A driver who veered into the wrong lane at 70mph before colliding head-on with a motorcyclist has been jailed for 16 months.

What gets me is the amount of time he's on the wrong side of the road in a straight line, apparently making no attempt to go one way or the other. I've not been in many situations where I've needed to make snap decisions to avoid a collision but I hope I'd do something in this case.

Footage "was released to remind bikers about wearing the correct safety gear."
How about releasing it to remind people not to drive like cunts?

Other people are still going to be cunts no matter how much you tell them not to, so why not remind people there are steps they can take to improve their chances if they meet one?

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, but how is it it's considered okay to say "you need to protect yourself against fucking wankers who refuse to dive responsibly" instead of "stop driving like a fucking wanker who is a fucking wanker driving like a fucking wanker, you fucking wanker."?
Not if sure that comes across as unbiased.

Because you're talking about asking people who can't even take responsibility for their own lives to take responsibility for yours.
People aren't perfect, and by protecting yourself against the real cunts out there, you're also better placed if you meet someone who isn't behaving like a complete bellend, but just makes a genuine mistake.

By all means get the message out to be careful of the pricks. And I don't blame the coppers really, several of whom are bikers themselves.
But imagine this was a car meeting a car head on, would the message be "footage released to remind people to wear a seat-belt"? Nope.

the campaign that happened when seatbelts were being promoted/made compulsory?
That was almost literally what they did and that was almost word for word what they said. At the time there were no video cameras though so they showed the car after the crash. I remember the video of the person in the back seat turning into an elephant and killing their mum who was driving.
Crashes almost always involve a guilty party and an innocent one. If you are the one getting driven into, try to have the best chance you can of surviving an interaction with an utter cunt.

Drivers are the ones with half a ton of metal and power assisted breaks.

Pedal power confers moral authority perhaps?

..it's just that those people who are driving something with the potential to cause great harm to others should perhaps act responsibly.
In the same way I don't say we should all wear body armour to protect ourselves from the people who use weapons improperly, I don't think that pedestrians and cyclists and motorcyclists should do the same vs. the drivers who use their cars irresponsibly.

cars up to 0.8L/50cc so he can still get to work without trying to rally drive.

Riding a motorcycle is like Russian Roulette - it's only a matter of time before you get hit.

Down like house of cards! Then it's pick up sticks - but thems the odds. Can't say fairer than that.

for anybody who is caught using a phone while driving would make everyone safer.

Not have an accident, not fall off, but "be hit", normally by a sodding driver who's not paying attention. And somehow we treat this as an issue for the biker?
Nope.
