OMG, who is terribly excited about the LAST EVER SERIES OF BIG BROTHER?
As usual I'll watch the first night and then my interest in it will wane as soon as the last lolwackimental walks in.

Alt Q: What was your school uniform like and did you look teh SEX in it? Mine was an open neck shirt, box pleat skirt - the sexiest of off of the pleats - opaque tights and sensible shoes. In sixth form we had to wear black and white, so I would either wear a mini skirt or floor length skirt, men's shirt and toe caps.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 20:59, 66 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
only big brother I ever watched was a skinamax 'after dark' version for about a minute
and we didn't have uniforms, we dressed like COMMONERS
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:14, Reply)
Absolute feeelth. No uniforms?

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:15, Reply)
that's what I said, right?
no fucking uniforms

we wore regular clothes
AMERICA THE FREE!
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:49, Reply)
A lot of schools where I grew up had no uniform.
The ones that did were the "aspirational" ones, so they'd charge a king's ransom for cheap rubbish that would rarely if ever last more than a year.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:03, Reply)
Yup, there was a dress code for us though
my mother just dressed me in Laura Ashley and let me do my English thang.

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:18, Reply)
Same here.
Except no matter how accurately it was measured, the shirt always wound up being far too tight round the neck and shoulders. And the trousers would pick up static like a Van de Graaf generator.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:30, Reply)
big brother?
hell fucking no. the only one i ever watched was the 2nd australian series when i was travelling over there and we were quite often skint.

we ended up going to the live final too, which was bizarre

alt q. green blazers and ties. not really SEX. 6th form we could wear what we liked, which was something of a relief
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:16, Reply)
My uniform was SPECIAL.
Navy blue, pinstriped, calf-length, extra baggy culottes. The stripes were maroon.
A white shirt, or a white shirt with red, blue or maroon stripes.
A red, blue or maroon jumper.
Popsocks (black, navy or dark brown).
Sensible shoes.
A sensible navy or black coat. Not too fitted.

Except on sundays. Then it was:
Culottes
popsocks
shoes
White shirt with ruffles down the front.
A shapeless petrol-blue blazer.
A necktie bearing our school crest.

Sexy is NOT the word.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:26, Reply)
I forgot to mention the tie and blazer that they introduced in 3rd year.
Oh man, we looked sexyback
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:27, Reply)
Haha, Wormulus' clone just entered the house

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:27, Reply)
pale yellow shirt
green and yellow tie, bottle green skirt (made by my dad because I was too much of a bloater to fit the normal sizes), bottle green cardigan (which my gran made)

not at all teh sex
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:28, Reply)
Big Brother is a big pile of wank
and there's absolutely nothing on tv, so instead I'm scouring the internet to see which laptop I'll buy tomorrow.
Once I've acquired said laptop I'll be working from home alot more, which means I'll probably spend every waking moment here telling you all how shit you are

EDIT as for school uniform, I started at a new secondary school after moving from germany, I was forced to be an example of the new uniform, so for the first year I wandered about in a blazer and tie while everybody else wore sweaters. Cunts

I watched BB once.
I went to an all girls school, and our uniform was an A-line navy skirt, white blouse, and the tie & jumper was navy with yellow & orange stripes.
I got to wear trousers though to hide my hideously swollen knees in 5th form.
Oh, and p.e. kit was those hideous knicker shorts.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:34, Reply)
argh! PE kit!
Green mini skirt thing with PE knickers underneath, all embroidered with our initials. As previously mentioned, I was an awkward fat geek kid - PE kit did me no favours
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:36, Reply)
We had electric blue leotards and legging for gymnastics. Fucking hideous on even the thinnest girl.

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:37, Reply)
I got lucky.
As I was a competitive trampolinist & gymnast, I was allowed to wear my club leotards which were specially made for my body size/length/weight.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:41, Reply)
I forgot we had leotards
Black slinky numbers.

My sister has a catsuit kicking around from her dancing days...
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:42, Reply)
That sounds so 80s
that it actually gives me a headache. I still maintain that navy blue 'gym knickers' with white go-faster stripes were worse. Especially since they were made entirely of this weird thick synthetic canvas type stuff. I was made to wear them for cross country because, and I quote 'perhaps the shame of having those chubby thighs on show will spur you to lose some weight'.
Ah, Mrs Gibbs. If only I could see you now... I'd still punch your fucking face in
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:44, Reply)
This was the 90s :(

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:45, Reply)
why did schools do this?
I'm sure the boys never had it so bad
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:49, Reply)
The worst bit was you could always tell
when someone had their period by the huge bulge. I started using tampons on my 2nd ever period.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:38, Reply)
PE kit was the worst
green skirt, matching knickers, terrible yellow polo with crest. Then for athletics instead of the skirt, black lycra shorts
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:39, Reply)
Oh god we had athletics knickers at our secondary school
blargh. Mingin.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:41, Reply)
ugliest things ever
didn't help I was an asthmatic at school and had to do volleyball for winter with the boys inside instead of the outdoor sports :(
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:45, Reply)
Why did we wear them? WHY?!
I mean, I understand wearing something under netball skirts, but those monstrosities?

