Why not, when the end outcome is exactly the same, why not go for the cheaper optionand as Rory says, it's not actually the trial, it's him confirming that his is who they say he is and that he understands taht he's being charged with murder.

Not in terms of the law or evidence needed to convict, but in terms of sentencing.I think nearly all crime goes up a level on the scale if the motive was linked to discrimination.

It's pretty sensible to me.If you get in a few fights in pubs over a period no serious injurys etc, you might get a fine or some community service, if you go out and find gay people/black people/jewish people and punch them once in the face the crime is the same but the motive is much more sinister.
