This is a question Obscure Memorabilia

At home my other half has a broken piece of a piano. Just a single hammer from a broken piano. And yet this twisted bit of wood and metal is a piece from the piano that they flung in the TV series Northern Exposure. We've also got some gardening tools from the first series of Big Brother.

What wierd stuff do you own that has a history?

Celebrity rubbish...
I have:

- a program from the Dr Who "Ultimate Adventure" stage play from the 1980s, signed by Colin Baker. It's the only autograph I've ever bought on eBay, since I really like Colin Baker and doubt I'll have the opportunity to legitimately get his autograph, what with living in the US and all. Plus it came with a TARDIS key and some jellybabies.

- a plastic payphone instruction card signed by wrestler King Kong Bundy. The fat bastard showed up at an old job, and for lack of anything better to have signed I stole it out of the nearby payphone.

- A signed photo of the lady that reads the lottery numbers off of ping pong balls on New York local tv.

cod father
as a kid I was visiting my gran in Woodford in London and went round the shops with her buying stuff for lunch

Behind the counter in the Butchers was none other than George Vella, otherwise known as the CodFather -he did the fishing forcasts in the early days of TV-AM, clearly a major TV celeb, he obviously had no financial obligation to give up his day job in the butchers (I guess he'd be finished by 9am, so theres was no need to anyway)

Later I told my gran who he was, but she didn't really get the drift.

A few weeks later I get a leter from her containing a signed TV-AM post card of George the Codfather and a scrawly note from Gran

" You were right, the Codfather is my butcher, her remebers you, he thought you were looking at him funny"

Find it every time I move house

Not really that obscure unfortunatly
Im quite a big fan of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and finally saw them in Edinburgh this year (third attempt to go and see them). Manageed to grab the lead singers microphone when he threw it into the crowd, quick snatch and in the pocket. Noone saw so there was around 100 people beside me hunting for it including the security :).

My friend has a bag signed by the singer Richard Thompson

Finders Keepers
As a young thing I appeared as a contestant on Finders Keepers. Unfortunately, we were rubbish and lost to a team from Glasgow, but did win a 'goodie bag' - a Finders Keepers rucksack stuffed with all sorts of wonderful memorabilia, including a pair of Finders Keepers pyjamas signed by Neil Buchanan and Jet from Gladiators.

Er...
The nearside 'ear' air intake (only on later models, little teardrop-shaped air intakes either side of the roof at the top-rear of the car) from a Ford rs200 that was wrecked rather impressively during the RAC rally (1986 I think)...A clip of which was included on the smash-hit VHS cassette 'Car Wars 3'. If you view it frame-by-frame you can see my dad in a grey and red coat just before it cuts to another shot.

Rather drawn out, I know...

history
I have a piece of barbed wire that came from the Austro-Hungarian section of the Iron Curtain, given to me by a very happy Hungarian, and a small piece of concrete from the Berlin Wall, given to me by an even happier East German.

Not being one to fall for advertising gimmicks
I own the following:

- Three Star Wars Tazos albums (all complete)

- Two Tango dolls (as in the drink, not the dance)

- The League Of Gentlemen Scrap Book (by all three actors and the other writer)

- A Weyland-Yutani t-shirt that looks like employee apparel

- Two bottles of Kylie water

- A signed photo of Chesney Hawke

I have...
...a signed photograph circa 1987 of me and the near legendary Brian Hooper of 'Superstars'(the first time round when they had proper sporting celebrities on it).

Terry Waite(ex-arab-hostage chappie) lives round my way and he nearly ran me off of a country road in his big 4WD tosswagon.

My car still has the scratches where I had to swerve into the bushes at the side of the road.

Kevin Keegan
In around 1996ish I was on a train coming home from London KX to Darlington, listening to something on my Walkman. The ticket inspector came round, and as he clipped my ticket, he asked if the walkman had a radio. I said it did, and he told me that Kevin Keegan was in 1st class, and wondered if anyone had a radio so he could hear some footie result (it was England v Italy I think). I was all, yeah, right... until I humoured him and walked back up to 1st class.. There was Kevin Keegan, my childhood hero, sitting with Gary Speed (whoever). My GOD! I remember saying "i have a radio would you like to borrow my radio" like a gibbering nutter, and he was really nice and polite, a lovely bloke. Anyhoo, the headphones were the in-ear type, and when I went back to get my walkman, and after he'd signed a seat ticket thingy for me, and after I realised what a short-arse he is, I also realised that I had some of his earwax stuck to my headphones.

Yes. I own some of Kevin Keegan's earwax.

Silver cup
Eh-up,
I have my mother's mother's father's father's solid silver cup from the Royal Military Academy (Americans - think West Point), dated 1884. He was Quartermaster Sargeant Harrhy, later Captain, and it was the result of being, quite possibly, the best shot in the army at the time.

