Hmmm...
It'd be interesting to hear what the woman said to him. He might have been right.

True enough
But it was fun to see him sweating in the press conference afterwards, apologising.
Even if he was correct, I think heโs left it rather late in the day to start telling the truth and talking openly!

It'd restore a lot of my faith in politics
if, just sometimes, MPs would have the balls to say to voters that they're simply wrong on something - and if that upsets them, tough.

I'd rather a leader has the balls to say that a woman is bigoted rather than just think it.

to her face yes
But he didn't, he said it 'in private' whilst in a huff.
Worst of all he retracted the statement when asked if that's what he really thought.

But why should the fact that he didn't say it to her face make a difference?
He was talking about his conversation with her to a third party. He recounted it in slightly colourful tones. So what?

I think a sense of perspective is called for here.
The media (Edit: Sorry, Skypert Murdoch & Sun) is foaming at the mouth making it out to be some horrific incident. It's hardly on the scale of punching her in the face like Precsott did to a voter during an election.

I'd guess that he didn't say it to her face because it would have been rude.
He said it off the record, to a colleague. You know, like how normal people do.

In the preview picture for the interview she does look a bit bigoted, and as such I don't like her.

And this does make me respect him more..the fact that it shows that he genuinely thinks that a woman who says "send them all home" is a bigot.
Too right, silly old fuck.

I'd like to think not.
I'd like to think that the electorate would shrug its shoulders and accept that it's a non-story, like TSL says up ^there^.
But, then again, I'd like to think that the electorate would happily go for a competent but unpleasant person over a well-presented fool - but I don't.

My point is fairly formal.
As for Brown's competence: I'm not so sure. Obviously, I think he's made some mistakes, but I'm not sure that he's any worse than anyone else'd've been; and, from what I can tell, there's a reasonable amount of economic opinion that's at least vaguely supportive of his handling of the recession.

People just moan about whoever's in charge at the time.
And vote for the other bloke...forgetting that they moaned about his lot last time they were in charge.
Repeat ad-infinitum.

I don't see how the charge of hypocricy is justified.
He's not a people person, but election-by-media forces candidates to go through the charade. The fact that he lets off steam in the back of the car is really no big deal.
There's a difference between a hypocrite and a person who's a bit stroppy.

Well its good to hear that there is a human being out there with such unwavering surety about ever nuance of their life, you should run for office
A confrontational woman comes up to him, he politely explains his stance on issues, removes himself from the situation has a wee moan about the confrontational woman in private. Then when Jeremy Vine plays back a clip of him having a wee moan about the woman, he apologises for any offence given by his wee moan but reiterates that her comment on immigration annoyed him. What the hell is hypocritical about that?
I readily accept that Gordon Brown is going to get attacked on issues on policy, as he should. What I think is ridiculous is him getting a kicking over this (as he will) or the Elvis thing, they got an Elvis impersonator to rally the Labour activists, he comes in after all ready leaving the room after his speech to shake some people hands, Newsnight then describe it as Elvis singing as Brown's introduction before his speech. Thus making a little bit of entertainment for Labour activists into their leading story. *bursts a vessel so irate*
