Forrin!
Just about to sit down and watch Pedro Almodovar's latest, Broken Embraces and last night I watched A Prophet which was brilliant.
Anyone got any other decent foreign films they would recommend? My Lovefilm list is running a bit dry at the moment!

All kinds really, not any one particular genre
But strange or bizarre will always do!

hm
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is a bit bizarre (and good.) A Samurai film that was a bit odd was Zatoichi, All About my Mother is the best Almodovar film. I'm sure I'll think of more in a moment

I can only recommend the classics then
stuff like Tokyo Story, Ikiru, the adaption of the Makiota sisters.
Or for good old fashioned cheesy fun, Azumi

Versus was the film that made me realise that in Japanese, "Why?" has 8 syllables and, "Oh no! You have opened a portal to Hell!" has 3.
Fucked up language, that.

I'm going to assume you've seen all the undisputed masterpieces
like Seven Samurai, City of God, La Haine, The Lives of Others and Tokyo Story
Das Experiment - you seem to like "batshit mental"
Tetsuo: Iron Man - see above, but much sillier
Kagemushi - an older Kurosawa, it's awesome (duh)
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! - classic Almodovar

Or the German Expressionist stuff from the 20's - Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, etc

I was a late convert, Becky letters showed me the error of my ways there.
Haven't seen either of them, but I have seen Metropolis.

Check out Nosferatu
It might seem a bit dated because it's basically Dracula by another name, but the imagery is fantastic and the atmospherics are bloody terrifying

Cache - with an acute accent over the e - is also ace.
And I really enjoyed
Noone Knows about Persian Cats, which is a semi-fictional film about indie bands in Tehran. Watch that if you get the chance.

called 'Them' it was extremely effective. Short, almost no filler and very much of the immense tension school. Worth your while

The films always have such a different feel to them, they can end up going in any direction or none at all, and still be good. Massive Almodovar fan.
