According to Rick Stein
Tail End, Leith, Edinburgh is one of the best chippies in the UK. That man knows his fish.

I would personally recommend for an Indian, the Verandah Restaurant, Haymarket.

that is indeed true
whenever I worked football at Easter Road, the whole Glasgow team would pile into this chippy before getting the bus back home. Fucking marvellous shit

Rick Stein's own chippies in Padstow are not particularly special and horribly over-priced
like everything else in Padstow.

I wouldn't trust him.

Khublai Khans is very good
Also, the place that used to be called Monster Mash, which is now Mums Comfort Food. Very good pie and mash, or haggis.

Depends on your budget
and your tastes of course, but Edinburgh has got lots of great eateries. I second The Verandah for a good curry. For Scottish cuisine, Stac Polly is pretty good (you get a glimpse of it in Project Gotham on the XBox) as are Dubh Prais and Howies. For great food at reasonable prices, Montpeliers is a good choice if you don't mind loads of students.

Mind you, what would I know? I live in Texas.
