New tv show thread
Since I last did one of these I've watched all of
The wire
Sopranos
Rescue me
Studio 60
Lost
24

I'm working my way through Sons of anarchy right now and I love it. Just did season 1 of 30 rock and I'm waiting for more to download, I've got Firefly to watch next, but then I'm all out of stuff to watch. Recommend me more good tv please.

Alt Q: What's the last text you sent and received?

They've done a remake?

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:29, Reply)
yep starring the space hooker from firefly.

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:30, Reply)
Oh I heard that was good, I'll give it a try

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:30, Reply)
I'd like to see that.
The original 2 mini series are still two of my favourite things ever.

The subsequent TV series was shit though.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:30, Reply)
It was shit
but in a good way! The new series is all of the awesome!
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 10:14, Reply)
I saw the first episode of that
Thought "Mmm, shows promise" and have promptly missed every episiode since owing to various circumstances.

Is the mad psycho woman in it the same person that was Miles' flaky girlfriend Delilah in This Life?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:27, Reply)
Um, I'm not sure who she is but she's good.
All the episodes are on the iPlayer if you need to catch up.

BellEnders bingo.
Points for every time someone says "Wos goin on", "Cupatea" or "Faaaaamleeee". Do it as a drinking game and you're pissed in half an hour. Magic.

I'm not a great TV watcher
I enjoy House and Glee. Should disqualify me from any reccommendations, if only for the latter.

Watching Martyrs at the moment. Or trying to.
-weeps-

Glee!
BUMDER! BUMDER!

Even though you're a girl...
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:33, Reply)
I enjoy musicals too, and have a fondness for glitter!

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:34, Reply)
The Mariah Carey film? You are a massive bumder

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:47, Reply)
No, actual glitter
I've not seen Glitter- never seen a Mariah Carey film, thank the sweet lord.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:48, Reply)
You should see Precious. She was good in that.

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:54, Reply)
Did she get killed in a horrible way
like being stabbed through the tits? Cos I'd watch it if that were the case.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:57, Reply)
whhhaaaaaaaaaattt
I want to play her tits like bongo drums
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:58, Reply)
Being her best feature
I'd imagine that would traumatise her beyond my wildest dreams. So that's what I'm going for.

Alright Kristine?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:59, Reply)
Alright DG
just overheard this at work "Bob, will you go heat his nuts up?"
hehe
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:04, Reply)
I heard today
"DG, why haven't you finished that fucking project assessment yet?"

My sides have only just recovered.

I wanted to see Precious
though it looks pretty damn depressing
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:06, Reply)
It is, but it's good with it though

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:09, Reply)
Just finished Martyrs
No depressing films for a while.
I need something happy. Please. Please.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:11, Reply)
Of course it's depressing
It's got Maria Fucking Carey in it!

Allegedly.

parenthood is well good
I have no idea why I like it so much, but I do

also, In Plain Sight and if you're looking for mayjah dramz try Secret Life of the American Teenager
beware: it will suck you in
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:38, Reply)
Ooh, I'll try all of those

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:42, Reply)
apparently there's a drinking game for secret life, everytime they say the word 'sex' you have to take a shot
I doubt anyone's ever made it through the whole episode
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:43, Reply)
Much like Eastenders
and the phrase "It's family, innit"?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:00, Reply)
dunno, never seen it
sex is like every other word in each conversation
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:01, Reply)
Trust me.
There are a certain stock phrases that you'll hear in an episode of EastEnders about half a dozen times. Since they last half an hour, that's a startling lack of originality, and also the quickest drinking game ever.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:06, Reply)
if I ever get to the UK I'm going to totally play that shit

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:14, Reply)
House
is made of win. Grey's Anatomy I also hear good things about but have never seen. I only started watching House for Hugh Laurie *melts* but it's actually rather good. I tried to tell myself that watching it counted as revision; perhaps that's why I got a 2:2...
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:46, Reply)
I learnt all I needed to know about DIC from House. We had a cat who had it a few weeks ago and I was able to hold my own when the vets did their rounds.

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:55, Reply)
All good choices
Like everyone else who has persisted with The Wire I love it. The Sopranos I keep meaning to devote some time to retrying sometime soon but I did enjoy the first two seasons. Rescue Me tucking rocks, and so does Studio 60. Lost I gave up on at 1x05 and having heard the conclusion summary TH that Lampito linked to.it sounds like I didn't miss anything & 24 I lost track of round about 3x12 but am planning a week or two to catch up sometime soon.

Both SOA and 30 Rock are excellent and highly recommended, if you end up enjoying SOA then I would highly recommend The Shield which is by the same writer and thoroughly enjoyable.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 20:55, Reply)
Oh I forgot about the Shield. I think I have it downloaded somewhere

Law and Order: SVU
It's the reason I won't get Freeview to save money because the Hallmark Channel ain't on Freeview. It rocks. Sometimes I wake up singing the theme tune.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:09, Reply)
And shortly
You'll wake up screaming "YOU CAN'T NEED FED AGAIN! DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO MY NIPPLES?"

