oo, lots of films I won't get round to seeing
lots of superheroes, I see. This is probably a good thing
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:34, Reply)
I'm not particularly enamoured of any of these
will probably see Paul and Thor and maybe some of the sequels (X men, transformers etc) but it all looks a bit meh, if I'm honest. Oh and I'll watch the Harry Potter but if I don't catch it when it's out at the cinema I won't be overly bothered.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:37, Reply)
I can't actually think of any to be honest
hummus (red pepper hummus is particularly nice) and crudites? Or roasted vegetable pasta - just buy a dish of veg to roast from sainsburys or tesco, they do prepacked stuff, stick it in the oven, boil some pasta and then maybe serve with some tomato sauce? Even you could make that! :P
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:24, Reply)
houmous is indeed on my list
Lemon one is the nicest. The pasta one sounds nice. Would you like to come cook for me?
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:26, Reply)
Haha, I can probably make you enough food
to feed you for about a month, if you have freezer space. You might need to buy some pots and pans, though...
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:29, Reply)
I did debate access to freezer space with Amberl when she was initiallly asked about recipe suggestions.

Well, bits of it are
Jake Gyllenhaal's bits
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:47, Reply)
I bought that on dvd about 18 months ago
still not watched it. I really should...
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:48, Reply)
You must.
I might watch it tonight...
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:49, Reply)
My old man went to see Brokeback Mountain after I got him and my mum tickets.
He hates going to the cinema and he if of an age whereby he views all things 'gay' with disgust.

I told him it was a western, he loves westerns. He saw a couple of cowboys on the picture advertising the film and was quite happy to go.

He called me a cunt after the film.

Still, my mum enjoyed it.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:52, Reply)
Haha, harsh!
but funny
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:53, Reply)
He didn't think so.

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:10, Reply)
Well she's all forrin too
So she gets words wrong too. Hence her telling my mum about the nursery for 'mongrel children' that had opened up the road. We eventually worked out she meant kids with downs.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:14, Reply)
Haha, you should hear my nana bang on about immigrants
I pointed out to her one day that she's from Germany and she slapped me.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:18, Reply)
Ah my nana's not racist
She's just never figured out what it isn't polite to say. We consider it a good visit if she's only told two of the four of us to go on a diet. I love her though.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:21, Reply)
Depends whether
you have a high boredom threshold
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:51, Reply)
tedious, is it?
I can probably tolerate it if there's some eye candy.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:54, Reply)
I wouldn't call it tedious
But if you're only in it for the eye candy, skip the first half hour.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:56, Reply)
It's a bit *too* lovingly shot
you sort of feel the story has been neglected for favour of nine hundred landscape shots. Plus moustachefail :(
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:00, Reply)
I completely agree with you on that
But the sexy parts are very good.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:03, Reply)
that is true

*There there*
I've never been to the cinema on my own (I never go to the cinema).

The thing that fills me with most dread about going on my own would be having to eat the orange Revels.

I went to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre on my own once. It was quite strange.

no-one will watch it :(
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 22:59, Reply)
Actually there's a film I want to see
It came out last month and I can't find anywhere screening it. Plus, all my friends think I'm a big freak for wanting to see it. It's called A Serbian Film and it looks awesome.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:02, Reply)
It looks terrible

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:03, Reply)
Couldn't fancy it
too extreme for me
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:03, Reply)
Oh god, saw the trailer, read the synopsis
NEVERRRRRRR
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:04, Reply)
Oh, wasn't that the one
with the horrific rape scene and which was just generally terrifying and horrendous?
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:04, Reply)
A mate had an uncut-version he downloaded.
He said it was sick.

Worse than human centipede.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:05, Reply)
Human Centipede was a crap film
once you got over the unpleasant concept, the actual film was rubbish.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:09, Reply)
But the Human Centipede wasn't scary
or even that gross.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:11, Reply)
Yeah but ultraviolence can be cool
Even if it's just to see how far you can push yourself. Plus, the concept looks interesting.

Or I'm just a freak trying to justify myself.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:11, Reply)
I disagree
but then I'm a pussy and I have absolutely no interest in that kind of thing.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:12, Reply)
Yeah
it's like with Saw. After the third movie I stopped watching them, it just became weirdly intense
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:16, Reply)
I never liked Saw or Hostel
I hate Hollywood torturepornesque films
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:17, Reply)
but isn't that pretty much
'A Serbian Film'?
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:19, Reply)
No, it's a political allegory, not just a pathetic excuse for the most extreme violence they can get away with.

