In his defence
In 1948 the Jews had just been through hell. And before the ovens, we'd been stringing them up in the streets. For a thousand years. Safety is a foreign concept to Jews. But despite their tiny numbers (which we sporadically cull), they've contributed more to human civilisation than, say, Asia. And given that the leaders the Palestinians voted for would burn the entire fucking West if they could, I find it very fucking easy to pick a side.

They do bad things in pursuit of a safety they've never known. And given their background, it's amazing they're not a whole lot fucking worse.
