# i've heard it's dissapointing
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:07, archived)
# was just going to ask if anyone had played it...
I'm a bit bored of LA Noire leading me by the hand, and fancied something new
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:10, archived)
# exactly the same here
got half way through and gave up.
not enough to do outside of the main mission and the main missions were, as you say, just being lead by the hand
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:27, archived)
# l.a. noire was one of the worst games i've ever played
i don't think i'll bother finishing it.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:34, archived)
# So now you understand where there are so many unsolved crimes
Imagine trying to do all the mundane stuff too.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:39, archived)
# ahahaha
"another murder, detective, an 18 year old girl believed to be raped and stabbed to death"

"booooooooooooring"

# "Have you got any cases about a kidnapped parrot?"
I'm trying to fill in my crimespotters book and I've nearly done all the P's

# It's weird
The wife enjoyed watching me play it, got genuinely involved.

But like Real said, there's little to do outside the missions, which you have to do in order.
It may be a step forward in design (though it takes about three missions to work out how to tell if someone's lying), but gameplay wise it's a massive step back
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:49, archived)
# i found it enjoyable up until about mission 3 or 4
then i started to feel a bit like bill murray.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 10:08, archived)
# I concur
Utterly bland
Oh great, I get to search for more clues. Oh joy. I get to guess what some Jessica Rabit type cunt is thinking. After a couple of hours I put GTA on and shot some poor innocent in the head, it cheered me right up

# Hahahaha
I recently went back and finally 'finished' GTA IV
I'd forgotten how good it was
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 10:24, archived)
# i never realized this
if i wanted to watch a movie ill watch a movie. the game is just about the characters (who are pretty cool I admit) and their dialogs and the story so its: talk to person A and drive from A to B and talk to person B and then shoot person B. thats gta IV in a nutshell PLUS shit radio stations (while they used to be so good in liberty city. shock fm with raine wusselmeyer or whatever her name is was the best station. crazy perverted kraut)
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 10:33, archived)
# I know what you mean
I was trying not to expect GTA:LA 1942 so it didn't really bother me that it was a linear sort of game and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

But as the driving about felt so similar to GTA I did find myself crashing into some idiot who pulled out in front of me and wishing I could get out and machine gun their car to death.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 11:01, archived)
# Love to be able to help out,
but I haven't got it yet. But then again I don't have a console to to play it on either. I'll be on my way.

# I loved LA Noire.
But it was a bit short. Hopefully htere'll be some DLC soon.

I'm waiting for my copy of inFAMOUS 2 to arrive now.

Tempted by Duke Nukem but as I'm shit at FPS games, I'll probably wait for a cheap 2nd hand copy.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:59, archived)
# There's a whole pack of DLC for Noire coming.
They're doing a bulk buy pass that gets you all of it at a discount.

# Matchday 2 was the first Football 'simulation' I ever played. Back on the Spectrum
It was great, I can still hear the squidgey noises that were meant to be the referee's whistle :) Ritman United was the team I usually played as but changed the name and Soccerama were my main rivals.

# On the C64
it was soooooo slooooooow...

I swear the pitches were made of treacle
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 10:05, archived)
# ooh Comparing Youtube videos the C64 was a world apart
Spectrum www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnCMkpV3r8k with custom colours
C64 www.youtube.com/watch?v=dErj5ERgLMQ with more gloss slapped on it and different sounds too including a realistic whistle

# Imagine you've been to Glastonbury and really needed a poo for 5 days.
That first one when you get home is just about getting it out.

This one has been brewing for over a decade and had many ideas mixed into it from all through that time. Gearbox took over the IP and had to release this to get all the crap out of the way so they can make their own modern Duke games.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:18, archived)
# Splendid description.
are you writing a paper on it?
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:23, archived)
# Sorry, had to use all my paper after my last festival trip.
I did love Duke 3D but limited my expectations for this. I mean I was keen to finally get a Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy film made and that had a similarly long wait before coming out.

It had that great dolphin introduction www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojydNb3Lrrs but was pretty shit really. Nice that it finally happened though.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:38, archived)
# i liked the knitted bit.
and the intro.

but feel similar as it had lots to live up to.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:56, archived)
# seems silly to start a new series of games with a shit one
people had waited this long, why not start from scratch instead of keeping a load of the old crap from previous developers in it?
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:26, archived)
# The game was dead so when Gearbox got it they just made it releasable as a labour of love too.
The 'fans' wanted Duke Nukem Forever so they gave it to them. They are starting from scratch I think now but they had all that stuff it was too much to scrap it again seeing as that's what has happened to the game for ever. Lots got done, then scrapped. Then more got done, then scrapped, etc until the company went bust.
(, Tue 14 Jun 2011, 9:44, archived)
# I think it's one of those games that bad reviews dont matter...it's the duke, baby
