syfy
seriously, what the fuck? i've no problem with sci-fi, it's perfectly acceptable and at least recognisable as an abbreviation, but syfy? the words science and fiction do not contain a single y between them, so why the hell has the sci-fi channel decided to change its name to syfy?

If you're gonna use the abomination that is 'sci-fi'
you might as well fuck it up further.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 0:27, closed)
when not talking about the channel
i will say science fiction.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 0:32, closed)
Fucked up?
Syfy reminds me of syphilis.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 1:40, closed)
yup
i will now be unable to watch anything on scfi (i am sticking with the old spelling) without thinking about bellend rot.

Thanks for that.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 8:40, closed)
That is exactly what my eldest said.

(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:40, closed)
hahahaha!
that seems appropriate, as some of the shows on there are about as appealing as a case of festering vaginal pustules
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:47, closed)
their reasoning
was that "Sci-Fi" immediately turns people off and limits their appeal as a channel, bearing in mind they're hardly exclusively sci-fi any more. Syfy lacks the nerd association and so more people will tune in to what is generally excellent programming.

I have no idea if it worked.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 0:30, closed)
i doubt it
if they could stop the picture freezing every time you're watching something, that might encorage people to watch more.
then again, i just watched the new series of V, which turned out to be quite good.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 0:33, closed)

Dont watch tv, so I havent seen it - but if I saw anything referred to as syfy I'd assume it was welsh, and thus wouldn't watch it anyway
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 2:21, closed)
Ooo look at me
I don't watch TV
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 2:47, closed)

Something wrong with not watching tv?
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 8:04, closed)
Fucking weirdo.

(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 8:37, closed)

Yep, and proud of it
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 9:04, closed)
it's a bit odd to weigh in on a discussion about something on tv
when your first comment is that you don't watch any
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 9:14, closed)

The discussion was about the word "syfy" - I commented on that. I dont understand the problem with my not watching tv.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 9:52, closed)
no problem with it
but if as you say you are just commenting on the word syfy, whether or not you watch tv is irrelevant, and an odd thing to open with. hence the comments.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 10:23, closed)

Relevant only to indicate that I haven't seen the syfy thing on tv.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 10:24, closed)
you're thinking of an eisteddfod

(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:47, closed)

I always pronounce it to rhyme with "Fifi"
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 4:18, closed)
Because they can trademark Syfy
Which they couldn't do with the generic term "sci-fi".
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 5:40, closed)
this at least makes some kind of sense

(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:48, closed)
V
wasn't as bad i thought last night, i might continue watching it on the aforementioned channel.
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 9:25, closed)
it was okay
and i'm glad they've kept the appearance of the lizard skin as close to the original design as possible
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:48, closed)
Was it because
thick people were calling it Skiffy?
(, Wed 14 Apr 2010, 11:40, closed)
i don't know
and i sincerely hope not, but you've made me giggle anyway!
