Being a real-life grammar nazi is hard
I've been having arguments over the last couple of days regarding the use of the word "action". Yes, I know, old ground. Those who are now in the "action is a verb" camp are utterly unwilling to acknowledge that they are clearly wrong, citing such laudable sources as "dictionary.com" to prop up their clearly unwinnable case. I know of only one form where it's appropriate to use the word as a verb and that is when you launch a legal action.

I've made a water-tight argument based on actual fact rather than simply shouting louder and louder about something I want to be true and all that's happened is that the incorrect parties are sitting in a self-satisfied cloud of smugness, oblivious to their stupidity, whilst I am apoplectic with rage at having been compared to David Mitchell after my possibly ill-judged rant about online dictionaries.

How have you made yourself look slightly foolish despite being in the right?

A promotion opportunity has come up at work.
there are 9 technicians and there is an opportunity for one of us to become the line manager for the rest. My boss has sent an email out asking if we have any questions. I really want this job but am not sure that I come across as the leadership type to the bosses. I am very confident that I can do the job I just want to convince the powers that be. What questions should I be asking my boss that make him think "Ooo this could be the guy we are looking for" Any advice from people who have gone for promotions?

many people this week have bemoaned 'payday loan' 'instant cash' companies. we all know they're just loan sharks hiding their fins behind pinstripe and marketing, but can somebody please confirm whether my maths is right here? i honestly can't believe i'm right.

if a loan of 100 quid is taken on monday at 2356% (pretty average apr from these guys), by tuesday morning one owes just shy of 650 quid, and by the following monday a couple of ton under 5 grand.

am i right or wrong? because if i'm right... how in the name of christ can that be legal?

My friend just came in cringing
Her sister is one of the Cameron Girls, she confirms they are both taking the piss. She's been on the phone to the New York times for over an hour, they tracked her down at work as they believe that they are influencing the election as their video has been viewed more times than Camerons own vids. She isn't very happy about it apparently, all the attention is really upsetting her because people think they are serious. I think its great. Whether people think it serious or people realise its a piss take the end result is the same.