I don't think we ever had to wear them on their own...thank the lord.

I was shit at sport. I think I scored a goal in hockey once, it shocked everyone.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:49, Reply)
We couldn't wear a skirt
with them unless we were 'on' :(
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:51, Reply)
Imagine
being 14 and having to wear a yellow polo shirt and black lycra shorts and play volleyball with the boys. Scarred me for life.

If we lost the skirt, and there were none spare you had to wear the green PE knickers by themselves. Or if they were feeling merciful you could wear your winter tracksuit bottoms
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:53, Reply)
We had them at my school. I felt bad for whoever forgot to bring theirs as they had to go through the lost property cupboard to find a huge scratchy pair to wear

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:47, Reply)
Lost property cupboard.
That place still gives me nightmares.

Not quite as bad was the labcoat bucket. You had to find one that wasn't too stained or too smelly or too big or too small. My labcoat turned an interesting shade of pink when I splashed acid on it- never knew navy blue reacted that way...

(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:38, Reply)
First ever school was own-clothes
left after 8 months, it was white shirt, blue skirt and tie with red jumper/blue cardi in the winter, pink summer dresses in the summer.
Secondary was blue and white striped shirt, pullover with crest and blue skirt. How very exciting!

I never watched Big Brother- I just found it incredibly boring.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:41, Reply)
I've never seen
any Big Brother at all. I'm watching the Launch party at the moment though to reaffirm my loathing.

School uniform: I've been to about 11 or 12 schools in my life. My worst uniform though was green blazer with crest, green skirt, white shirt, house tie, black tights and shoes. I had a purple version as well, plus all the blue uniforms you can imagine.

The plus side is no shirt ever constricts my throat, because I'm so used to wearing them
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 21:42, Reply)
There is a girl from my work currently in that crowd of 'hopefuls'
I hope she gets in so i can watch her unravel. Alternatively, if she doesn't get in, it's gonna be a long walk down the stairs back into work on Monday.

My school was 'affectionately' known as Newland School for Mums
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:08, Reply)
nope
I've been to every type of school- from private, grammar to the worst inner-city comprehensive you can imagine
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:10, Reply)
How interesting.
I racked up 8 schools in my 11 years at school.
Covered the spectrum fairly well.
Best teachers at the local comp - better than the grammar. Worst pupil behaviour at public school.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:37, Reply)
just meant
that I got to know different types of people. Private school had the best discipline, grammar school had the worst behaviour, the comprehensive had one or two fantastic teachers and mostly jobsworths
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:48, Reply)
The public (private) school certainly had the strictest enforced discipline.
But the worst inter-pupil behaviour. Homosexual rape was a certainty for the new boys, and the worst sort of bullying was endemic.
The grammar school was full of snobbery - staff and pupils. The head master flatly denied that Mick Jagger had attended the school. At that time The Stones were very bad boys indeed according to their press releases. Now I see there is a Mick Jagger Centre for the Performing Arts wing. O tempora, o mores.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:58, Reply)
That sounds terrible
nothing like that at my school, but then I've never boarded, and it was an all girls school. But I can say I've had a huge range of experiences when it comes to types of people, so it worked out in the end
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 23:11, Reply)
And I'd really like to discuss your huge range of experiences, young lady.
The public school had a very militaristic ethos, so our uniform was precisely that. Still, I did learn how to strip down small arms and handle explosives. And make my own kilt.
I can't say I met a wide range of personality types. Quirkyness was really encouraged. I lasted a little less than six terms.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 23:18, Reply)
It really wasn't as posh as it sounds
they certainly didn't enforce the skirt length rules when I was there or half the chav girls from the local estate would have been sent home on a daily basis.

Not that the 14 year old me ever complained!

i dunno, is that posh? i dunno.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:36, Reply)
I have no idea what's posh
but we had no blazers (well, you could have one, but you got beaten up for wearing it) so I assume that all those that did had a posh school
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:51, Reply)
Oh yes, sexy as a peeled carrot.
Blue blazer with school badge,
White shirt, school tie (red yellow blue and black stripes),
Grey trousers and proper leather shoes with laces. No slip ons.
Why was it sexy? Because first years had a cap and had to wear shorts.
(, Wed 9 Jun 2010, 22:59, Reply)
Up to sixth form it was cack
But then, like you Ms Letters I did the mini-skirt and big shirt thing, along with massive chunky boots or Docs. I wore a big navy reefer jacket and a sailor/duffel bag.

Watched the first couple of years of Big Brother, then could take no more.

Not a fan of BB but...
everyone should vote as the charity my brother works for (http://www.kithandkids.org.uk/) gets some of the monies from the texts & all that.

As for uniforms... I like to think that my ill fitting trousers/tie/blazer combo made me pretty fucking irresistble. I had a battle with my school about hair though. They were incredibly strict about boys not having hair longer than "collar length" whereas the girls were allowed short hair if they wished. Being a metal teen all I wanted was long hair so I battled & battled to get them to cave. I pulled the gender discrimination card & everything. They never changed the policy whilst I was there but a year or so after leaving I was informed that they had changed the uniform policy to allow boys to have long hair.
