Right that's boring,
So what do you all think of the "occupy" protests?

I don't really understand their point but because I'm a bleeding heart liberal and people are protesting peacefully I'm all for them.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:37, 127 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
I find myself in complete agreement with you on this one.
Protesting seems like a good thing in general, a tradition to be preserved, but I doubt they'll do anything, or even have a clear idea of what they are doing, beyond expressing discontent. Also taking bets on how long before they 'turn' violent.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:40, Reply)
That's my only concern
They are just protesting for the sake of protesting, but their is no aim, so they can't really argue for anything.

But they are doing it nice and peacefully so yeah, go for it.

As long as they don't spoil my trip to New York of course, in which case they can fuck off.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:41, Reply)
I think it'll be fine, there'll just be a small group you can walk around.
They're not taking over the city
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:48, Reply)
Good.
If they were I'd have to wrestle the gun off a nearby police man and occupy their heads with some hot lead.

'cause I would totally do that.

Just like in GTA 4

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:51, Reply)
I pretty much agree with you
no problem with them as long as they're doing it the way they currently are

I know. It's terrible

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 13:26, Reply)
I think they are a good thing.
And I think quite a lot of them probably do know what they are protesting. And are probably doing so more as a symbolic gesture than in any great expectation of achievement. But better to live in hope than die in acceptance, as they say.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:42, Reply)
That's generally my thinking,
Their lack of coherant goals isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just saying "this is broken, stop ignoring it" which is a valid point imo.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:49, Reply)
My only worry is
that the police will employ kettling or some other genius move, sparking violence and making it all look illegitimate. Actually quite surprised this hasn't happened already.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:52, Reply)
They nearly did when they said it was illegal and disrespectful to stay at St Pauls,
but the priest there told them to do one and they were welcome to stay if they didn't damage the cathedral.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:54, Reply)
Not that I'm saying protesters are never in the wrong.
And there's often a Black Block contingent at these things just looking for a fight, but even when that does not happen, it's like the police are doing their best to incite violence, which is just silly.

Well done the priest on this one. First and last time I'll be saying that.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 11:58, Reply)
The priest is happy as there are some youngish boys taking part in the protest

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 12:01, Reply)
Tsk tsk, lazy perpetuation of stereotypes.
Carry on.
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 12:03, Reply)
Or, indeed, just that anyone has shown up at church.

That priest was wonderful. I nearly gave up my #occupysofa protest to applaud him.
But then the Arsenal/Sunderland game kicked off, so I didn't.

People are doing protests.
There was Occupy Wallstreet which is pretty ronseal and now they are doing Occupy London or Occupy the Stock Exchange or something. I'm not really following, but I gather it's some kind of protest about rich bankers and such. My friend's really into it, so most of my knowledge comes fom her facebook updates.