Oh, he was in the same regiment that was at the Battle of Rourke's Drift - as in the film Zulu. He would have known the survivors.

Uk up and coming rapper (a proper one not one of these chavvy dizzee rascal oiks) Lewis Parker was supporting Uk Rap star Jehst at the Jazz Cafe in camden back in July this year and to promote his new single he had brought a vinyl copy with him and was waving it about on stage. being a bit worse for wear and thinking it'd be pretty cool during a song that he wasnt featured on when he came near the side of the stage i was i grabbed the said vinyl from his hands and before he could protest i stuck a £20 note in his hand. he shook my hand and later on in the set even told me to try and get upstairs after the show and he'd give me my change :) in the end i couldnt get up there because the bouncer wouldnt let me. but its a cool kinda story

It has to be a toss up
in the crap memorabilia between two particularly shite things.
Firstly I have a copy of the Pokemon:Mewtwo Strikes Back comic part one which is signed by the voice actors of Ash,Brock and Misty. That's pretty lame I know.
Secondly I have a tic tac that was spat out of Rik Mayall's mouth during a Bottom live show (lost teeth=tic tacs) It's on the side somewhere. That's much better because partially salivated on mints rule, especially tic tacs. That and I can get the DNA from it and make a new Rik Mayall. Plus if I ever accidentally eat it it'll be ok,cause it's only 2 calories.

Er, I have pictures at mum's house
of a 13 year old Alicia Silverstone in a bikini. We used to go to holiday camp together, and are still in touch to this day - we live about 40 miles from each other now.
I also have pictures of her 21st birthday with Stephen Dorff and Jennifer Rubin.
Oh, and a picture of her 25th birthday with Juliette Lewis petting a pig.
And no, they're not for public viewing or for sale out of respect to my friend!

Edit: Woo! We just got a patio table delivered from her too as our wedding pressie

One personal, one historical
I have a handwritten passenger ticket on a flight on Piedmont Airlines (a regional US airline) in July of 1981. Not a boarding pass, the actual ticket (it was never used). I'm going to see how long I can keep it.

I also have several medals and the corporal's insignia from wife's late grandfather when he served in the Japanese Imperial Army in 1940, in China. Unlike Germany, which bans such artifacts, we're still allowed to keep them, although many people sell them to collectors.

Wet Wet Wet Lager
Little bro used to do their press. The Wet's management comissioned serveral thousand cans of 'Wet Beer' to be sold through Tescos. At the last minute it was decided that, as the average fan was (at that time) too young to drink, the whole lot should be dumped. My xmas pressie that year was a can of the dreadful grog. Pictures:

Went out of date April 98 - I have held onto it for far too long. I have a Xmas card from Ozzie somewhere too. Oh and another one from Let Loose. Hmmm.

Tons of crap!
I save almost everything, but don't collect much. Although I have an extensive collection of hockey cards and memrobilia.

The prize in the house, though, is a Ramones posters I tore off a wall in Rome a few years back. It's huge! It's in Spanish! It's in great shape!
After I had it safely put away and started walking, I realized I had to get another for my friend.

the freak.

I do
have one thing of worth i guess...a handwritten elliott smith set list from a gig about 6 years ago
(, Sat 6 Nov 2004, 0:41, Reply)
I also have...
one of paz Lenchantin's bass plecs from their first Manchester (UK) gig in which I (to my mind, and my mind only) upstaged maynard's, maynard's wine gums joke, by shouting something about "curly wurlys" (the comedy chocolate).

Oh, aswell as TEN bits of the berlin wall I had coated in gold an encrusted with diamonds and signed by keith chegwin.

Hadn't thought of it as memorabilia but Pete Tong related...
I have a photo of a much younger and slightly spotty Pete Tong. A very nice bloke with an appalling taste in shirts. Also some cassettes of him DJing. (I wrote for a black music fanzine). This was back when he used to get bottom billing with his tag team DJ partner Mick Clark.

I emigrated years ago and only found out Tongy had hit the big time when the Ministry Of Sound culture got internationally big.

I am a Microsoft Technical Beta Tester (sad, I know)
As a result, I have all sorts of weird stuff dating back to about 1998, including the Windows XP Service Pack 2 commemorative edition (which is just a normal SP2 disc with a "thank you" printed on the cover); Technical Beta Special Edition CDs of Windows 98, 98SE and Me; Windows Millennium Post-It notes (before Microsoft realised the name was too naff, initialled it and rushed it to the shelves) and a Windows 98 polo shirt. Plus random Corel T-shirts.

I also own a massive hoarding poster from last year's Edinburgh International Film Festival, which is surprisingly effective, and the very first (signed) demo CD by some schoolfriends of mine who now support bands like Biffy Clyro. And a lovely fast-food style carrier bag I got when I bought the last Radiohead album.

Of course, nothing I own can beat Safetyfox's Cunard ad.
