Just leave it in the past
Last night I was handed a shiny little DVD of the new ATeam movie. No spoilers but the whole thing was a huge barrel of shite. I really had hoped that this might break the trend of movie crossovers and rebirths of old tv shows, remakes etc. It also made me think what other tv shows, films, video games etc would make good/bad movies.

What should never have been made into a movie?

Alt Q: What would you like made into a movie, books, old films, tv shows etc etc?

Kung Pow.
My friend Grant made me watch it in the holidays - it was dreadful.

Grant you wanker!

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:13, Reply)
that's what I said to him.

Hitchhikers should not have been made into a film.
Although the radio, book and TV series were all awesome.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:40, Reply)
I actually liked the film.

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:42, Reply)
If I had never read the book or seen the TV series I probably would have
But they changed too much.

As I said quite loudly in the cinema at the time "Where the fuck is Zaphod's second head?"
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:44, Reply)
haha fair enough,
I never read the book and hadn't seen the tv series. I just thought it was really quirky. Plus I'm a sucker for a movie with Zooey Deschanel.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:47, Reply)
are you TGB on lolcats?
your name popped up in the comments and I wasn't sure if it was you since the grammar and spelling on that site is pointedly atrocious. Or do you get your sick sexual thrills from that kind of thing?

I can't even bring myself to type the URL
so no.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:49, Reply)
that's what I figured
although the comments are written in impeccable lolspeak so you never know....

I hear Monty is a massive fan of the site
He may have stolen my name

The Simpson movie was utter shite
Should never have been made.

I would like to see part 3 of the Godfather trilogy re-made as it was awful.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:44, Reply)
Agreed on the Simpsons
I turned it off after 15 minutes. It was as if they wanted to make every second of every scene ridiculously over the top amazing. Which kind of ruins the comic delivery of the jokes..
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:49, Reply)
Spider pig was awesome

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:51, Reply)
Puh-leeeeeease
The amount of times that scene was reproduced on adverts...
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:52, Reply)
I disagree
After a couple of watches, I think it's superb
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:08, Reply)
The Catch-22 film was absolutely dreadful
I generally don't like remakes and this whole "dark" shenanigans brought on by the Batman thing is getting quite repititious...

I just wish they would do a good job of continuing the Terminator story. What I wanted in the new films was the epic future battles that featured in flashbacks during the first and second film. Instead we get fucking Christian Bale and that guy from Clash of the Titans ruining things. That new Terminator was awful.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:48, Reply)
aye it was horseshit.
I am hard pressed to think of anything that's been reimagined thats good. Apart from Batman as the last two were ace. I do also quite like Masters of the Universe with Dolph Lundgren.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:50, Reply)
I thought the remake of Oceans 11 was good
But I do shun 12 and 13 for the cash ins they are.

ooh ooh and the remake of the Fly! Jeff Goldblum FTW
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:00, Reply)
the only good thing about 12 is that Arsenal are in it.

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:04, Reply)
I'm always disappointed when books are turned into films
I had high hopes for "The Road", but it fell short of the mark. I thought "The Time Travellers Wife" was quite a good film, even if they did cut about 60% of the book (by necessity I suppose).

"Alien" and "Aliens" by Allen Dean Foster are brilliant books, as are the films.

I like Kubriks "The Shining", I actually prefer it to the book.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:50, Reply)
I don't generally like films of books
yet I must have a massive streak of optimism hidden somewhere since I still watch them in hope
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:52, Reply)
I was gutted when I went to see Eragon as a movie.
it just murdered the books.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:53, Reply)
this.
It was so crappy.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:56, Reply)
I know!
Also - I read the twilight series long before it got so cliche'd and the movies came out. The movies nearly made me burn the books.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:58, Reply)
I dunno
I thought the film was better than the book. But then I really dislike the books
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:00, Reply)
Nah I read them a couple of years ago.
loved them. then the movies came out and wrecked it all.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:01, Reply)
I would agree with you one hundred percent
but the films have introduced me to the wonder that is Nikki Reed. Apart from that the films suck balls.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:01, Reply)
so many things have been ruined
but the biggest travesty is I,Robot. Watched the first ten minutes and vowed never to watch the rest. Crying shame that.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:57, Reply)
They just took the tittle
and the idea of the 3 laws, but made a new story out of it. Nothing to do with Asimov.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:58, Reply)
exactly
and a crap story at that
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:59, Reply)
Did you know that the cast and crew of that film lined up at Isac Asimovs grave
and took turns pissing all over it?
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:59, Reply)
I didn't
But it doesn't surprise me.

Did the producers poo on it as well?
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:03, Reply)
They did, they smeared it all over his gravestone
then they all had a dance on top of his grave. I think it was "The Macarena"
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:07, Reply)
Poor guy
I wish he had woken up as a zombie and eaten their brains before they made the film.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:08, Reply)
Now THAT'S a film!
Zombie Asimov V's Hollywood

if you want a plain bad one
watch Aquanoids
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:22, Reply)
I've given up on "so bad they're good" horror films
after I sat through a film about giant killer mosquitos, and then realised that I had seen it before.

I took a long hard look at my life after that.

I didn't know there was a book?
who's it by??
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 10:59, Reply)
/cries
it was a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov. The story the film is very loosely based on was much much better
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:00, Reply)
why are you crying?
I live in a small country town in Aus - a lot of things just pass by... :(
Might see if my history teacher has a copy.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:01, Reply)
I'm just joking :)
I know where you can get an ebook of it, if you want. Very good reading

I hope you at least know Asimov
as he's the best SciFi writer ever.

Have you heard of Fundation?
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:04, Reply)
I've heard OF him, but never read anything of his.

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:05, Reply)
I see
He's really good. Well, the stories are, he, as a writer... not so much...

Fundation might be a bit too much to start, but I, Robot is a really nice collection of stories, very much worth reading.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:09, Reply)
haha
my dad gave me the Foundation series when I was seven or eight, and it was the first book to interest me in sci-fi

(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:06, Reply)
Ha! There's product placement...
...and then there's stopping the film to advertise trainers.

Probably worse than the bit in Minority Report where they stop the film to go shopping at GAP and stop to look at a Guiness advert.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:09, Reply)
What?
Are we still talking about Eragon?
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:09, Reply)
No I, Robot
and the EPIC product placement.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Should have been made differently. The beginning of the film was fine, but at about the halfway mark it becomes a mess.

The biggest travesty of all was what they did to Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds is absolutely perfect to play him, and they got the wise-crackin' nature down pat at the beginning, but then they go and make him a mute super-mutant with cyclops eye-lasers and innate teleportation?!
To those who don't know Deadpool, that'd be like if they took Aragorn in LotR and halfway through the film he becomes a 20ft tall cyborg with miniguns for legs and rides into battle on a mecha-raptor.
Yes, the fights looked cool, but it's ostensibly NOT Deadpool!
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:20, Reply)
NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine! How dare he.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 11:21, Reply)

Oooh good question!
I wish I Am Legend was never made into a big blockbuster, especially when they fucked the whole thing up. I would like to see a book by Karen Rose called Don't Tell made into a film, or a Jeffrey Deaver booked called The Blue Nowhere made into a film! :)

I am sad to hear about the A Team, this makes me cry. :(

I thought the A Team was going to be good too
