Alright?
What's the lowdown from the B3ta crew? Any more Honda Accord driving, kitten molesting or MD ingesting?
Alt Q- Is a cat the opposite of a dog, and, if so, is a wolf therefore the opposite of a lion, and which would win in a fight?

also it depends, if a wolf fights alone, then the lion will win, cos it's stronger.

But if they fought in a wood, or on a snowy peak
Then the lion would be at an environmental disadvantage.

yeah but at the same time, if they fight in the desert where it's hot and dry, then the wolf will be disadvantaged.

Who molested a kitten?
apparently Maxi molested a bowl of cheerios or something, I have to admit I looked at the picture for a whole fraction of a second before slamming my eyes shut in anguish and clicking the red x.
Alt q: no. And a lion would clearly eat the wolf - it's about twice the size. They're quite cowardly though apparently so if there were a few wolves it probably wouldn't bother, it'd just slink off in that 'I'm too important for this' way that cats have.

With all the hassle about fees over here
especially international fees, you'd be best off finishing your degree in Aus. Really. You could always try for a placement year over here but you'd probably have to do it for free - and it also depends what field you want to go in to.

Did I link you to the IBMS?
you can work as a lab tech with your degree - but it'd be a total waste, and also you only get paid about £14k. If you're serious about working over here as an NHS biomedical scientist, I would contact the lab manager at the hospital you want to work at and see if they'll let you complete your portfolio. It takes about a year full time, and I highly doubt they'd be able to pay you, but it means that when you finish your degree you'll be qualified and thus much more employable if you did choose to move over here.

it's do-able, but you'd never be able to get a mortgage on your own and probably not with anyone else who was on roughly the same wage. It's also a pathetic graduate wage and you wouldn't be fulfilling your potential, I've done it myself and it's largely admin :)

My sister lived in Australia for 5 years
(having been out on a 6 month tourist visa), she hating coming back.
Granted, she got deported and she had a nice life out there, but that aside, all the little things that people normally brush off were amplified in her mind as she was missing her old/more recent life.
When do you go away to Uni? If you can remain sane until then you can use your desire to get back over here to motivate yourself into achieving it.
I'm glad you enjoyed your UK break though, obviously you said the snow and the people you were with were highlights, what else do you look back on fondly?

I go to uni in three weeks.
I was planning on tutoring and babysitting while at uni. And maybe working casually at the local superstore.
I really loved the countryside, and the history - your buildings are so old and often there's great stories behind them. It's a beautiful place to live. Plus I met someone and grew quite attached to them, so I'm really missing them at the moment.

Well it sounds like you'll need no motivation to get where you want and need to be.
I'm guessing there are still a load of buildings and shit you never found time to see.
Bath is a lovely part of the world, so pencil that in when you come back!
I remember when my sister lived in Australia, it was 'pre Internet' so it was weekly air-mail letters and monthly phone calls lasting a couple of minutes. At least these days, with things like Skype, things are a little easier, even if they aren't perfect.

My sympathies on the shoe front. Both my pairs of shoes now have a hole in them you can actually see through.
At least yours have suffered an unholy fate.
On the jetlag front, I know a professor who used to work 7am-4pm each day, which presumably entailed getting up some time between 5 and 6am. She's now head of our department, so clearly good things can come of an esoteric routine. Though you might do better to just fight off the jetlag. I'm told that having a day or two where you force yourself to stay awake until 10 or 11pm will just about force your circadian cycle back into shape. Admittedly you'll have to force yourself to stay awake for an extra 6 hours, but you know, it's not like you have to navigate a frozen Belgian city in that state of mind.

It depends on the meat.
If when browning the meat it looks a bit fatty and therefore the sauce is going to be fatty I will, otherwise, I'll add the rest of the ingrediants earlier and just let it simmer away.

I did that last week, it's great.
Mine was an odd one though, I didn't use kidney beans in it. You can though, entirely customisable
I used 3 rashers of bacon, 8 slices of fresh chorizo, 2 large carrots, a courgette, 600g of mince, 2 tins tomatoes, 1 tin sweetcorn, 2 red peppers, 2 medium onions, pack of chestnut mushrooms, then I cheated and used spice mixes, black pepper, salt, lazy chilli (or a scotch bonnet, deseeded) and lea & perrins.

You're missing 3 things that could massively improve your chilli from that recipe though, chestnut mushrooms, bacon and chorizo.
Especially when you fry the onions and mushrooms in the oil from the fried chorizo, phwoar!

Mushrooms in chilli?
you're just weird. Chorizo fair enough, not sure about bacon though. And definitely not mushrooms.
(
berk, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 22:42,

Until 2 weeks ago, I didn't like mushrooms.
Start by cutting the bacon & chorizo up into small, rough pieces, scissors are best. Fry the bacon on low, before adding the chorizo. About 20 seconds later, add a small glug of vegetable/olive oil, and cook slowly. The oil will turn an orangey red.
After about 5-8 minutes, the bacon and chorizo will be cooked, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon, taking no oil. Then, throw in your chopped mushrooms, and toss the pan so they're well coated in oil. 2 minutes later, add the onion, and cook them on low, so the oil is all soaked up.
Makes the mushrooms fantastic, and the sauce takes a nice bit of spice it wouldn't usually get.

There's a Manc pub near me, where Liverpool shirts get you the dirtiest looks. 2 seasons ago, when we beat them 4-1, my mate was in there. He'd kept quiet all game, and at the final whistle simply stood up, took off his jacket, revealing his Liverpool top, and walked casually to the bar.
The barman thought it was fucking hilarious, everyone else, less so.
