OK, it's official. No-one cares which years films were released.
With George Clooney's hilarious remarks still resonating in my gin-hungover ears, I suggest 'Pleasantly Surprised'.

When were you last pleased to discover someone/thing/whatever was not Fucking Shit, despite your firmly believing so beforehand?
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 9:28, 164 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
I will reserve judgement for if and when I meet you to answer.

(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 9:30, Reply)
Never.
Everything is Fucking Shit.

Except for Sound of Da Police, and, by extension, Shy FX's Sound of The Beast.

things i like the sound of always surprise me when they turn out to be Fucking Shit.

in particular today i am annoyed about: my 13 year old cousin posting shots of her self-harming on fb (13? self-harming? wtf?) and my dad insisting that my brother/fiancee put his vile dreadful gold-digging slutwhore of a "girlfriend" on the top table at their wedding. this means i get bumped off the top table, which i don't mind in the least apart from that it is to accommodate that witch, but i DO mind her taking my mother's place in front of friends and family. this wedding is going to be a nightmare of biting my nails so i don't scratch her beady acquisitive little eyes out with them.

and breathe... oh no, wait, i can't because somebody gave me their FUCKING COLD...

That Caspa style wubstep is shit though.

I was sooooo tempted to post something just wind up Dozer
but that would be unseemly, now that I've stopped being uppity and realised he's A Nice Bloke.

I've mostly been disappointed by stuff lately; notably Glee, the shite new series of Skins. I suppose you could say that the Rocky Horror episode of Glee made me realise that the original musical was not the worst thing ever, as I'd previously suspected, because it proved possible to make it worse

EXACTLY
To give you chance to vent about something I know winds you up, do you think Chase & Status write all their new stuff to the opening ten seconds of Pink Floyd's "Money"?
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:08, Reply)
Yes.
They sometimes also motivate themselves with Mudhoney's version of The Money Will Roll Right in.
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:11, Reply)
I concur
Their transition from d'n'b wannabes to chart-friendly cash-machines was signifcantly more sudden than Pendulum's
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:16, Reply)
They have the same manager as Bendulum.

(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:27, Reply)
Yeah, I know
Funny how their career trajectory changed so suddenly, eh? Now you've got Nero, signed to C&S' label, making more Pendulum-lite poppery. I shouldn't complain, from my point of view it's a hell of a lot better than the mid-90's, when everyone wanted to sound like Oasis
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:32, Reply)
Everybody shit tried to sound like Oasis.
Spiritualized and Primal Scream made two of the finest albums of that period and sounded nothing like Oasis.
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:38, Reply)
You have to admit that Give Out But Don't Give Up was a change in direction for them though
Even if it was obviously much better than anything Oasis did, it wa still disappointing by their standards. And Screamadelica preceded Britpop, in fact part of my problem with that whole scene is that it killed British music's creativity stone dead just as it was threatening to get interesting.
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:48, Reply)
i was referring to Vanishing Point.
Their best record by a long way.

And compared to the first two, Give Out wasn't really a change in direction, just a step backwards.

The first three songs on it are superb though.
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:55, Reply)
got to love Lyre of Orpheus and that stuff though

(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:08, Reply)
Start of a downward trajectory.
Nocturama was poor. His best are Let Love In, Murder Ballads, Boatman's Call and Henry's Dream. Those records represent a pretty good run.
(, Thu 24 Feb 2011, 10:13, Reply)
I'm not that familiar with what songs are on what album really
But I am familiar with Murder Ballads and it is quality

D'you know what Monty, he was really boss.
I 'm sure you're setting me a trap but I can't tell lies. I thought his voice might have packed up but it hasn't.
He's a miserable cunt, and my mate had to interview him and said he was a bit strange, but I don't care. I love him.
I am disappointed that he did not do A Love Worth Waiting For but I'm glad he didn't do Breaking Up My Heart. My nana had the time of her life. She loves a bit of the old 'piano box'.

No trap. He's fucking brilliant.
The stuff he did with The Sunsets in the 70s was superb.
