morning.
I see Alvin Lee is no more. Two good albums but an irritating guitar playing style. i think I'll cope ok with this bereavement. Ever been upset by the death of a musician or actor or whatever? Given my tastes I'm going to see more and more dying these days. But what about your weekend nommy lunch pulled pork plans?

Meh, people die

I was genuinely saddened by the death of JG Ballard.
True story.

Prince Philip will probably outlive Monty
Although there might be some sort of Casual Racists' Faustian Pact that ties their life forces together
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:25, Reply)
I have no idea who Alvin Lee was.
I was saddened when Spike Milligan died; big fan of his - particularly his books.

This weekend will fairly standard I expect: hanging out with family, watching the rugby, having the occasional beverage and cooking some decent food.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:18, Reply)
Rock as well as roll.

(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:19, Reply)
MJ, obviously
I was absolutely gutted when he passed. Not as much as a mate of mine who had tickets to one of his O2 shows. Imagine that
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:20, Reply)
There were a lot of relieved kids when he died though.

(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:21, Reply)
The same generation of kids who stepped away from the wall when the King died
probably grew up adoring Justin Bieber. Ask yourself what's worse.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:23, Reply)
Until Bieber is repeatedly called out as a fucking nonce I'd say Jacko was way worse.
His records post Jackson 5 were all toss - and quite a lot of the Jackson 5 ones were too. He was a fucking freak with a Messiah complex who should have been burnt at the stake years before his malformed, mutant frame finally gave out on him. The fucking shit wanker.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:47, Reply)
Pretty much how I felt
Although I could never express it so eloquently.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:48, Reply)
ah BK there you are! How are ya?

(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:59, Reply)
We're not having a disagreement on the internet are we Monts?
I'm not sure my poor disillusioned brain can stand having its world-view so utterly shattered by this brilliant dissection of Michael Jackson's musical merits.

tl:dr - shut up you tragic, aged, drug-ridden, soup kitchen-frequenting, tramp-impersonating, change-begging, AIDS carrying, and most of all spectacularly incorrect wanker

STILL tl:dr - nah.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:54, Reply)
S'funny, 'cause 'Wacko' inspired the sort of devotional fan who really could see no wrong in the man and were genuinely upset when he died.
Whereas the rest of us found it quite lol.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:55, Reply)
That is unusual in a multi-million selling artist
Most people with the biggest album of all time under their belt have a decidedly unbothered fanbase.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:58, Reply)
His fans are proper nuts though
No offence.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 9:01, Reply)
Oh, none taken
the mentalists at his last trial scared even me. I was quite happy to keep my MJ-worship to listening to his records and learning to moonwalk. Because that's what musicians are for, FFS. However much you love an album it doesn't mean that whoever recorded it is speaking to you directly and understands you as a person.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 9:03, Reply)
I agree with Monty.
He was doing a Savile- putting himself in a position where he would have easy access to kids, then nonced them.

I've only been upset/bothered by 3 famous people's deaths
Michael Clarke Duncan, Humphrey Lyttelton and Dimebag. It was a little sad with Heath Ledger, but I was a bit 'meh' at the time.

Weekend involves a gig and quite a bit of drinking.

I was upset when Warren Zevon died. Largely because I'm a massive cunt though.

And I'll be broken hearted when Emmylou Harris eventually dies. Unless she turns shit before then.

I'll be gutted if Dylan goes before I manage to see him live.
There's a good chance he will though, as I always struggle to motivate myself to pay upwards of 50 quid for a midweek gig in another city that has reasonable odds of being a bit shit.

Awful. Still haven't seen the film.
(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 8:51, Reply)
Yeah I remember watching the race itself too
You should watch the film though, yes objectively it does canonise him somewhat but it is simply brilliant. If you watched the race as well then the last 30 mins are some of the most compelling viewing I have ever seen.

I have heard that it is a very good film.

This is a much better idea
I'd like to add Madonna, as am quite worried that she's going to keep releasing ever-diminishing nonsense forever, whilst becoming ever more mannish.

Conversely I hope Noel Gallagher lives forever (LOL!) because otherwise the radio stations will be awash with the worst music ever made and fuckwits pretending he was good.

Best idea for a cull EVER, right. Announce that the Gallaghers have carked it, set up a shrine (in the shape of an enormous arse curling one out over the White Album), kill anyone who turns up. The nation's average IQ should rise by 30 points and the Kaiser Chiefs will be out of work overnight.

Yes but not Liam

(, Fri 8 Mar 2013, 9:22, Reply)
Surely "one of our members is on drugs" is not a good enough reason for Oasis, of all bands, to split up?

They think he's the fucking messiah, the bunch of cunts
I'll admit, there are a few Oasis songs I like, but the majority of them are utter toss.
