OK, Ladies and Gents
This is perhaps as geeky as you can want on a Monday morning...
I was observing how disgustingly cluttered my desktop was, and how it needed a good clean, Also, it had been saying something about Active Desktop Recovery for something like 3 months.
Anyone normal would just tidy up and restore the desktop, oh, no... not me.
For some reason I've found it necessary to take a screen shot of the desktop and, after re-locating all those poor orphaned icons and files, load the screen shot as my desktop... meaning it has the impact of the dirty place it formerly was, but with none of the functionality.
It's all very postmodern.
Geekier still, I'm telling y'all about it, and pondering if it's more geeky yet again to have a screen shot of someone else's ugly desktop as your wallpaper... Obviously, if you're as geeky as me, you'd snap up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Then again, it's unlikely...
g'wan - Save As Background...
Here it is
edit: ooh! If peeps wanna upload their desktops, I may make nice online collection of other people's desktops... sounds like fun, no?

ahhh
I hear screenshotting the desktop then removing all the icons is a good April Fools Joke to play on the boss.

Not as good as full screening photoshop (F, and then hit tab)
into a format your disk drive picture, hacking an action so when they click it says "Insert drive into A:/ for backup)". Oh the joys.

Put that into the config.sys.
then, when ever any user types DIR to get a directory listing, it says: "File not found."

My
mouth is squeeking o_O
Surely it'd have been less lazy to spend the literally 30 secs I took converting that to jpg than to upload 3mb worth of .bmp? But I guess if that's on a college site you have bandwidth to burn :)

it's quite a common "trick"
although admittedly not generally one you do to yourself
maybe you should give yourself a blue screen of death screensaver and turn all your drawers upside down as well?
