Comedians: best and worse. Explain why.
Alt: another 'lifer' has gone on the run. Who would you like to see escape from prison?

I quite like most comedians but I can't stand any camp ones i.e. Norton

Alt: Stuart Hall, but only if he had to escape via an 'It's a knockout' assault course
Once completed, he would be captured in a big net and hauled back to the nonce wing, armed only with the bitter realisation it was all a ruse.

I like observational standup.
I liked Bill Hicks when he was alive, the new guys carrying this type of stuff on are doing a pretty good job - Steve Hughes and Jim Jeffries are two that stand out. Love Marcus Brigstocke - in fact most of the Radio 4 bunch.
Can't stand that twat Peter Kay.
Alt: Any sadistic, torturing psycho - as long as he's targeted on Peter Kay and the Conservative cabinet - and he make videos.

I love what Stewart Lee is doing but I guess it's not for everyone
I watched and rewatched the Bill Hicks live shows he did in the early 90s. I enjoyed watching Jerry Sadowitz. Tommy Cooper can just walk on stage and look blank and I'll piss myself laughing, he just has 'it'.

Miranda Hart - I'm socially awkward
That scouse one - I'm fat.

I'm sure all comedians have their particular go to gags, but those three don't seem to have any variety at all. It's like watching an impersonator try to be funny, they keep doing voices. FUCKING STOP DOING VOICES ON PANEL SHOWS BREMNER, YOU CUNT.

but woman aren't funny, period
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:04, Reply)
I make no assumptions; I have yet to see a funny female comic

(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:05, Reply)
The seat of all comedic thinking is obviously the nutsack.
Whereas in women, all the funny just falls out the growler.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:07, Reply)
To expand:
Comedy is a resource. It is heavier than air. It falls from space and lands on people, filtering down through their bodies. In men, the ballbag acts like a funny pouch, or bib. It collects the comedy and allows the man to utilise it.

Women just drop it all out their snatch, like a period.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:09, Reply)
which is why they do so many period jokes

(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:10, Reply)
This is absolutely perfect!

(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:18, Reply)
Well I've yet to encounter a genuinely funny woman, so perhaps it's just a massive coincidence?
But presumably what you're also saying is that people, let's call them 'women', who say that "men can't multi-task" are also fucking idiots?
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:08, Reply)
i would think it's safe to say that men "don't want to" multi-task
my dad is perfectly capable of listening to me, cleaning the lounge AND watching the football/golf. he just chooses not to.

It does.

(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:09, Reply)
more likely it is that the men listening to it aren't capable of understanding it
if the woman presenting said comedy doesn't look a certain way, because after all, that's all that really matters.

SCIENCE tells us you are wrong.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:22, Reply)
Actually, she might not be.
I remember seeing an Australian female comic and she actually was pretty funny. She was also pretty hot. I think she's got it right, you have to be hot to be a funny woman. Once again hotness proves itself the most important attribute in a woman.

this needed a study???
"Our findings suggest that men's view that men are funnier could be a result of their actually finding the humor they produce funnier"

there isn't a dude on the planet who doesn't find himself hilARious, even though society seldom agrees with him.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:31, Reply)
that's not science
if miranda and jo brand were a pair of six 6 blonde 17 year old twins with a predilection for threesomes with fat internet geeks, you'd all think they were HILARIOUS.

Sorry I got bored towards the end of that sentence.
Something about getting the kettle on?
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:27, Reply)
miranda is a good example
oh look, she isn't funny, because she's a woman. but........ nearly all the scripts are WRITTEN BY MEN. 80% of the writers for that show are men.

www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/miranda/details/

it's nothing more than male stereotyping. oh it's a woman, i can't laugh at that.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:33, Reply)
well, that and the fact that the miranda show isn't actually that funny

(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:35, Reply)

the show actually that
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:38, Reply)
this may or may not be true
i kind of agree with you. lots of people don't. but it's not because she's a woman, as her writing team clearly shows.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:40, Reply)
I'm not denying there are unfunny men.
I'm one of them.

But in general men are combative about comedy, and so up the stakes whenever someone else is funny, and this leads to an escalation of comedy. Women are more likely to laugh at the jokes, but are less combative, and so the level remains low.
(, Mon 19 May 2014, 12:47, Reply)
men just assume, it's a woman, she won't be funny
the dude on this page have just proven exactly that!

I like Alexander Armstrong and David Mitchell.
Because Armstrong is cleverer than most and enjoys being condescending and David Mitchell hates basically everything.

He was funny when he started off his career because he actually tried to make jokes.

Then he stopped.

Noble is a particular favourite, although I'm fully aware why others don't like him
I also like Izzard (although he's nowhere near as good as he was) and George Carlin.

I have a particular hatred for Lee Evans, he's fucking awful.
