It really depends on the amount of brass you are planning on spending.
I would heartily recommend the Nikon D90 but that's not really that much help if you only have a £300 budget.

At entry / mid-range DSLR level, Nikon and Canon's are pretty much equal when it comes to picture quality.
I would recommend going to your local camera shop and picking up and handling the actual camera before buying.
I prefer Nikon because the build quality feels better than the equivalent spec/price Canon ones.

This.
I got a Canon because I was familiar with the controls, but an entry-level Nikon would have served me just as well. Go and pick one up, play with it. I hear Nikons can take older lenses though, so if you're on a budget that might be important.

neither, you want a leica M8.2, pick up a few lenses and you'll be laughing

(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 13:25, archived)
Meh. Since the world went digital, Leicas are just very expensive boxes.
If you want Leica lens loveliness on a digital camera then you're better off with a panasonic lumix whatever the number it is.
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:13, archived)
the camera above is a digital slr

(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:15, archived)
Yes. Thank you very much professor stuff-I-already-know.
Digital Leicas are just overpriced boxes. You're better off with the panasonic lumix whatever the name is which is a better camera using the same lenses for less money.

i'll have you know nothing captures the beauty of the female bumhole quite like a leica

I say! What are you Leica!

to be honest i don't even have a camera, i prefer to take a rubbing

Loads of people told me to go for Cannon, but the Nikon felt better in my hand.
So that's the one I went for.

I wish I knew about the D5000 (I think) when I brought it though.

I got some surprisingly good pictures of Italy with one of those,
many years ago.
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:05, archived)
Was it surprising because you were in Skegness at the time?

(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:10, archived)
It certainly would have been a surprise
if I'd got any nice pictures from there.
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:19, archived)
Was it surprising because you didn't actually take any?

(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:15, archived)
I took two camera's worth!
I had to buy another one while I was there, fortunately Italian film is compatible with Boots.
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:19, archived)
Film is film.
Unless it's a very obscure type I think most places would be able to develop it.

It's good for what I need it for.

Entry level
Canon 1000D - pick p the lenses as you go along, gaz Planearm or Jahled for more, perhaps better info!
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 13:41, archived)
I went with Sony - The A350
as I didn't like to be labelled in either 'camp'. Plus, I had a lot of good quality AF Minolta lenses from an old Minolta 35mm system, and they all fit the Sony Alpha series,
which was the main reason behind it :)
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 13:41, archived)
I bought one of these for Mrs Turb0t on her birthday
she loves it, its a nice camera, and I got a her a 4GB memory card for it too.
The wedding photos that her nephew took using it were crap though.
(, Sun 14 Jun 2009, 14:00, archived)
Speaking of which
how are you getting along with it?
I'm trying to get round to packing up stuff on the bike so I can point the A100 at some bits of Scotland currently (hence fannying around online :)

Along with Bog Snorkling, Darts and Snooker.
edit:

I joke, but I agree with you.

Footballers complain that they're tired 3 days after a football match where they run about 10k in 90 minutes. Most tennis matches last at least that, they run at least that, and during non grand slam events they compete every single day, even during grand slams it's once every other day.
