Because people complain.You can link to them, or put them inside the thread if they're not bandwidth-rapingly big or mind-rapingly spazzy.
that way, if people think their bosses might find out they're twatting about on the internet, they can choose to avoid the threads with pictures.
It's not strictly speaking in the FAQ rules, but it's accepted procedure here, and we ask everyone to stick by the same game rules.

It was explained the most people on this board prefer not to have pictures, certainly not on the main page. Those people came back, posted more pictures, complained again when those pictures got modded. Now you're here, posting pictures and complaining that they get modded.

For example, I can go on any site I want, I have different tabs open. I can spend some time on here, it's not dictated by a figure, but if comedy pictures come up, then it's blate that I'm not concentrating that time to work (such as a task could be running in the background or waiting for someone to get back to me)......
And it makes all the other "not-work-but-allowed-and-semi-relivent" stuff seem totally slack. Eg, if this was full of pictures, then people would think that [for example, a site with a new CSS technique, that is relivent to me] would fall under the same catagory.
