Let's have a heated debate
My sister in Law came off maternity leave with her company 3 months ago and is now going for a promotion. She has also just found out she is pregnant again and I made the assumption that she would tell her company and pull out of the promotion run as she was going to take another huge period of time off. Apparently she isn't going to tell them until she finds out if she got the promotion or not.

I don't know how I feel about this as I appreciate she wants the money etc but if she isn't going to be there to do the job is she being a sneaky cow?

Alt q: I have started shouting at the news on telly now and am turning into my dad - what characteristics have you inherited from your parents?

This sounds like a film...
But I'm not sure which one

Is it 'Anal Future 9'?

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:49, Reply)
an anal baby?

Arse
Barry got it below. Fuck, I haven't watched that series by choice in years!
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:52, Reply)
I have never watched one. It's like big brother
I have managed to get by without it being in my life.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:55, Reply)
Series 1 was actually pretty damn well written, and very funny
I never bothered to watch beyond that, but was stuck at mates house while his Mum watched it.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:57, Reply)
Bye then.

EDIT Nothing gets past me. NOTHING, DO YOU HEAR?

Alt: Massive cock*, enormous intelligence
and modesty.

*from my mum, obv.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:48, Reply)
Are you saying all members of your family are massive cocks?

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:01, Reply)
That's a storyline from Desperate Housewives
so I can relate to it. Yes she is being an arse, but she's playing the system. You can't blame anyone for doing that. It's not her fault she has the ability to do what she's doing.

And I have inherited my old man's ability of never admitting he's wrong. It utterly depresses me.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:49, Reply)
Yes you can blame people for 'playing the system'
It's called 'taking the piss'.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:54, Reply)
I think I agree with this
If there is someone else capable of doing it who is going to be there, male or female, they should get the job.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:56, Reply)
I take the piss as far as I can
If you can get away with it, and you're not doing anything wrong technically, why not?
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:04, Reply)
Morals Barry, morals. A sense of fair play.

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:05, Reply)
I distinctly lack morals
Reminds me of being in Bulgaria last year, we were billed two hundred odd Euros for the mess in our room and refused to pay. Eventually one of us did and he went "See, I have morals" and a mate replied "yeah, and we have money and are off to the pub. Bye". We won. Morals are rubbish.

EDIT - Although I'd never have the front to do what the woman in the original post is doing.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:09, Reply)
I don't mind screwing companies over or anything
but there is always some poor fucker who gets stung for it. Like in your situation I wonder if they took it out of some poor workers wages or what not? The whole thing is bollocks I just can't stand the thought of my actions being detrimental to some poor bastard who had nothing to do with it. But I suppose that's just me.

edit - why the fuck have I written poor three times?
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:13, Reply)
No that's what I'm saying
Our mate offered to pay for the damage and handed over two hundred bloody Euros. We all laughed because who won there, our mate who was now potless but had morals, or us having not paid a penny.

I'd never try and screw over an individual or small company, but if it's something I can get away with and I'm not directly affecting someone I'll get away with as much as I can.

I hate being a roman catholic they raise you to hate yourself and feel guilty!

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:21, Reply)
I'm half-Catholic and half-Protestant.
I have the Catholic guilt and the Protestant work ethic. I feel perpetually guilty if I'm not working.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:26, Reply)
I;m fairly sure I was only employed as I said
I fucking hate children and would rather gouge out my eyes with rusty bad aids spoons rather than popping out screaming portable shit machines.
Edit oh and I fucking hate that people get fucking paid to take time off work to pop out said shitting machines. I asked the MD if in 6 years I was still here if I could take 6 months off paid if I pretended I was pregnant
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:51, Reply)
Screaming portable shit machine
sounds like a harsh review for a mobile phone or MP3 player.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:54, Reply)
It's the tagline to 'Anal Future 9'

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:56, Reply)

Or was it an album by The Cult?
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:02, Reply)
haha

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:17, Reply)
Cunning plan!
Then claim it died and demand compassionate leave.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:56, Reply)
This is even better

(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:58, Reply)
I'm wondering if you could go for the trifecta -
eventually turn up back at work with a sinister doll and insist that it's your baby until you get signed off as mental.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:01, Reply)
Overcomplicated.
Being signed off as mental merely requires a slightly elevated mood and the impetus to glass random strangers in the street.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:04, Reply)
except in Glasgow
where you are considered mental if you DON'T do that
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:13, Reply)
nah, wha', this is wut I paid me taxes for, innit.
I agree though - everyone should have the opportunity to a sabbatical from work. I have no idea how this might happen other than it being good in principle.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 12:00, Reply)
The school I worked for a few years back is a specialist science college
yet their science staff turn over is massive. All 6 female science teachers went off on maternity over a two year period. One went off twice in three years. They all came back to work just before the summer holidays for a week so they would be paid for the six week break. They all play the system and the only ones that suffer are the kids.
(, Fri 30 Jul 2010, 11:57, Reply)
see its reckless and irresponsible use of a fanny!
