I would suggest making it late autumn at earliest, as that's when the local hostelries start losing all the summer trade permanently, and all the prices go back to normal, and they start doing 'proper' portions of food again to attract the locals back.

i'd have to check how much it would cost me and the missus to get there..
it's dirt cheap to get to edinburgh from here, and then it's only an hour or so and £15 from there to glasgow... feasable... but depends on when it is and on a few other things. /long reply
