I'm currently for Alternate Voting because the last arguement I saw was for it.
Are you for or against it? I really donno, don't think it would make much of a real diferance, it'll be Cons or Labs in power anyway. I think when I go to tick the boxes, my vote will go to whoever the last person to explain it to me says.

What's your view on it?
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:18, 135 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
It seems we are viewless.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:25, Reply)
My view is that it is extraordinarily dull and almost completely irrelevant.
The only party I could vote for with a clear conscience was disbanded under rather trying circumstances in the mid-1940s.

We are about to drink booze.

Unless it's a bus ride away from Brixton station, in which case I know exactly why I'm not invited.

Because you refuse to demean yourself by getting on a bus?

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:40, Reply)
It's not the bus I object too, I got on one today, use them most weeks.
But lol, yeah', that's it. I've only been to Brixton once, I was 13 and going on a failed telly show which was a technology quiz thing. I won 10 PC Video games and it took them 6 months deliver FF7, the only game that arrived.... I've been shit-scared of brixton ever since.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:46, Reply)
Where I got the impression that I can't be stabbed on the tube but am guarntied to get stabbed on a night/brixton/wood-green bus.... I have no idea.
But please god don't pop that bobble that I could still be stabbed on the tube or I'll never leave N14.

Although his Cat is surely less eligent in writtings.

Also, I always stop myself writting 'such' as 'Sutch', because that is how I say it.

* Oldest politition I can think of.

I was just remarking that he'd topped himself. Very sad.
He was a real pioneer in rock'n'roll as well - Alice Cooper nicked his stage act wholesale (he freely admits this), coffins and horror makeup etc - and his drummer Carlo Little was a major influence on (and at one point tutor of) Keith Moon of The 'Oo.

Bartleby saw him live in Wembley in 1973.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:45, Reply)
I saw Sutch & Co at the Station Tavern back in the early Nineties.
His guitarist, Little Lenny, was only fractionally taller than the Strat he (Lenny) was playing ...
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:48, Reply)
Haha
The problem with his music is that it was shit. He really wasn't very good was he?
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:52, Reply)
Agreed - I think Sutch and Lenny were sitting in with some other band's rhythm section.
I can remember the band's usual lead chap (think it was Mo'Indigo if memory serves, it was a long time ago) sitting there looking a little bit shellshocked as the Loonies rampaged around in a blues style ... it was funny to watch though!
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:57, Reply)
I'm voting for it purely because the anti campaign is retarded.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:28, Reply)
It's a good enough reason for me.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:31, Reply)
I was watching a female boxer and male hurdler debating it on C4 news last night with John Snow reff'ing it.
I gather the anti arguement is
- One Person One Vote
- £250m to impliment
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:34, Reply)
And both of those points are wrong.
Everyone gets the same number of votes under AV, and it won't cost £250 million.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:36, Reply)
Also it's quite easy to spot the motivation
Parties who are anti: think they'll do worse under the system
Parties who are pro: think they'll do better under the system

The rest is bollocks.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:39, Reply)
Innit.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:48, Reply)
How much will it cost? Give me the top and bottom estimate (respected estimate, not Monty's opinion based on napkin maths in the pub).
I guess the One Vote One Person thing is wrong, I mean, the point of their arguement there... 'cus it's still everyone getting the same. It's like instead of everyone getting a matleeser to give to the girl they like, they get a packet and can hedge their bets.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:40, Reply)
if onyl all politics could be
explained with maltesers and girls
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:43, Reply)
You'd totally get at _least_ 35% of them, and given that I'd hedge my bets between at least one that has a good chance, one that I've got no chance and one that I might have a chance with but looks doubtful...
... so that's quite a compliment.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:48, Reply)
No one knows, plus it doesn't matter
democracy is expensive but some things are worth paying for.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:44, Reply)
Like prostitutes. The cheap ones are a false economy, I've found.

My mate Yeti was once offered a blowjob off a crack whore in Shoreditch... for £6.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:47, Reply)
He claims to have turned her down.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:50, Reply)
I've never worked out why men get paid more to be in porn than women.

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:56, Reply)
Do they really?
Mind you, it's probably because it's a bit more specialised then for teh women. Anyone can get their vadge pounded, but only some men have "what it takes"
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:05, Reply)
A friend of mine was telling me he was offered one by a crack whore in Brixton for a similar price
Apparently she was quite persistent, until he explained to her that he'd only just moved into the area, didn't even have £6 on him and was looking to get something to eat with the £2.75 he had left and nothing personal, love, but he wasn't interested.

Her reply?
"I'll give you one for £2.75."
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:56, Reply)
"But love, I'm hungry, leave me a quid for chips and you got a deal".
"Awww MAN ! What do you mean Chips are £1.10 ? "
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:02, Reply)
It will cost the same as any other election
you have to either pay people to count the votes, or you invest in electronic vote counting machines. But you will need the same whichever system you use.

The main point is that cost should not be a factor when considering the most democratic method of electing politicians.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:44, Reply)
Can't we rent the machines from other countries that have electronic voting? I mean, it's not like they're using them at the time.
Yeh', I agree. Like for example, I'm supposed to get a double-dose of some stuff called Inflixnab/Remicade, been waiting for it for 3 months now, and because of finances, they haven't said yes or no yet. But I can only have the stuff every 2 months, and if I don't get my next dose next week, I risk becoming imume and the stuff not working at all ever again. I was waiting 'till they tell me yes/no, but if I wait longer than next week then the risk is so high, that we're just going to go with a normal dose and next time (in 2 months) I'll hopefully have a dessision.

But yeah', money shouldn't affect these things.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:54, Reply)
It's more like everyone gets a malteser to give to the girl they like,
but if she doesn't put out they can take it back and give it to the next one down the list, until either they finally get one who will put out or the girls get too ugly for them to bother.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 16:49, Reply)
How can anyone be against that?

I'm against AV for a number of reasons
most (but not all of which) have nothing to do with the voting system
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:34, Reply)
Is it because whoever gets elected, they will in time, turn out to be an expenses fiddling bender?

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:36, Reply)
What are your reasons?

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:39, Reply)
manifold
but as said not much to do with the actual voting system and more of the meal that is being made of it. Apart from anything else, now really isn't the time to be implementing this reform.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:40, Reply)
When is a good time to have reform then?

(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:42, Reply)
can't predict the future sadly
I'm not very up with the news at the moment (in comparison to my usual self) but I feel very strongly that AV is almost being blown out of proportion to cover the other mini crisies that are going on at the moment.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:45, Reply)
The referendum was put in place almost a year ago
so the fact that other shit has happened is no reason to just go, oh it's not important, lets forget it.

I feel the complete opposite, it's not being discussed enough by people with brains, Channel 4 having Chris Akabusi debating with a retarded female boxer was a fucking disgrace.

A major reform to our voting system deserves to have proper debate about the actual system, not sidetracking about who is funding who.
(, Fri 15 Apr 2011, 17:50, Reply)
Click.
This could be as important as the 1832 reform act. Immediately it led to a grand total of 6% enfranchisement but led to great progress.

Blair got a third term with the backing of less than 30% of the population. The only PM in the 20th century to win the popular vote was Stanley Baldwin with 50.4% of the country behind him.

EDIT: He only got pushed over the 50% mark by a coalition agreement with a minor party

*arrives late to the debate*
I think it's a very good idea. I also think it is incredibly easy to understand, and I don't get why some people don't understand it.

Maybe I just don't understand it fully.
