So many fucking brilliant songs. Little trivia, if you listen to the very end of Comely you can hear the producer shout "Holy Shit" because he thought Jeff was just testing his guitar when instead he played through the whole 8 minutes of the track.

# Shit 80s pop band.
They were the UK's answer to The Jackson 5.

I would like to point out that none of the bands I listed are my faves.

Some bands I really like though are:
Postal Service
Ryan Adams
Jeff Klein
Afghan Whigs
Lindisfarne
Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys
The Who
The Clash
The Libertines
The Cure

I am also rather fond of Classical Music too, particularly SHostakovich and Prokofiev.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:13, archived)
# there are too many bands to list
i completely forgot beach boys, the cure and the clash from my list. not to mention adam ant

(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:23, archived)
# What? how can you say that?
Clearly Good Vibrations at the end of Smile is god's gift to popular music
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:29, archived)
# God only knows takes it from Good Vibrations just because it captures hopeless fornlorn love perfectly
Good vibrations is amazing too... though my number 2 pop song is Rainy night in Soho
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:35, archived)
# Well Afghan Whigs are an American
Shoe Gazey cum Garage rocky type outfit:

And Lindisfarne are an English Folk band:

I strongly suggest you check more of The Beach Boys out, particularly this track:

65 days of static
Lou Rhodes

(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:51, archived)
# Hmm...
Sigur Ros is good. Sometimes. I have trouble liking some of their stuff. My cousin was totally into them. Dunno if she still is. Goldfrapp. Good. And I like Robots in Disguise, too.
What do you think about Bjork?
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:53, archived)
# Gling Glo, Sugarcubes, 808 State, or solo stuff?
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:54, archived)
# Sugarcubes
and solo stuff.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:55, archived)
# Birthday is easily top 10 of greatest singles ever
I saw Sugarcubes play during Stick around for Joy.
I don't think her recordings have ever quite captured how good she is live though
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:57, archived)
# ha
great drumming on that album
Life's Too Good still does it for me though
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 19:58, archived)

My options seem to be either Canada or Uganda.
And they would be a good source of money to fund such a move.
I've never sold any of my music stuff before, given enough of it away in the past, though.

it was a shame, and I wish they hadn't kept apologising. Hopefully they got on top of things for the US leg.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:01, archived)
# Ah, that's a shame. I've only seen them in small venues and they've always had such a great vibe. Perversely, I can't get into their studio stuff.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:03, archived)
# have you got the War of the Worlds mash up?

# ^THIS :D
i don't see how anyone can claim to like any music and then say they don't like the beatles
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:07, archived)
# why?
everyone has different tastes
i think we can all agree they were talented songwriters
but i know i'm not really as fan of 'the beatles'
and really, only like harrison's solo output (except the fucking travelling fucking wilbury's)
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:40, archived)
# Noooo.
I like their lyrics, but I don't like their sound. And i don't really think I'm about to change that. :]
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:07, archived)
# trust me, in 10 years you will think the opposite
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:10, archived)
# Why?
That's Mum music. I am not mum, I never will be a mum. Thusly, no Beatles.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:12, archived)
# you'll see
i'm not sure forcibly expelling a tiny human from your body makes you like the beatles though....
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:15, archived)
# Ssssh
Noooo.
The only time I liked the Beatles was when I saw Across The Universe.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:18, archived)

(which it is)
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:21, archived)
# in which case, like it or not
your mum has a better understanding of music than you. Either that or she just remmebres something amazing and refuses to let go
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:18, archived)
# I think the latter.
In 10 years' time, the Beatles will sound even more shit than now. So I don't see myself ever liking them, even thought my music tastes are always changing and moving.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:21, archived)
# I am not a massive Beatles fan,
but I think that it is very much the blinkers of youth that would make you say they are shit :)

My biggest problem with them isnt their music, it is more the pedestal that they are put upon that gets me. I dont believe any band could ever be as good as people make them out to be. However, love them or hate them, you have to appreciate that they are the most important band in modern music.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:28, archived)
# i sort of agree with this
especially the way that the surviving members have managed to get away with churning out some absolute shit (some of mccartney's most recent stuff is pretty good though, especially chaos and creation...)

i'd like to see a modern band so prolific and yet with such a range and quality to their music though
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:36, archived)
# it can't happen now
the internet has fragmented music too much
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:40, archived)
# the beatles? Just a band
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:36, archived)
# but by that logic all music dopplershifts into shittness as it ages
which Buddy Holly, David Bowie, Jimmi Hendrix among many many others disprove.

don't throw all of the old stuff out of the window because your folks listen to it. it was the music that shaped that generation for a reason.

i'm revisiting The Distillers at the moment. I do like brody's awful voice
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:30, archived)
# David Bowie will ALWAYS be good.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:55, archived)
# the best band I saw

# i have the album on my computer, i like the downtempo stuff but i really dislike the euphoric stuff
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:19, archived)
# Oh, okay.
I like the euphoric stuff when I'm really in a dancing mood. But usually the downtempo stuff is preferred.
(, Mon 7 Jul 2008, 20:22, archived)
