Hello all
What are your plans for this evening? Mine are going to be rather depressing, so I'm hoping you lot have a better night than me!

Alt: Who was the last band you saw live? Were they good?
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:22, 117 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I have none.
Alt: I can't remember, so probably not.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:23, Reply)
This evening I shall be mostly...
...Having dinner at the G/F's and helping Emily with French homework.
Best band/performer was Tommy Emmanuel (supported by Andy McKee no less).

Frickin AWESOME!!
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:26, Reply)
I've seen McKee on the internet. Niggah got crazy $k1llz

(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:43, Reply)
Check out...
Tommy Emmanuel's 'Guitar boogie' on youtube.
I saw him do this live and I nearly cut off my fingers in the sure and certain knowledge that I'm never gonna be that good.

This evening I will mostly be laughing at my mum.
She was moaning just now how no one replies to her on Facebook. I had a look, and when she'd get an email notification, instead of clicking the link she'd press reply in Gmail and email her comments off to the Facebook notification email address. I like to think there's a puzzled bloke at Facebook HQ wondering what the flying fuck this mad old woman is doing emailing them inane drivel directly.

Alt: Pulp. I may have mentioned it. They were quite good.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:39, Reply)
I actually thought you could reply to an email from facebook and it would post it to your wall.
Or at least, I'm 99.99% sure that everyone has a unique facebook email address that they can email that'll post the content of the email in the right places on their wall.

Tonight, Matthew* I shall be sat at my computer downloading Jimi Hendrix bootlegs.
*if that is indeed your real name

Dr Jehosephat Ignatius Tugnut, late of this parish, pointed me in the direction of a site with literally dozens of unofficial Hendrix recordings on it - including him jamming with BB King, backed by Paul Butterfield's band - amazing stuff. It's the best site I've ever visited (fuck you B3ta): I have a lot to do.

Last band I saw was (I think) Hawkwind in the wonderful new theatre in Aylesbury. I was ripped to the tits on mushrooms and it was the best gig of theirs I've seen in about 20 years. The support was Dr Feelgood's Wilko Johnson, one of my favourite guitarists ever. What a night that was. It did wonders for me.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:40, Reply)
I don't like live bands, you can't change the track or the volume or smoke or hear your friends and they're never Semisonic, Eagle Eye Cherry or Third Eye Blind.

(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:50, Reply)
That's rubbish.
If you go and see Eagle Eye Cherry then I'm pretty sure it is. Unless there's some fake-ass EEC impersonator out there. I think that is more than a little unlikely.

More likely would be if EEC is now pretending he's not EEC. I wouldn't blame him.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:53, Reply)
I'd be gutted if it turns out to be Dr Dre or something like that.
Not that I'm being massivly over racist here and that's the only other black musician I know, I could have easerly said Gabireal (ermm, the almost blind bird)
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:55, Reply)
What about Youssou N'Dour? He's black.

Evening DG
I was aiming to see them on Saturday, but the capacity of the tent was nowhere near good enough, upon seeing the queue I decided to go and get pissed instead.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 17:58, Reply)
You probably wouldn't have been able to see them anyway
what with all the dry ice and stuff.

I'm off to my regular Tuesday night blues jam in a few minutes, so yes, I am probably am going to have a good evening.
Thank you for your concern.

Alt: Depends on the criteria. Last band I saw were the guys who followed my band on the bill at our last gig. Not wanting to sound arrogant about it, but they were fucking shit. An uninspired, tuneless wall of guitar chords and too damn loud for their own good.

On the other hand, the last band I went to see intentionally was probably the Matt Schofield Trio. And they were fucking excellent.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 19:09, Reply)
I often find bands are too loud
a lot of sound guys tend to crank the monitors too much as well. Tossers.
(, Tue 12 Jul 2011, 19:11, Reply)
I watched them soundcheck
To be fair, I didn't rate the sound guy's competency in insisting on miking the amps, given that they were already too loud for a room that size. And oh, surprise surprise, you can barely hear the vocals without sending the PA into squealing feedback.
