I didn't know you used to be a drug addict.

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:08, archived)
when I was 16/17
thanks to NA and kind parents I managed to get through it, I'm the model ex addict and I've got 8 clean years to prove it, i still go to meetings and counsel young addicts
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:10, archived)
oh and the usual
no heroin, luckily. The slippery slope starts at weed and it's a downhill spiral
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:11, archived)
you are quite clearly an idiot
keep up the good work, nonce
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:14, archived)
He's not an idiot.
Think about it. He's "counselling" young addicts. They're young. And they're vulnerable.

He's one clever nonce.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:17, archived)
wahey
BY THE WAY I'M NOT ADVOCATING IT BUT group therapy is the easiest place to pull but GOD DAMN do you regret it after
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:18, archived)
I'm reading this as 'someone once sold me some speed and my mum found out'

This is the first time I've laughed out loud at /talk for a long time.
Thanks.

thats pretty much what i figured as well.
is it possible to be addicted to aspirin?

OH I JUST REMEMBERED THIS IS /TALK

I MEAN OMG TITS/SNAKES/ANTLER/OMGJMG/GAAAY

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:18, archived)
I hope that you're not suggesting that..
..a man with a large collection of hair care products who regualrly feels compelled to inform us of which girls he REALLY, REALLY LIKES is hiding something.

he's now bitterly against the 12 steps and sees NA attendees as brainwashed cult victims. But at least he's off the smack.

i can honestly undersdtand that
it's a very preachy way of doing it, and people that are successes in it can be very condescending. it worked for me though and I'm indebted to them forever because of it

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:32, archived)
he looks like he had a bad experience of it
I met some great people through it but to be honest the best thing i ever did was leave this awful country for 7 years, that was my "12 steps"

if you share anything personal on a cynical internet chatroom and expect it to be taken seriously...
Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.

"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?"

The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drownings frog's back.

"I could not help myself. It is my nature."

you are just a fucking idiot. go on then. spill. what were you addicted to? lemsip?

think carefully before you answer tho, i smoked my first spliff when i was 11. first coke at 13, by the time i was 14 i had a 3 gram a day speed habit. at one point i was smoking 3 ounces of skunk a month, and my record for acid is 8 black microdots in 6 hours.

in all that time, i never needed therapy. never needed NA, never hurt anyone, never stole to feed my habits and NEVER BECAME A WHINY LITTLE ORANGE TOSSER LIKE YOU.

BRING ON THE LEMSIp TANGOMAN!!

This isn't a competition for who's the biggest dick dear

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:24, archived)
i would win that hands down.. *grin*
i know, i just hate the whole "drugs are bad, m'kay" culture that most ex NA members have. its bollocks, drugs are loads of fucking fun if you are not an idiot who doesnt do his homework first :D
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:28, archived)

but to claim "i've done loads of drugs and never experienced any issues, therefore everyone who has had problems with drugs are whingers"
is a fairly misjudged opinion

but i only have the experience of me and my friends to go by. all of which have similar stories to myself, and none of which turned out to be orange faced nonces..

go figure..
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:36, archived)
i think you're confusing the issue of addiction with anger at an internet stranger.
I mean, i wouldn't admit addiction on b3ta and not expect to get mocked for it but by the same token i wouldn't expect an adult to actually make a post going "GOD LOOK AT ALL THESE DRUGS I'VE TAKEN"
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:39, archived)
I think Az is pointing out that he managed to deal with the issue without NA,
not a 'ooh look how hardcore I am'.

just because it's fun,
doesn't mean it's a good idea. I prefer to get my enjoyment out of real life, rather than chemically fooling my brain into thinking things are brilliant.
But that's just me. You do as you like.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:40, archived)
hang on there now, just because your drug use never became a problem for you
doesn't mean it's the same for everyone by any means
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:24, archived)
everyone is different
and some people do have amazing willpower and i admire them for that

i come from a family of addicts and have an addictive personality. Now my drugs are gambling and women and I drink far too much. but they're nowhere near as bad and they don't make me hurt people

You sicken me
There are days when I wake up, and see the sun shining through the weak blue sky, and I feel happy and refreshed and vitalised by the coming day. And then there are days when I see posts like this and realise that out in that terribly beautiful world are patronising, heartless, unsympathetic oneupmen like you, who trivialise the achievements of others, piss in the face of the individual's triumph, and lash scorn on all that makes each meek little individual his own little hero. I hope your heart is stifled by your own bile, you revolting little urchin.

Or, and I'm just raising this as a possibility here
he sees SikRik's post as an attempt to glorify a minor psychological crutch, which in turn undermines the achievement of anyone who has struggled with a serious addiction.

Well yes, that's how I read it.
Hmmmm, you boys, so silly.

i'd probably prefer that to tedious drug bragging to be honest

What?
It's brilliant, it's the best way to work out how cool you are!
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:33, archived)
Having met Az, I can honestly say that he is not trying to make himself look cool.

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:36, archived)

It seems to be more about bragging than anything else.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:40, archived)
Then you're being a fuckwit.
Read his post again. It's not 'look at me I'm cool', it's 'look at me, I'm still here and functional and I had it worse than you'.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:43, archived)
so rather than making a look at me post, he's merely rubbishing how someone dealt with a problem they considered serious enough to get help for

(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:47, archived)
damn, i made myself out to be a bit of a cock in one post
out of over 12 thousand.. you manage it a couple of times a day. i am clearly going to have to up my game a little..

If you did NA, then you would know addiction is addiction.
It doesn't matter if you're on Crack, Sex, Gambling or pescription/OTCs.

Granted, some are harder than others to cut, but it's still the same thing.

I know loads of people who take weed who never take anything else.
I thought the "slippery slope" argument is discredited nonsense from 1950s public education films. Although I guess some people who do harder stuff smoked weed before that at some point, maybe.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:17, archived)
You know when they talked about that snortable "party dust" shit on the news
and they said it would make people want to take cocaine?
Does that mean that people who inject this new tanning drug will want to do heroin? No, what a load of bollocks

most of the young addicts I know of started with weed
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:20, archived)
Just because they did weed first,
doesn't mean the weed "led to" the rest. It's just the whole general lifestyle thing, by the looks of it. I'll bet most of them actually started on rusks, before moving onto Angel Delight. And THEN weed.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:22, archived)
fair point
but marijuana is a dangerous and addictive grug

and it makes you lazy

My ex went off his head on weed.
He just became psychotic and ended up losing his house, job, motorbike, everything. I'm not saying it was just the weed and he would probably have become addicted to something else because it was in his nature, but I certainly don't believe weed is harmless any more.
(, Mon 17 Nov 2008, 20:29, archived)
Not harmless no,
but you'd have to do a hell of a lot of it to get to that stage.
