there was a prick who tied a load of helium balloons to a garden chair to annoy his wife
but shot up way too quickly, then died.

not quite a death, but a nasty injury - when i was a trainee working in insurance litigation, we had a chap who was claiming against his employer because he'd been injured on a building site. the workmen had been too lazy to carry the equipment down the stairs, had roped off an area, and chucked it out of the window. he had ignored the ropes (contrib neg) and been hit on the head by the equipment. the irony was that it was safety equipment, a canvas intended to protect any workers who fell off whilst working high up...

Yes, according to legend they cut their own heads off, although there are very few sources to say it actually happened sadly. Regardless it's one of my favourite things despite the fact it probably didn't happen.
