no meat. it's all horrible shit.
vegetables - mushrooms, onions and peppers in garlic and chilli. this is true whether it's on a pizza, with pasta, with salmon and rice, with courgettes and tomatoes as a side dish...

no. the finest record ever made is undoubtedly "eternal flame". by the bangles. not the subsequent cover by fake tanned scousers "nuclear pussy".

I still don't see how you can claim to be vegetarian but eat fish.
At the very least you are pescatarian.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:14, Reply)
Fish are vegetables. Scientific fact.
God, you're so iggerant.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:15, Reply)
iggerant? That unpossible!

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:17, Reply)
I never understand pescatarians
A fish will feed a man, a cow will feed 50. A bowl of prawns contains mass animal death but they nosh away at the hundreds of murdered sea creatures.

Yummmmm
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:17, Reply)
because i am fussy
i like some fish. i hate all meat. and i hate seafood, like lobsters and prawns. i don't want to have to fight my food before i can eat it, ta.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:20, Reply)
Fairly confident all fish is seafood Rach

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:21, Reply)
except for freshwater fish, amirite?

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:22, Reply)
Yes.

not on a menu in a fancy restaurant, it ain't!

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:23, Reply)
still, vegetarians don't eat fish.
Clue is in the descriptor.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:22, Reply)
This is a particular bugbear of mine
Anyone who says they're vegetarian, but eat fish, is too lazy to explain what pescetarian means at best and a complete fucking idiot at worst. There's a word specifically developed for their choice of diet for gods sake, use it.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:21, Reply)
I say vegetrian, because it's agauranteed to get me food i'll eat
and also "I mostly eat just vegetables, but sometimes fish, except I dislike most seafood and it certain special circumstances am OK with meat, but I still wouldn't choose it" is a fucking mouthful.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:24, Reply)
I always overreact to this particular subject
Mainly because of a running argument with a girl I used to know on the UEA Ballroom team, who seemed to think that being vegetarian made her better than anyone else and even upbraided me for daring to not rescind my carnivore status despite rarely eating meat. Then it turned out that she ate fish, but still considered herself a morally superior veggie. Grr.

Point.
I bet I could start a thread that would put you in a minority of one, however as I believe the majority is most often wrong, I suppose I should respect your wrong and perverted views.

vegetarianism, arable farmers, pescatarianism and seamen.
Amirite?

Well, there is an arguement that fish is generally non-farmed and thus moraly better
This is my view, the death of animals bother's me very little but the mistreatment does somewhat. No excuse to be cuntish about it though. it's also that we live in a fairly binary world, so it's easier to have the Vegetarian label even when (as in my case) you eat fish and very occasionally meat. although it's a plus that pescatarian is gaining recognition, but leaves me explaining that I just do not like most seafood, unless it's cooked by Gonz, or in breadcrumbs.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:37, Reply)
Non-farmed fishing is sweeping the oceans clean and making several species slide dangerously close to extinction.
If anything, farming is the more sustainable choice.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:40, Reply)
What he said
I won't eat cod or tuna unless I know it's been sustainably sourced
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:41, Reply)
Also haddock and basically all the fish and chip shop varieties.
You're really only safe with the ones you've never heard of.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:44, Reply)
Octopus sushi is fucking lovely
I hope there's still plenty of them about
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:46, Reply)
"the death of animals bother's me very little but the mistreatment does somewhat."
Do not assume that because I am a vegetarian* I am a hippy, or indeed a nice person.

*see previous disclaimers and conditions etc.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:42, Reply)
Fishing to extinction could be argued to be "mistreatment".

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:45, Reply)
Yes dear.
To clarify: I do not give a flying fuck about animals dying (even to the extent that they become extinct) But I do not wish them to suffer needless pain/discomfort during their lifetimes. In line with this, I generally eat vegetables, sometimes fish, and very, very occasionally (so far once every 2.5 years) ethically sourced meat.

