# gareth v laibach
gah! got bored halfway through a seminal fusion of gareth pop idol gates and slovenian revolutionaries Laibach and turned all the channels up full. clicky

Anyone reckon its worth completing? Or fancy slapping together a Flash visualisation of it? Think GG in horns and leathers riding penguins of death somewhere near valhalla...

Just read your post from earlier...glad you liked the tunes. You are now the only other person I know who has ever heard that Blackbird song. I've only heard it once myself, and couldn't stop laughing. As soon as I'm on ADSL I'll be getting that. And Midfielding....he's quality. I've seen him in his play that he does with this other guy 3 times, and they make you laugh to the point where you get scared you might piss yourself in the theatre.

# He's well avant garde...
I saw Ground Zero in 1997... pretty punishing gig. In the same series of concerts I saw Death Ambient too, which was quite astoundingly heavy duty.

The original Ground Zero line-up started off with Fred Frith, but he was replaced by Jim Plotkin (well interesting bloke). Kato Hideki played bass like a lunatic (he worked with Yoshihde too)and Ikue Mori did the extreme turntablist / electronic effects stuff.
You might like them...
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:23, archived)
# ive got some ground zero coming down
as we speak :)
*edit* - do you know any other artists who might be interesting ?
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:26, archived)
# I saw them in a tiny theatre,
converted from a medieval tollbooth, and supposedly haunted. They turned off all the lights and played relentlessly for 45 minutes solid. Everyone was practically in shock by the time the lights came on...
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:29, archived)
# well ive not got the ground zero stuff through yet
but if its anything like the solo stuff i can imagine its a good way of erasing peoples minds or shattering their souls either way it must have been an intense 45 minutes
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:34, archived)
# few ideas...
Try anything by Jim Plotkin (sometimes "James"), since I mentioned him. HHe's done stuff with Scorn and the Young Gods, loads of his own stuff, and even a Black Sabbath tribute album! (he did start off in thrash metal)

I assume you know John Zorn / Naked City?

GOd... there's loads of good weird shit out there... what kind of direction are you heading in?

(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:42, archived)
# im not really heading in any direction
and i dont know any of these artists at all
i was just reading the bbc website regarding a gig called turntable hell, it sounded interesting so i went on a search for some of the artists, i could only find Otomo and Janek Schaefer in audiogalaxy so ive just been grabbing random tracks

i like the eerie soundscape type things
but im also a bit partial (although its hardly avant garde) to aphex twin's more difficult tracks, and squarepusher. but im not really into electronic music that much really.
I prefer jazzy weirdness - frank zappa on one of his odd days really - weasles ripped my flesh is a fantastic album. Very strange jazz but it did have a rhytem and what you could call a tune (lots of odd key signatures though, and it jumped around a lot).
so i guess i like stuff that has a bit of a tune or rhythm thats got real instruments.

actually, what i like is stuff that sounds good and interests me, and that can change from minute to minute :)
(ie im listening to Otomo at the moment, but ive also got abba and the pizzicato 5 in the playlist)
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 19:49, archived)
# LOL just got some ground zero through on audiogalaxy
i thought "this is gonna be interesting"
it starts up... a beat.. i thought "mmm ok"
then.... a rapper starts up
i thought "what the fuck????"
a quick search on allmusic later and there are 2 ground zero's :)
