...The Ian Brown review below, I thought I'd start a discussion on this hallowed board.
At the last Belmers intensive rehearsal evening*, Pooflake, Pooflake's bro and my good self were talking about musical 'sacred cows' I:E the artists/bands etc that it's heresy to dislike.
I came up with:-
Oasis - a barely adequate pub band with a dickhead frontman.
Elvis - never rated him.
U2 - Jeez, where do I start?
Anyone fancy a go?
* sitting noodling around on guitars and getting drunk.

I enjoy a bit of Elvis though.
The Clash - just don't do it for me

OASIS ARE THE WORST FUCKING THING EVER.
Erm...not sure who I dislike that everyone seems to like. I'm very out of touch of music at the moment. I don't really like Florence and the Machine, and everyone is hailing her as the new fucking Messiah or something. I don't like high-pitched singers.

Just discussing F&M with the Oh. She said she thinks she sounds interesting and at least makes an effort. I said she is like a budget offspring of siouxsie and dolores o'riordan (sp) with an uncontrolable voice. I'm getting old now cos there are not many new bands coming through that I can't see a previous reference for.

After all the hype of being the best live band ever, they were, to be frank, utterly utterly shocking. Liam couldnt be arsed, every time Noel sang, he would fuck off and sulk back stage. Can I also say here that Paul Maccartney is a cunt and should be assassinated.

that U2 used to be very good indeed, The Joshua Tree is a fantastic album and Achtung Baby is, if anything, even better. Personally I think Zooropa is the best album they made, but Pop wasn't bad, though it did mark the beginning of the end of their good stuff, actually Pop marked the edge of a cliff with everything released afterwards being fucking dreadful.
And their early stuff is really catchy, Under a Blood Red Sky captures the very best of their 80s stuff in a good live show.
So, U2, used to be good when they were less popular, now, total cunts.

Except about Pop. I adore Achtung baby and Zooropa was the soundtrack to more than one summer for me. Joshua tree I never really got into though.
It's a shame they had to become aware of the universe outside of their bubble and disappear up their own arses.

Jet = shit aussie band (not many, but them are the shittest. Go betweens would eat them alive, if the lead wasnt dead)
Kings of Leon = not worth the hype

Coldplay = more of a Muse girl, before anyone says "What a load of pretentious bollocks" listen to Origin of Symmetry. Pretentious bollocks yes, but pretty effin' good.
Jet = blargh. One decent song, and it's not even that good.
Kings of Leon = shit. Shitshitshit.

approached Muse for a 5 record deal, they didnt mean the same 5 albums :-)
( , Fri 25 Sep 2009, 20:18, Reply)

They got progressively worse after Origin of Symmetry.
( , Fri 25 Sep 2009, 20:32, Reply)

although, if all the songs are like plug in baby, I may just do that.
( , Fri 25 Sep 2009, 20:35, Reply)

While I'm sure they were groundbreaking at the time, now it just sounds like mediocre rock-pop-whatever.
( , Fri 25 Sep 2009, 19:06, Reply)

and I'd like to add Rage Against the Machine and The Libertines to the list.
RATM are made of boring shouty bollocks*, and I'm a fan of shouty bollocks ordinarily.
As for The Libertines? They had two or three bearable songs* and a drugged-up singer who put his bits in another drugged-up singer. The big tabloidwhore.
*IMHO
( , Fri 25 Sep 2009, 19:40, Reply)

but at the start they were one of the most exciting bands I have ever seen. Drugged up, yes, but they were all awesome showmen. Separately, cocks. Peter cant barely stand half the time (except one show at glasto where he was pretty good) John The Bassist band Yeti were appalling. Also, I wasnt aloud in the club with a hat, but he was. The only decent one seems to be the drummer, and Carlos is to pissed to care.

most definately. I will surely burn in hell, but so what. At least John and George have a head start on me.

Have written about 3 decent songs in the 20 odd years since Master of Puppets

Why do people have such a problem with anything that sells? The music industry is like most in that the cream rises to the top.
If that amazing band you like disappear without a trace after one album, it probably because they were shit or didn't have a broad enough appeal.
Just because something sells ten million copies doesn't make it crap, in fact quite the opposite. People get confused between music and art, music is made to entertain, art is made to inspire and provoke. Most people want to be entertained.
Sorry to waffle, but I despise this high and mighty attitude, the art over entertainment pretentious bollocks.......oh and I fucking love The Libertines, pure timeless melodies :-)