And then Catface will apologise and go back to sleep.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:12, Reply)
I'll sing them both an SVU theme lullaby
while I leak over the sheets.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:15, Reply)
Hmm...I've never heard anything good about it. You've reminded me that I need to get one of the CSI's though. It's got Rory Cochrane in it after he got fat.
I totally would if he looked like he did in Empire records.

I want to see the original Prisoner again
I was in Portmeirion where they filmed it last week and it's an amazing and surreal little place.

I'm addicted to Season 2 of True Blood at the minute. Love it.

I've still not seen the new one
i've heard mixed reviews - have you seen it?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:30, Reply)
Seen bits of the new one
I didn't like it, misses the English eccentricity I reckon.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:31, Reply)
This is true.
The new series has none of the claustraphobia of the original In fact its nothing like the original. I hoped it would be good, but it isn't.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 21:45, Reply)
this is a shame
although I may still watch it one day if it's on some iplayer equivalent

I tried watching the Drugs episode, something about mandrills
I just wasn't in the mood. The opening credits are so great and ovr the top.

Not bad. Blasting Dead or Alive while sitting in bed, contemplating one more smoke before I turn in. Or maybe stay up til 2 reading the Daily Wh.at or something. How are you?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 23:55, Reply)
Try watching Paedageddon
or Crime. They're the best.

You Spin me Right Round! Stay up till two. I'm going to be, since I had such a good night's sleep last night. It was a great night though

She's going to start a clubnight. One night she'll play songs from Glee- she'll be the Glee-jay.

Monty? Can you hear us?

I reckon he's just got that feeling where someone's walked over his grave. Singing show-tunes and leaving glitter in their wake.

What a fantastic mental image
cheer-leader outfits mandatory of course. Especially for Monty
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 0:49, Reply)
We then ran around doing and singing the Safety Dance
last night, that is. Monty is more than welcome to join in...

I've just updated my Awesome Spotify Playlist. I need to start sorting out the truly bad, terrible, brilliantly terrible and plain embarrassing.

old-school Muse, Blondie, Major Lazer, Blazin' Squad and Bowie altogehter? Hehehe...
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 0:52, Reply)
He'll kill you hard
Speaking of Spotify, we had pre-drinks last night and put on my 'embarassing but fun' playlist, and it was brilliant. Only one other person in the room knew the names and lyrics of all the shit 90's rock I possess, but that was enough

I LIKE YOU SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU'RE NAKED
I'm glad that's going to be on autocomplete.

On the Dark (k)Night (the one where we went out dressed as batman villains) we were singing that but with lyrics like:

I don't liiiiiiike liiiiike
when you're Bruce Wayne when you're Bruce Wayne
I won't miiiiind miiiiind if you put on your mask
put on your damn mask
Because I LIKE YOU SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU'RE BATMAN etc

that makes me laugh so much
along the lines of screaming the words to Closer in the junior dean's face accidentally. I never want to tell a stoic German that I want to fuck him like an animal

We discussed Skins and Glee with our latin tutor
Quote: "I don't see the appeal of Skins. I turned it on, there were two lesbians and a convict who spent most of the episode topless. Ok, maybe that's the appeal"

I love him.

I love tutors
came across a friend's English tutor in a club on a gay night. He looked very very uncomfortable.
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 1:45, Reply)
He's from Bradford.
Utterly fantastic. When I came back from the hiccup over Easter, he offerd to buy me coffee and instead of being all "Oh are you ok" just talked to me like a normal person. It was the best thing ever.

that and he gave us about 45 mins of break in the lecture. AWESOME.

Plus: that Hunx song is the gayest thing ever. Watch the video on Youtube for added homosex.
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 1:48, Reply)
That's pretty amazing
one of my ex-tutors founded the Cambodian Appeal. After my illness he gave me his entire library to have while he was in Indonesia. A total hero.

Hmm that video is the gay. I shall link you to a video that made me reconsider my stance on muscular men
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 1:52, Reply)
That's fucking awesome.
(inappropriate autocomplete: THAT'S FUCKING STUCK IN MY HEAD YOU TWAT)
And lovely. I just have the latin tutor, who looks like he's a recovering party animal, a pintsized personal tutor who loves Harry Potter and references My Big Fat Greek Wedding in relation to her family, a tutor who doesn't understand how to teach undergraduates, and a couple of ones I've never really talked to.

Actually, when I was ill, my friend went up to one of them and told them that Dorothy was ill. She blinked, as there's no one with that name on the register. Whoops.
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 1:58, Reply)
I think your tutors sound pretty awesome
After I was ill, I still had medical problems and mine have just been lovely. Except for the Greek tutor who turned up at the hospital with Being Jane, scented candles and an apology for telling me I was lying when I told her I was ill
(, Thu 27 May 2010, 2:04, Reply)
Ouch. Bet she felt bad about that
