This is a link post Maddox and Spider-Woman's Ass
EDIT: it seems I've kicked up a shitstorm in the comments, urg
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 22:11, Reply)
This is a normal post I'd never heard of this freakish arse obsessed Maddox person before this
so it's certainly done a great job of advertising him and getting people to talk about the comic

Having pressed play I have discovered that Maddox isn't the artist, but some annoying person who for some reason is arguing in favour of that appalling cover

Even more bewildering

This is a normal post he's expertly demolished all the arguments against the spiderwoman ass cover

(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 22:30, Reply)
This is a normal post but he hasn't
he starts by saying they are the same pose, they aren't
They're similar, but the spiderwoman one requires a broken neck for starters

This is a normal post While spiderman's head is totally natural?

(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 22:59, Reply)
This is a normal post not to mention his fingers - what the hell's going on with spiderman's fingers
also, I don't think the outcry against the spiderwoman cover was because it was unrealistic. There's a roll call of unrealistic comic artwork, both of male and female bodies.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:01, Reply)
This is a normal post I wouldn't expect it to be natural, its a comic
the point is, Spiderwoman is "presenting" her arse, whereas Spiderman is clambering round the surface. And while Campbell did give Spidey some arse crack, Spiderwoman's is just that much more disturbing.
The weird broken neck over to one side and impossibly bent arm are lesser problems.

(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:02, Reply)
This is a normal post spider man is sticking his arse in the air, cheeks spread apart, legs implausibly wide
if the woman was in that same position.... well, lets just say I've seen that video
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:07, Reply)
This is a normal post Spiderman's muscles are tensed, meaning that he's raising his arse
something that your drawing doesn't show, which looks more and more like he's humping a massive balloon
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:09, Reply)
This is a normal post and another thing....
it may seem innocent saying 'spiderman is clambering round the surface' as if no gay comic artists have ever existed
but then so is spiderwoman. She is clambering off the side of that wall, one leg still hanging. She can't slither across the floor like snake woman (trademarked).
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:12, Reply)
This is a normal post You're right, if a gay artist had drawn a picture of Spider-Man's bottom,
it clearly wouldn't be innocent.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:26, Reply)
This is a normal post well, the muscular trend in Western art comes down to us from Greece
and restarted by renaissance painters
there's no secret that muscular men in art history appealed to gay men
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:36, Reply)
This is a normal post Right enough, poofters come from Greece, don't they?
I suppose that naked/scantily-clad women in art history appealed to straight men as well. That makes sense.

Wow, who knew art was so complicated?

Spider woman has her further back leg still off the building. So she's actually quite flat from shoulders to pooper.

Everyone's quick to take the higher ground these days. I never heard there was a fuss over the comic, but whoever gives a fuck needs to get a life.
Looks like a pretty cool drawing, maybe they should hire a female or gay guy who also has a clear interest in drawing the human form.
Other than that, who wastes their time worrying about this stuff lol.

This is a normal post one thing that Maddox is totally wrong about is when he goes off about how nothing and everything is sexual
the image is clearly erotic
you wouldn't get away drawing a child in that position - except a toddler
(, Thu 4 Sep 2014, 23:26, Reply)
This is a normal post No.
You are saying that the sexuality comes from the pose alone. That makes you a paedo. It comes from the fact it is a fully developed woman AND the pose combined. A child in that pose would only appear sexual to a deviant.
(, Fri 5 Sep 2014, 1:29, Reply)
This is a normal post I stand corrected
Drawing kids in that pose, and any other suggestive pose, is a OK. Whoever complains is a paedo.

Nothing sexual if I drew My Friday night nocturnal act with the dog. You'd have to be a pervert to find it sexual.

This is a normal post Basically yes.
This is in regards to the general trend that comics have of depicting male and female superheroes. Typically, female characters in almost every panel or scene will be posing like a pin up girl, and are invariably drawn for sex appeal. Male characters, although also wearing muscle revealing skin-tight spandex, are far less often drawn in sexually evocative poses. Superman may look like a chippandale dancer, but he isn't cocking his hips and arching his back, just case any ladies are watching.

Basically, whilst male characters are drawn to idealise their physical form and their sexiness may be incidental, female characters are drawn to be as sexy as possible first. Women like comic books too, however the continuation of this tradition is kind of unfair to them, because the comics aren't made with them in mind; only horny teenage boys. If I were a comic book fan, and every issue from now until forever were to feature men in thongs, thrusting their cocks out towards the viewer in every panel, I'd probably find it annoying too.

This is a normal post They are not talking about comic trends in general, though,
which may be an interesting argument about body image - both male and female.

They also are not talking about how so much media seems marketed to teenage boys - which is annoying both to intelligent adults and teenage girls (although not aiming anything at them would also be odd).

Both sides of the argument are simply arguing about a specific bottom on a comic I'm sure neither of them read.

This is a normal post The few articles I've read on this
specifically refer to how it relates to comic book depictions of women in general, eg: www.themarysue.com/marvel-spider-woman-variant-butt/

There is a thing called The Hawkeye Initiative, which is a parody of this exact thing ("woman showing arse on comic cover").
