Its shirley time for another bash? And this time NOT IN THE FUCKING SALISBURY. Hooray!
How about a night out in the Northern Quarter? Lots of lovely bars that will suit a wide variety of people in a small area. I suggest we start in TV21, which is quite easy to find, and then go on from there. But I'm open to offers if you want to go somewhere else.
Seeing as we're in that part of town, how about a trip to either the Frog and Bucket for comedy and a late night dance, or Night and Day to see some dodgy bands? Just an idea!
WE ARE NOW DOING THIS:

Are you ACTUALLY going to turn up this time? ;)

At least when I am unable to turn up it's not because I'm sicking up the booze from the night before ;)

Usual story - I'll be working just down the road till half 5 or so, and I can't be arsed to go back to S. Manchester and back in to town, so I'll shoot me bolt early on and then go back and collapse drooling on my settee...
( , Mon 7 Sep 2009, 9:34, Reply)
I haven't been out in Manchester for yonks.
Yonks being the last time I met up with you.
( , Mon 7 Sep 2009, 12:45, Reply)
I need to be up for the 8th, so I'll see how my Fridays are and might pop up...

Reading week is that next week :D
And also whether I WANT to leave Lovely London.
( , Fri 11 Sep 2009, 18:08, Reply)
but I'll see if I can get someone to put me up because I'd love to get to this one. If I'm employed at the time I might even be able to spring for something fancy like a room for the night!
( , Sun 13 Sep 2009, 19:20, Reply)
...but isn't this date going to be seeing some fairly heavy belated bonfire night action that might kill the numbers a bit? Just a thought - would love to come and will if I'm not throwing fireworks at old biddies.

If people want to go to the Frog and Bucket we'll have to book, and I'm buggered if I'm going to pay for everyone and then you don't turn up. The acts on Friday 6th November are MC Tony Burgess, Justin Moorhouse (love him!) , Ruff Daddy and JoJo Smith. Tickets are between £7 and £14.
Can you let me know what you want to do? I'd love to go there, its one of my favourite nights out in Manchester. But if its going to be too complicated, Night and Day would be my second choice-you don't need to book- or just going to the pub and getting pissed would do instead
What do you want to do?

It's the ex drummer of the Fall, but half of Manchester have been in them...
( , Thu 8 Oct 2009, 17:16, Reply)
when you're trying to organise a disparate group of people who don't usually see each other. shame, 'cos i like a bit of stand-up
i wasn't too taken with the band (thanks for the link, bp) - a bit wishy-washy and the singer's voice kept putting me in mind of peter gabriel. so i voted for get pissed. but i'll go along to the night and day if people are going for that
( , Thu 8 Oct 2009, 19:31, Reply)
For 'Just get pissed'
I've been informed that it could be difficult for all of us to get into one place in a big group, is that true?
( , Fri 9 Oct 2009, 10:10, Reply)
because we were in a group of 10. despite it being the middle of the day, us all being sober/quite geeky-looking and including 1 pregnant woman, 1 man in his sixties and 2 people who don't drink at all. the barman seemed to think he "couldn't serve groups of more than 5. it's health and safety" and ignored protestations of "wtf? that doesn't make any sense"
i suspect better places will be a little less cunty though
( , Fri 9 Oct 2009, 17:48, Reply)
(yes fnar fnar fnar, now shut up)
but bear in mind I'm a skint student, so will not be able to pay extortionate prices.
Places where we can hear each other speak will be good. Other than that, I'm not too fussy.

Meh. 4 years getting pissed on the taxpayers back, before you get a job entirely unrelated to your course. Such as asking if fries are required with that order.

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel/hostel in the general area?
( , Sun 11 Oct 2009, 12:48, Reply)
Sacha's is in the Northern Quarter and its got an offer on that night- the room is £45 for a single or £49 for a twin, put down from £135, so that can't be bad!

DO NOT use their downstairs bar, "Fridays."
It has to be the worst shithole I've ever been in, believe me, I've been in some holes in my time. Absolute chav central, think of a Yate's Wine Lodge without the delightful client base. More than one ear, they think you're a snob.
The hotel's ok though.

Enzyme is the tall thin guy with curly long hair who looks like he should be on University Challenge and HAS actually been on University challenge.
Agnostic is a bloke in a dress.
I'm the old bint trying to look young and hip and probably dressed in black.
Bearpookie is not quite as old as me but has more grey hair.
Toria is blonde and looks like a bear.
Aberacion is Spanish, has short dark hair and will probably be holding maracas.
Spikeypickle has a skinhead and will be holding Agnostics hand.
There'll be the token ginger bloke.
The rest I don't know.
Hope that helps.

Meet from 7.30pm in
The Crown And Anchor on Port Street. Its a nice pubby type pub on the edge of the Northern Quarter
here , with nice beer for the old fellas, and which is also very convenient for the Hatters hostel if anyone wants to buy some crack.
Then from 10-10:30 onwards we can venture to
TV21 which is
here , and notable for having a full size Alien and Predator in the front windows to keep the nerds happy. Its a bit louder and one of my favourite bars.
I learnt how to do this in HTML especially for this post so you'd better like it!

What time you going to be getting there?
( , Mon 2 Nov 2009, 19:09, Reply)
I think I get into Stockport at about 12 in the morning/afternoon, so I'll bum around at home and probably wait for my mum to get home from school and have tea with her. I'll aim for about 7.30, but knowing me, it may be earlier.
I'll be getting the train in, too, so if anyone wants to meet at around 7.20 and go down together, give me a gaz.
