I went to a Renaissance Festival yesterday.
I happen to own a wool cloak (a good thing, as it was a bit chilly) and wore it with a mask of a blank male face. I also carried a staff that I found at a junk shop with deer antlers on it to which I affixed a pair of ping pong ball eyes. I thought it might be fun to see the reactions.

I had people jumping away from me. Eyes followed me as I moved. One woman actually ran from me, laughing in a very nervous way. (Of course if a child got scared I pulled off the mask and made faces at them until they laughed.) I had at least a dozen people stop me for pictures. The last one I asked to get a shot with my camera as well- here is the result, standing next to his wife.

Fuck me that was fun. Especially when I walked through the parking lot after, watching the people stuck in gridlock.

I've been watching V this morning, watched the first 3 shows in the background, there are few shows that I wanna watch that I ain't even started on.... Sons of Anar...anarki...anarci...something like that. Fringe, Dextor, True Blood, Stargate Universe, Stargate Alantis, Lost... probs loads more but that's what comes to mind.

When you move in, we'll kindda set up our own telly station and make our way through all them =)

I hardly think that going to a Renn Fest qualifies one as a loser.
I got to drink beer, eat scotch eggs, watch performers, hear a few comedians (who were pretty damned awesome, actually), and chatted with a lot of people, including a woman from the next town over from where I was born, 600 miles away. It was ace.

The costume was odds and ends that I've acquired over the years.

There is truth to this.
Much of the time I stalked about like Death, but occasionally got a bit goofy.

I also found that much of my manner when I'm in a crowd is conveyed by facial expressions. People can't see you smile back at them. I took to nodding slightly to people, which worked nicely.

One woman told me that the mask was creepy. I responded, "You are familiar with Phantom Of The Opera, aren't you? There is a reason I wear the mask."

My Dad used to tell me a story about one night he went out with a load of heads in the Met Police.
They got more and more wankered, eventually my dad drove home at some silly time. When he woke up the next day and realised he had driven home, the blood drained from his face. He checked for any scrapes, bumps or blood on his car and couldn't find any. He spent the next two months reading the papers for reports on hit'n'run stuff and was terrifide. This was in the 70s, and from that point on, he never touched a drop and drove again.

It's a dick move what you did, but you won't do it again.
