What's your ideal day out?
Yesterday I met Becky in London and we went to the V&A - it was ace - especially the shoes, less so the sweaty Circle Line.

Alt question - I've recently been given an iPod touch, what apps are the BEST EVAR?
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 15:46, 150 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
There's an ap where you pretend it's a pint of beer
it's awesome.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 15:48, Reply)
Seen it
Entertained me for....ooh, twenty seconds.

Next.

EDIT: That was rather harsh of me. Sorry.

surfing with mates on a glorious sunny day
with very few touristy cunts in the water. Followed by bbq and spliffs on the beach.

I've not tried surfing but this sounds all of the win
I used to climb with some surfers and they kept trying to get me to have a go...and surf too.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 15:54, Reply)
hohoho
surfing is the greatest thing. I can't describe how awesome it feels.

it's hard work, but easier than it looks to pick up the basics. I suspect you'd probably take to it quite well.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:02, Reply)
I'm not so sure
I'm not a terribly strong swimmer - despite the massive shoulders. I can only do about 600m without getting bored - and even then I'm pushing it on the boredom threshold. Although that is in a pool...and I did go gorge walking a few weeks back and loved it - even the bits where we had to jump in from a great height - huge adrenaline buzz.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:09, Reply)
it's not quite the same muscles as swimming
it uses the arm muscles a bit more because you are a bit elevated from the waters surface.

the paddling is a bit of a bugger but it is interspersed with experiences of exhilaration and pleasure. well worth it.

I've never done any other activity that gives you such a full body workout either.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:14, Reply)
You've obviously never tried
Cycle-boxing!
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:17, Reply)
I really want to....

(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:23, Reply)
It's quite a rush
Road Queensbury is best for beginners, but I've moved on to Downhill Muay Thai. Not yet man enough for Dirt Trail Dirty Boxing.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:26, Reply)
I seriously reckon this sport has some mileage
we should start a club.

we can wear polo shirts and hoodies with UB* Cycle Boxing on the back

(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:37, Reply)
This could really, really work
Cycling along side by side, dukin' it out. It'll be quite tactical, do you keep a full guard, meaning you don't have a hand on the handlebar? Do you look where you're going, or at your opponent? Swinging hard would surely send them sprawling, but if you miss, you risk throwing your balance off.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:42, Reply)
I'm stifling laughter about people on bikes with boxing gloves on personally
I was envisioning it starting a bit like a joust, but then coming down to circling each other and darting in for a punch.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:45, Reply)
Jousting on bikes hurts a lot
It could work that way too though, maybe mix it up each round?
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:47, Reply)
PJM should try this
his balancing skills are not always good....
I could make £200 sending the vid to that long haired chappy from the West Country.

(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:40, Reply)
I'm looking forward to it

Rock climbing gives you pretty much a full body workout
And the biggest high ever when you realise you're NOT DEAD!
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 16:18, Reply)
I'm really really shit at heights
so I'm not into climbing.

I also have a history of injuring myself doing things like skating and such, so I stick to going fast on water. much safer.

although I have twisted my knee surfing, and almost snapped my little finger. as well as being hit in the head, hitting another guy in the face, and had to drive my gf to hospital after her board hit her in the face.

You have to get the Sickipedia app, and try out Tap Tap Revenge if you like music rhythm games.
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 15:54, Reply)
Have both
Becky is well - we had a laugh and talked about ALL OF YOU!

Oh? Did you talk about me?
I demand pandering!
Also, there's an FML app, and a TFLN (Texts from Last Night) which keep me amused, as does Worms, Settlers, Peggle, Plants vs Zombies and Word with Friends.

I've got Plants vs Zombies. Will look for the others.

No using websites to get some obscure word!
Caught the missus doing that, I was not impressed, until I beat her regardless.
And I'm going to take it that your conversation with Becky about me consisted of "That Lab's fit, I'd do 'im for sure!".

Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, then back to town for a hearty Tayyabs, couple of pints in the Griffin and then home for MD's and records.

Pick up kid from Satan, take her out on my own to lark about in the park, swings etc, meet up with my friends & their kid, go for a civilised pint and take her back home, nodding off and happy and see her to bed. This has never happened and won't do for the forseeable future.

I'm really sorry it's been like that for you - it's not right but sadly some people are cunts.

I'm very lucky, my ex is entirely useless but he's a good man and loves the kids. He only ever wants them ever other weekend but that's fine. He cocks things up all the time but he means well and he's not nasty. His parents are utter cunts but he's okay, the sooner they die the better.

Hope things improve for you sometime soon.

I don't think so.
She's just arranged a birthday picnic for our daughter, conveniently on THURSDAY when she knows I cannot get out of work. It could so easily have been Saturday, then I could have gone.

Aged two, my daughter would not be bothered about it not being on her actual birthday, surely? But having her father present might have been fun for her, as well as for me, I thought.

It's so fucking weird.
I realise I have never cared about anything so much in my life - and just when I get to finally feel such a bond, I am instantly placed in utter torment with no likelihood of respite whatsoever. It’s the most fucked combination of joy and pain imaginable. It's like one of those ancient Greek torments.

Sorry all, I am really, really fucking depressed about this today.

/emosexual
(, Thu 8 Jul 2010, 17:00, Reply)
the depression is understandable
and at least you remain eloquent about it.

it is understandably heart-wrenching. as you say you've never cared so much about something and then you get fucked about with no control over it. take solace in our colleague Bartleby's words below. He has the right of it.

It's shitty now, but as long as you can maintain whatever contact you can, it will be better in future.

Your daughter knows that you are her father.
even the not as frequent contact as you'd like, is enough that she knows that. When the she is older, you will be able to see her more. When she can tell her mum that she wants to see her dad, that will be worth it. Don't give the bitch queen any reason to be able to say negative shit about you. It's probably what she wants.

I've got 12gb of music on mine
and 1.6gb of apps. The best app I've found so far isn't a game - I'm not really keen on those, I prefer things like the .pdf readers and the books that can be read on there - it's obviously smaller than a Kindle, but it's not that bad.
I love ReadMore - it's only a timer that you add the title and page numbers of the book you're currently reading but it's brilliant to see what I've read so far this month and how far I am through my current book.
I know, this is even sadder than the bird thing I mentioned above.
Kill me now.
