had to read the youtube info to find out what the story was. I feel that is how my wife would react if I was ever to killed in an accident.
Edit: May have to figure a way of stopping the wife seeing this. Wish there was an ignore link button, as well as ignore member button. Missus will be crying all day if she see this.

The way he keeps look up as if to say "why aren't you helping!?!", so sad.

I think it's a bit weird that we're personifying these creatures?
That's kneeding behaviour, done to express milk by kittens. You'll all think me dreadfully Victorian, but there's little to suggest this young cat is experiencing anything other than confusion, its understanding of death being somewhat, er, incomplete. Higher apes are definitely seen to grieve, but cats aren't particularly developed socially, nothing like dogs or people.
Tell me, can anyone say what's going on here in an objective way? Isn't it more interesting that someone filmed this and put sad music over the top, before posting it onto the internet?

Should we take everything at face value?
What's more, do you eat meat? Wear leather? 'Cos if so there's a whiff of hypocrisy here. By understanding the nature of our pets we can better understand, and cater to, their needs. We're not going to help any creature by sticking the proverbial hat on it and cooing "aww, it think's it's people".

I'm feeling insecure and am now lashing out at others to hide that fact?
I'm afraid they'll find the bodies?
Take your pick.

You're the gentleman who has told me to fuck off. I'm just asking questions. Like: wouldn't life be boring if we all agreed about everything?
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:08, Reply)

I've had it up to here with all the bullying and hatred on here recently.
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:16, Reply)

I don't think I've said anything particularly offensive, and if I have, I've seen far worse on here.
I'm not the one posting videos of dead/dying cats or telling anyone to fuck off.
I can only apologise and wonder how you've made it this far without your sensibilities being so badly bruised.

this place used to be a nice place to visit.

but is it just this thread, or have the comments been on other threads? Because Mr Fish's initial post about the anthropomorphizing of animals behaviour seemed fairly reasonable & not malicious at all.
(in my humble opinion)

What on earth could be considered even vaguely 'nasty/attacky', in my carefully-worded message?

You may well have hit the nail on the head with 'Okay, you're joking right?'
Smells like a troll to me...

The thought of one of my well-intentioned but facetious comments causing geniune hurt does quite upset me.
Looking back on this thread today & his responses to Mr Fish et al, I think OP was trolling....

perhaps not being able to empathise is more worrying.

Very sad that the kitty died (I had horrible flash backs of the time I ran over a kitty*) But all the time I watched the video, whilst feeling sad for the deaded kitteh and the confused kitteh. Was trying to work out what behaviour it was demonstrating rather than pretending that the kitteh was grieving in any kind of way.
Objectivity isn't the same as lacking empathy. Que Pissflaps having a go at me, dunno why he's taken a dislike to me

Apparently b3ta used to be a nice place where we told each other to fuck off rather than coming up with meaningful responses.
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:30, Reply)

I found that quite sad because I know that pigeons mate for life. Cats, however, don't. They are polymagous.
( , Mon 3 May 2010, 9:26, Reply)

And for that exactly that reason I found it extremely difficult to watch. It seems like seeing a child dealing with death in front of itself (but it shouldn't necessarily be constrained by aspects this analogy). Nevertheless because of its confusion, it's lack of knowledge, I felt a great deal of grief for the animal.
And with that I have to suspect that you're a very closed unemotional human since you haven't revealed a similar result and seemed quite the opposite. Or you've just been over-analysing what may be a basic emotion that is based on empathy and compassion. Both of which are hardly bad.
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:37, Reply)

I'm with you, but there are factors at work here worthy of discussion. I'm more interested in the anthropology surrounding the creation and distribution of this video. I care far more for humans than animals (not to say that I don't care for animals at all) as any sane human being who wishes to be part of society surely must. As I have intimated above, presenting animal behaviour in human terms is unhelpful.
I think it unwise to demonise, or at least present as some kind of aspergers case, those who you disagree with, that kind of thinking leads to all kind of dark places.
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:46, Reply)

So instead of diagnosing with a similar indifference to emotions that you seemed to apply in your post, I will offer a question. For someone who cares more for humans than for animals, you don't seem to find feelings a priority, as some seem to be hurt, is discussion more important to you?
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 0:58, Reply)

Everyone has a right to be offended. But they don't have a right not to be offended. To keep banging one particular drum, this link has been reposted by a second (unknowing) party with no preview and a NSFW -the kind of respect for the feelings for others I very much approve of.
Discussion is very important to me, perhaps moreso than preserving the emotional states of those involved, to close a topic from discourse is to strangle the mind. As with all things one must tread a balance; too afraid of causing offence and you'll never speak out against things you disagree with. As I have said above, filming this pathetic (in the true sense of the word)creature in this state, for this purpose is not a respectful act.
( , Sun 2 May 2010, 1:12, Reply)

It's expecting one in this thread I find suspect, if not that just a little bit foolish. Nevertheless your final point is a good one.

I'm with Metalfish to a degree; upon loading the video I thought this:
Aww that's cute...
...wait, is that cat dead?
Why the fuck am I watching a video of a dead cat?! >: <