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:22, Reply)
Like the Human Centipede
is a metaphor for the extremes of body modification in our society. Or an allegory for how science is dehumanising us
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:27, Reply)
Except the director of the Human Centipede didn't actually claim his film to be anything other
than a really sick idea which he turned into a film. The director of a Serbian Film actually thinks you can use allegory in films.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:29, Reply)
The director of Human Centipede
Just had a joke with his mates about how paedophiles should have their mouths grafted tp the arses of obese truckers. And thus, a classic was born...
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:35, Reply)
^this
The Hollywood ones are about gore over substance. The foreign ones tend to be ultraviolent to make a point.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:29, Reply)
I was being sarcastic
It is not a political allegory, it is just an excuse for a very grotesque film. Allegory doesn't work on film, no matter what the director says.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:30, Reply)
Yes but it is about furthering the plot
Not an excuse to show a frightened lass with her tits out pleading.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:32, Reply)
How can it further the plot?
I read the synopsis and it was awful. I couldn't spot any meaning to it at all. Suggestion is sometimes more powerful than exactly the same tripe that Saw 261 gives us.

Edit: in fact trying to give it a reason makes it worse. It's a perverse kind of justification. Pretty much the point that Al made above I guess
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:36, Reply)
Maybe it is
But I know I don't like Saw films. I don't know I don't like this until I see it.

It could just be that I want to see if I can handle watching it.*

I realise these are shit arguments but I've been smoking and watching Peep Show in bed all afternoon/evening. My brain is not working at the moment.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:41, Reply)
I see how my argument doesn't add up on paper (or screen)
But not really. I can't explain why without going into an epic explanation, and I'm on my phone.

Just trust me that in my head, they're different.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:24, Reply)
I'll take your word for it
Don't think there's anything that could persuade me to see it though!
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:29, Reply)
Stuff like that really doesn't bother me
I'm scarily good at compartmentalising :/

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:54, Reply)

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:10, Reply)
I saw Saw IV, I think it was, at the cinema
I ended up hiding for most of it and trying to crawl in to my friends lap for some of the more gruesome parts. Admittedly I fancied him rotten at the time but I really just do not have the stomach for gruesome stuff. Which is strange, given that I've helped out with a post mortem and seen actual real gore.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:17, Reply)
I can't watch Casualty for similar reasons.

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:28, Reply)
I do like worryingly violent films
Oldboy, Ichi the Killer, DeadGirl, that sort of stuff.

I know it's not a cool hip answer but just saw the trailer for this in the cinema and cannot wait.

Do they still show the Kiora adverts at the cinema?
Or those crappy adverts for local carpet warehouses, that are just a single imagine, rather than a proper filmed advert?

And do you still get two films?

Ahahaha they imbue that hotdog with considerably more promise than I reckon it ever delivered
this is hilariously retro. You're old :P

You know I'm old.

some of them I recognise
I think the last film I saw with an intermission was Ghostbusters 2

You don't look your age
(or act it) I remember this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jG3m0YfVmk&feature=related

Are you saying I look older?

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:58, Reply)
No, I was being nice for once.

(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:59, Reply)
Clearly I've taken care of myself over the years
this might not be true

Perhaps you are lightly pickled?
men age better than women do, anyway.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:02, Reply)
Women (in general) don't lose all their hair though.

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:03, Reply)
No, but why is that a problem?
besides, nature does a number of horrendous things to middle aged women, hair loss really isn't that bad.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:05, Reply)
I've got enough hair for now anyway.
I'll cross the loss-of-hair-bridge as and when it turns up.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:07, Reply)
Very sensible
when I first started losing a lot of weight I lost loads of hair, and the more you worry about it, the worse it gets.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:09, Reply)
I'm just too lazy to get a proper hair-cut.

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:15, Reply)
I would never have guessed...

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:18, Reply)
Not being a bird
I don't need to worry too much.

Neither have I been in the market for a new lady, thus meaning i'm quite happy to allow myself go to seed.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:20, Reply)
I get my hair cut 3 times a year at most
so you probably get yours done more often than I do. And unfortunately men are incredibly shallow, so if I were to stop making even the small efforts that I do, I'd be even less likely to get any attention.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:23, Reply)
If you were feeling brave, would would you do to your hair?

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:26, Reply)
I'd quite like to go short and spikey again
now that I'm thin enough to carry it off. But I like it being curly too much.
(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:31, Reply)
I'm gonna start a new thread.

(, Mon 3 Jan 2011, 0:32, Reply)
As a very young child I remember cinema intermissions
but I'm clearly not as old as Jeff.

Um Bongo Um Bongo They Drink it in the Congo!
In between genocide and ethnic cleansing.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:49, Reply)

Way down deep in the middle of the Congo,
A hippo took an apricot, a guava and a mango.
He stuck it with the others, and he danced a dainty tango.
The rhino said, "I know, we'll call it Um Bongo"
Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo.
The python picked the passion fruit, the marmoset the mandarin.
The parrot painted packets, that the whole caboodle landed in.
So when it comes to sun and fun and goodness in the jungle,
They all prefer the sunny funny one they call um bongo!

If I ever go to the cinema, it's for popcorn and hotdogs.
Who am I to judge though?
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:32, Reply)
Oh, shush you
that's not what I meant at all and you know it.
(, Sun 2 Jan 2011, 23:33, Reply)
You'd have been more upset if I'd have said nothing.
