Soundgarden
Black Stone Cherry
Nightwish
Diablo Swing Orchestra (Thanks, Resident Loon)
Metallica

I really like a couple of Diablo Swing Orchestra tunes that I've heard. is the rest of their stuff as good as Balrog Boogie?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:29, Reply)
Balrog Boogie is probably the best though. But not by much.
Edit: This one is probably the next best: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SWdrQw0e0A

I do like 'Nemo', that's quite fun. There's another one I like too, but can't think of the name right now...
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:36, Reply)
I loved watching them do that one live with Tony Kakko.
The other one that is reasonably well known is Wishmaster, from the misheard lyrics video.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:41, Reply)
It's on the Nemo EP.
EDIT: White Night Fantasy, that's the one.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:45, Reply)
I shall have to have a look.
Edit: Mmm, its ok, but I think there are much better ones.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:54, Reply)
But I am willing to be told which tracks to try!
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:00, Reply)
Over the Hills and Far Away, as stated earlier. Easily my favourite.
Anything off the Once album. Especially Dead Gardens, Planet Hell and Wish I Had an Angel.
Moondance, Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun and Away.
I personally prefer Tarja to Anette, but off the new album, Last of the Wilds is brilliant, as is the Islander. The Poet and the Pendulum is epic.
Oh, and try While Your Lips Are Still Red. Not technically Nightwish, but beautiful.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:09, Reply)
is a good track. good bit of piano at the beginning.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:47, Reply)
Jon spencer blues explosion
Eels
The Killers
Manic Street Preachers - up to 1994 only, everything after is shit
Beastie boys
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:30, Reply)
Apparently the new album, with Richies lyrics, is rather good.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:47, Reply)
I have to say I really enjoyed Everything Must Go and TIMTTMY.
Everything after THAT is shite!
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:47, Reply)
musically, not too bad, but that tosser makes them my most hated band after U2
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:51, Reply)
for "Most hated band"....
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:55, Reply)
The Holy Bible is a masterpiece.

The Manic Street Preachers suck donkey balls. Period.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:01, Reply)
I'd get belgaer to do it for me

I LOVE THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS! THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER AND I HAVE A TATTOO OF THEM!

Huge fan of Stay What You are and another few songs. Tried listening to In Reverie and Through Being Cool but never really felt drawn back to them. Which is/are your favourite album(s)?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:02, Reply)
I would say my favourite album is probably Stay What You Are, mainly because it has This Is Not An Exit on it, and thats like my favourite song of all time!! :)
In Reverie is a good album but they went a bit Beatles mad so I wouldn't really rate it. Stay What You Are and probably Sound The Alarm are good albums to give a go.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:28, Reply)

A Perfect Circle
Queens of the stone Age

Heard nothing save a song or two since Artist in the Ambulance,
which should I get first: Vheissu or Alchemy Index?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:39, Reply)
Vheissu is a great Album, but the Alchemy Index is their Magnum Opus. It truly is fantastic.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:47, Reply)
who would you liken them to?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:49, Reply)
Think: A bit punk, a bit screamo, a bit metal. Excellent songwriting and (latterly) mind-blowing musical arrangements. I really do recommend that you try the following, in order:
The Artist in the Ambulance
Vheissu
The Alchemy Index (Volumes I, II, III and IV)
EDIT: Spotify has them all, you can try before you buy! :D
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:54, Reply)
Artist...is the most radio friendly (for wont of a better phrase) but a good all round mix, whereas I prefer The Illusion of Safety. A little heavier I seem to remember.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:00, Reply)
I was listening to SOAD - This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, this morning while racing into work and a woman was staring at me like I was insane when we both stopped at a crossing. Hehe
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:38, Reply)
Absolutely blew me away. I highly recommend them if you're not already a fan.
EDIT: Just read what you said properly. What a spazz.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:44, Reply)
I knew I missed someone off my list.
I love Lack of Colour, thats a great song!
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:41, Reply)
Eels
Dogs (not a joke)
Bit of Bob Dylan, he is fucking awesome
The Raveonettes
But then that could change as well.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:58, Reply)
remove Dogs, and put Howlin' Wolf in there instead.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:01, Reply)
Metallica
Chimaira
Pantera
System Of A Down
Busted (I'm not ashamed in the slightest)
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:40, Reply)
I suppose I should mention that ever since I took my sister to see him, I've become rather into... Enrique Iglesias.
*hangs head*
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:44, Reply)
aww, it could be worse, erm... you could have thrown your pants at him!?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:46, Reply)
If you hadn't said 'nearly', that would have been a prime POIDH moment!

