Your thoughts please? Are you scared, indifferent or a little troubled?
I'm not greatly concerned, but then before I left my place of work, I procured a box of tamiflu vaccines.

Ocelot Herpes on the other hand, well, that's another story.

other than that I'm indifferent.
If I get swine flu it means a week off work and I lose half a stone.
No biggie.

my sources tell me no one has died from it outside mexico and that so far it's not too bad.
if it looks to be getting worse it'll get dealt with. it's like SARS and bird flu again.
someone: "cough cough"
media: "OH MY FUCKING GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!"

about the way it's targeting people. it's not targeting very young people and very old people and people who are already sick - it's targeting people who are healthy and strong (in our general age bracket) whose immune systems are strong.

Things like this are a blessing in disguise, if indeed it goes start to go pandemic.

we've had all the scares before, nowt happened.
Although I did get bird flu once. Found myself unable to talk about anything but soap operas, coupled with a handbag obsession and the need to sit down for a piss.

It's only a bit of flu, they just need to lie on the sofa and watch GMTV for a couple of days.

I'll start to worry when things get a lot worse than they are now.

All the little piggies have bought it :0)

that a member of the company my friend has just got a job at, has prevented an employee from coming to work through fear of spreading it through the office after returning from mexico.

Maybe if I pretend I am off to Mexico this weekend I can get some time off work...

there are too many people as it is.
and anyway, I've played the game Pandemic several times and try as I might I can't kill everyone on the planet, so we don't have to worry too much
( , Tue 28 Apr 2009, 15:46, Reply)

I have managed to kill everyone a couple of times
*evil laugh*

With my parasite.
That was hard work, and took a long, long time.

I am worried that Swine Fever is going to join forces with Mad Cow and Avian Bird Flu and come up with something new like a Vexed Kitten Plague.
As ever, I blame immigrants and lack of good old fashioned family values for the whole thing.

what would you do in your last few days?

Then we'll be in trouble.

when the BBC reports that there is no longer any room in hell and the dead are walking the earth, then it's brown trouser time for me.

One of my staff's wives takes every single one of these ridiculous scares utterly seriously - I think they'll be living off the tinned food she stockpiled after one of them (I think perhaps it was anthrax, perhaps?) for years.

Little bored with swine flu here. Here being Toronto, which was shunned by the rest of the world during the SARS ``crisis'' a few years back. At least a few people not in the epi-centre died in the SARS thing. Has anyone outside of Mexico shuffled off this mortal coil yet because of the swine flu? Not to say they've got a shit medical system there, but they've got a shit medical system there. And shit air quality.
Had to talk Mrs. Tuqueboy down off a cliff when Tuque Jr (19 months) got ``flu-like symptoms'' last night. He's fine this morning.

With thanks to RBF esquire from /links and DiTs from here.
I will now go away and think up my own pork related illness gags.

Not worried about dying from it. However I have had the proper flu before, not a savage head cold like many typical flu-claiming wankers, but the real deal (different strains have different intensities of course). And while I didn't die I wished I could. Trust me, anyone who has genuinely had the flu will tell you the same thing - its really horrible. Forget all this 'watch tv' stuff. There is not a single thing that will make you feel like anything except dying.
That said, Tamiflu did make a difference. Problem was I was too ill to go to the doctor until about 4 days into the illness so chances are I was getting better naturally anyway. And getting to the doctor was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life, both physically and mentally. Thank god for people close to you to help you in your time of need.
Flu might not kill you, but it will guarantee you one of the worst weeks of your life.
note: swine flu might be more or less intense than other flu strains... who knows.

(so obviously I will catch it from a customer who comes in for Lemsip and breathes all over me, or sneezes on their grubby money before pressing it into my unsuspecting hand, and then I will infect the rest of the customers before I die and then I will be at the epicentre of an outbreak which will eventually kill off the human race, and I shall feel terribly responsible and guilty)
no, but what I was about to say is, our training on colds and flu says "if a customer comes in asking for something for flu, they haven't got flu".
( , Tue 28 Apr 2009, 23:28, Reply)

if I weren't old enough to remember the whole 1976 swine flu debacle under President Gerald Ford in the U.S. I think more people ended up getting sick and dying from the shots to prevent the flu, than from the flu itself.
