Today's question: What did you forget?

but if I put too much on, it goes all over the end of my trousers for the first few days.

and my mudguards don't cover the full area they need to, meaning my back gets splattered with 'road-gunk'.

of computers. My hard drive has taken a massive dump and I can't fix it.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:21, Reply)
DO you know if it's a hard-drive failure or is something b0rked in the operating system?
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:25, Reply)
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage. it tells me to disable all anti virus stuff and to run chkdsk/f, but I can't even boot into safe mode
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:35, Reply)
As told to me by a friend, and I think a couple on here can vouch for thsi working.
Unplug hard drive and remove from computer. Place in freezer for a while (can't remember the exact time). Quickly - plug it in and put it back in, and backup asap. If it is the hard drive that's causing the problem... this should at least buy you enough time to backup important files

"Quickly - plug it in and put it back in"
Or alternatively, put the PC/Laptop in the fridge when you put the HD back in.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:51, Reply)
chkdsk is sometimes started automatically on booting up. IF you're still having trouble, you may want to boot a Windows installation from a different HD with the new one attached as a secondary or slave HD, and run chkdsk on the partition of the secondary HD That's causing the problem.

I forgot my iPhone today. It was my first day without an iPhone in ages. And it was even "New QOTW day" too, so I had to wait until I got home to see what it was this week.

That, and also losing my ability to listen to music at work.

I filled out a form and confirmed I'm in their catchment area a week ago Wednesday, all I need to do is drop in after work and before 6 and give them the form.
Have I managed to remember? No.

and I still haven't gotten round to registering in my new place. Last time I registered, it motivated by me needing to get some vaccinations for my trip to Cuba.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:34, Reply)
Went several years ago as part of a work-brigade and spent the mornings picking oranges and the afternoons being given a lecture of some aspect of Cuban society. Evenings were spent experimenting with different ratios of rum to coke in our Rum and Cokes.

If your boots are heavy enough, they can flatten the uneven bumps.

and I've previously discovered that death metal should not be listened to before work. I'm more concerned I'd stagger since I seem to walk like Bambi in them...
They look good though.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 19:50, Reply)
if you were a computer rendering - the boots would probably have greater emphasis. Or perhaps even be self-illuminating.

and a gun of some description. As long as I can find someone to do such a thing.

Not too heavy, and easily reloadable!
(Aside: most hilariously ingenious reload technique, ever)

and with luck, even add in an easter-egg or two. Perhaps the back of the coat could be a portal into another dimension.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 20:05, Reply)
so that they can discover the inter-dimensional portal at the back?
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 20:21, Reply)
I point it out to people in real life enough "isn't this coat great?" Even better with the Coat of Awesome....
However, in the rendered world, I would entice dudes into my coat as a way of despatching them to the alternate dimension of Barry Manilow.

a plan sooooooooooo cunning that if it were any more cunning, even a tiny weeny bit, it would be capable of resolving the credit-crunch. whilst asleep. on holiday. in a foreign country. after getting pissed on Grappa.

You've only got four and a bit hours to execute all this, remember.
I book on at 11.00 on Saturday for yet another trip to the fleshpots of Blackpool.

the afternoon is about as easy as it gets...

2)pizza
3)beer
4)beer
5)beer
repeat steps 3 to 5 as required.

I can't remember much of Carlisle because it was always a place to get drunk in then get the next train out.
Is Lowther Street the one that curves round opposite the station towards the old bus station?
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 21:41, Reply)
which leads to lowther street.
the lilly is the pub on the right hand side of lowther street, opposite pizza express (used to be Lloyds bank). the howard arms is at the other end of lowther street opposite what used to be the old bus staion before it became either iceland or a car park. can't really remember the old bus station cos it were demolished about 35 years ago...

Was not sure how long it would take to clear if I deposited it in my bank account, and as I was flat-hunting at the time, I needed some instant money to pay a deposit if needed. This meant I spent ages carrying round hundreds of pounds in cash.
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 20:03, Reply)
meaning it'll get paid in tomorrow meaning it'll not be cleared until the middle of next week!
which is never a good thing.
but i do have a wee bit of scrap to weigh-in so that'll make a tenner or so...

And I had a horrible day too.
I want some nice food but I feel it's a waste of money. I could just make dahl, but I want some chocolate.
God I'm a whiny cunt.
Sorry, good people!

so have chocolate, is what I say. Would be all the same if you had used the damned thing!
(, Thu 15 Oct 2009, 21:55, Reply)
Is £60 still a lot of money for students in the '00s in London? Back in the mid 90's, that was a small fortune.

I have a healthy allowance from my loans, I guess, but I've been so careful; literally thinking before I spend money on ANYTHING.
I'm just really pissed off at myself- I could have saved so much money.

Tuesday night I doubled my poker money and won about $150. I've literally just found the hand history, I'd forgotten all about it.

and I've turned it into $538. I'm verging on "making this my living" territory.