It was £12, and I wasn't going to pay £12 for a glorified wedgie.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 15:57, Reply)
My brother used to sell them quite well at school.
"Give me a sweet, or I'll give you a wedgie."
A fair deal, all in all. Tosser.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:06, Reply)
I do actually have a picture of one on my phone, but its on the wall of the merch stand, not on me sadly.
That sounds like quite a clever scheme. Did it work?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:11, Reply)
Can suck from time to time, haha.
They have their uses though!
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:40, Reply)
I couldn't cope with six of my sister. One is enough, thank you!
Yeah, my little sister gets more use out of me than I do of her.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:54, Reply)
But I can see it coming.
I double as a chaperone, personal stylist/hairdresser, therapist, maths tutor.. the list goes on.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:13, Reply)
Still not that bad then!
And how have you managed to get a bruise collection?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:16, Reply)
That sounds good!
*reads rest of profile*
Ooh, manchester eh? You'll have to give all us Manc b3tans a show, haha!
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 18:14, Reply)
Best band ever.
Saw them in Manchester and Paris last year.
No much is too much to see a band that able.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:11, Reply)
But I love it enough that they're in my top 5 because of that one album alone.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:52, Reply)
The Clash
The Pixies
Radiohead
The Ramones
and I can't decide the 5th between Super Furry Animals and The Replacements.

Super Ready / Fragmenté is growing on me, I'll admit.

According to my Last.fm page my most listened to (which isn't quite the same thing but I have precious little brain function to spare at the mo) are:
The National
Wilco
Andrew Bird
Belle and Sebastian
Modest Mouse
Edit: Just realised that this leaves out Half Man Half Biscuit and I could never leave them out. Cammell Laird Social Club would definitely be included in my Desert Island Discs.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:05, Reply)
Heard bits and bobs but never really explored 'em properly. Shall have a butchers on Spotify this evening.

Alice in Chains
Captain Beefheart

Have you ever heard of the band Mad Season?
Part AiC, part Pearl Jam and part Screaming Trees.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:18, Reply)
Got the Mad Season album, lovely and chilled out (and all PJ and a couple of Screaming Trees albums - love the grunge!)
Even though Layne's gone I'm really looking forward to the new AiC album. I manlove Jerry Cantrell.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:21, Reply)
You're officially the only person I know who has.
I'm more into Soundgarden though, but I love Pearl Jam.
Ooh, I shall have to check that out.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:24, Reply)
also comes highly recommended.
It kind of sits between Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell provides vocals, with Eddie Vedder chipping in on a couple of tracks.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:38, Reply)
Two of the greatest voices ever on the same songs, you just can't lose.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:41, Reply)
Their album has been on my 'to buy' list for ages. Eddie Vedder + Chris Cornell = teh sex.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:44, Reply)
You could have had it if this thread was made last week. It now resides with my 15yr old cousin who is currently undering a musical education courtesy of moi.
EDIT: I have a spare copy of AiC - Dirt going free if anyone wants?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:49, Reply)
I would snap your hand off with that offer, but if my mum caught me receiving packages from someone I met on the interwebs, she'd kill me.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:01, Reply)
They are one of the few bands that I think have got more interesting as they've gone on. I find Ten a bit pompous and overbearing but loved most of their stuff after that.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:38, Reply)
Also bloody excellent but often overlooked.
And Tad - best chubby grunger ever!
I get were you're coming from with Ten. There is no denying the quality of the writing but I think VS was much better.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:46, Reply)
Queen
Thin Lizzy (for Whiskey in the Jar)
Crash Test Dummies
Barenaked Ladies
The Polyphonic Spree
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:29, Reply)

Muse
Arcade Fire
Menomena
maybe? I find this hard :)
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:33, Reply)
The Clash
The Specials
The Stone Roses
Small Faces
The Who
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:40, Reply)
I only like Deloused by TMV. The rest is, in my opinion, over-the-top wankery.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:55, Reply)
Relationship of Command is a fucking amazing album whereas TMVs are 'only' great?
The Mars Volta are mind-bogglingly good live though. Much better than ATD-I ever were I suspect.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 16:55, Reply)
Special mentions go to QOTSA, Monster Magnet, Johnny Truant, EMB-LD and Therapy?
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:04, Reply)
I've got 'Rated R' and the 'Songs for the Deaf' - both brilliant albums, but not heard any others yet.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:10, Reply)
I think I'll invest in that.
Cheers ears.
(, Wed 10 Jun 2009, 17:17, Reply)
The Who (as Boycey could probably have predicted)
The Beach Boys / Brian Wilson (technically separate entities, but the latter did write all the best stuff for the former so...there...)
The Doors
Tom Waits (can we have solo artists?)
Quintessence (probably. It was either that or Pink Floyd. Or Hawkwind. And now I'm not sure. Aagh...)
EDIT: Hmm...Now I'm not sure whether I should have included Johnny Winter in there...let alone Ian Siegal. And there's no room for any jazz...five is not enough. I

XTC (OK, THAT'S in a particular order)
