl (though I've never seen fringe) but after the first episode, I'm not hugely impressed.
I also taped the whole series of Grimm so far, but I haven't watched any of them either.

What kind of roll are we talking? I could go a turkey salad roll...
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 19:54, Reply)
but not with hay on it
hay is not tasty, despite what my guinea pigs might have you believe

ATP is a festival curated by bands. Previously held at Pontins in Camber Sands, now held at Butlins in Minehead.
Last year they introduced a non-residential version held at Alexandra Palace curated by Portishead. This year's is curated by Mogwai.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:18, Reply)
I heart Mogwai.
And the festival started as The Bowlie Weekender, put on by the bedwetter's favourite anorak-clad band, Bellend Sebastian.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:20, Reply)
I missed out on Bowlie
My first ATP was the Shellac curated one, which was just incredible. So many good bands.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:24, Reply)
I love Shellac.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:25, Reply)
What's not to love?

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:27, Reply)
They aren't for everyone.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:28, Reply)
True, but I meant for you.
I would have expected you to love them.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:32, Reply)
Steve Albini is one of my heroes.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:32, Reply)
They set the bar pretty high for ATP
I expected them subsequent ones to be the same. It was only later I realised that the 3x free CDs featuring all the bands playing, plus the packed line up, etc. were features that Shellac had introduced for "their" festival.
All the others I've been to have been good, but that one was the best.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:39, Reply)
I've been to to Minehead, I was the only man not wearing 3/4 length tracksuit bottoms

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:21, Reply)
If you went whilst ATP was on you would be the only man without a beard.

(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:25, Reply)
who says I don't have a beard?
But seriously, it was the worst place on earth
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:27, Reply)
Then you might blend in.
The usual plebs are not in attendance during the festival, which takes place out of season.
Sleeping in a chalet is preferable to slumming it in a tent: beds, showers, cooking facilities.
Plus there are no corporate sponsors, so you don't have to drink Carling.
The quality of bands playing is usually very high.
This festival is full of win.
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:30, Reply)
I donno, never got into Buffy, even though SMG is fit (although prefer Allison Hannigon).
Awake is about this guy who was in a car crash with his son and wife. He wakes up one day, and his son died in the accident, then the next day when he wakes up, his wife died instead. You're not quite sure if he's mental, he sees a phsyciatrist on both sides who are both trying to convince him that day is the 'real' day and the other day is the 'dream' day... but a lot of the details cross over, and you're like "Is it his subconcious telling him clues in his 'dream' day?".
(, Fri 16 Mar 2012, 20:11, Reply)
Alchatraz gets quite a bit better, but I'd say if you ain't into it after eppisode 5, then it's not gonna be worth it for you.
I got Grimm too, but ian't gotten around to watching it.