If you are bothered by over fishing I suggest you stop eating fish.

My eating habits are in line with my beliefs, and I have no more interest in pushing them on others than I have in others pushing theirs on me.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:51, Reply)
I find it annoying when people
impose certain things on you and are judgemental - if you are a ____ then you must do ____. especially when they are not of that group.

Wow, that was badly explained
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:40, Reply)
It's not that I think vegetarians MUST do anything
I appreciate there are levels of dedication; Ms Foxtrot won't wear or buy leather, for example, which some vegetarians don't concern themselves with. But to say you're a vegetarian who eats fish is just fibbing. The word is pescetarian.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:44, Reply)
The word is hypocritical.

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:45, Reply)
is that a proper word, or did we just make it up?

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:45, Reply)
What, "pescetarian"?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pescetarian
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:47, Reply)
OK, so we made it up, but it's made it into dictionaries, fair dos.

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:54, Reply)
I would have preferred "fussy cunts" myself

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:56, Reply)
Well, yes, may start describing myself as such.
Well fussy, anyway, cunt might not go down well.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:59, Reply)
I think all words are made up, at some point.
Television, for example. Some poncey arse decided it would be more acceptable if it had a classically-derived name.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:47, Reply)
well they don't just exist in some kind of ether
we can snatch them from. Meaning is usage and all that
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:50, Reply)
yesbut
I reckon there's a difference between "Table" and "PIDery" as one was made up ages ago and everyone know what it means, and one I made up a month ago and only 3 other people know what it means. Obviously there are shades in between and community specific words like "mindpiss"..... anyway, erm stuff.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:58, Reply)
that's kind of the point I was making
words become 'proper' words when people use them and others understand them.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 12:00, Reply)
indeed, I just wasn't sure how much that word was in common usage.
Also the problem with this line is that if enough people start misusing words we have to accept that phrases like "I could care les" are valid, even if they sound like gibberish.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 12:12, Reply)
My ex claimed to be a vegetarian
But she ate Chicken Fajitas, Burgers and Sausages when cooked on a BBQ and kebabs. So thats Chicken, Beef, Pork and Lamb covered.

Oh and cock.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:50, Reply)
Yes.
Although, in terms of linguistics, it's true, I am not a vegetarian, so I won't complain if told I'm not one.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:44, Reply)
apparently I look vegetarian
even people i've known for years think I am. I'm way too lazy/a bad cook to be
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:43, Reply)
It's the paleness.

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:55, Reply)
I would consider Salmon to be a meat
Seeing as the poor innocent fishy has to die so you can consume its dead flesh
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:15, Reply)
Tasty tasty dead flesh.

(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:16, Reply)
i don't disagree with anyone eating meat
as i think our bodies are meant to do that. i do, however, disagree massively with the meat industry and the way a lot of the animals are treated. that makes me gibber with rage.

i will happily cook meat for anyone, so long as i've bought it and i know it's organic/free-range etc. but i am highly relieved that the current shaggee, being half-muslim, appeases his dad by not eating pork. so NO BACON SANDWICHES IN THE MORNING. thank god. how i loathe the smell of bacon!
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:23, Reply)
No sane person can loate the smell of bacon
Its about 100 times better than the taste of it
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:28, Reply)
He doesn't eat pork at your house
because he's spent the whole morning on his knees at the gym noshing on literally dozens of sausages.

How can you be Half Muslim?
Now, I'm no expert, but I've heard that they're pretty hot on you either being one thing or the other. Does he tell folk at the Mosque he's 'half Infidel'?

As in, he's missing a 'lim'
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:33, Reply)
you can be muslim at home, in terms of customs and behaviour
And secular in everything else. That's a remarkably ignorant thing to say.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:34, Reply)
Maybe swipe is insinuating that "Muslim" is a race.
We all know how profoundly racist she is.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:37, Reply)
The amount of fat and protein in our ancestral diet
Of fruit, nuts and tubers compared to the effort required to obtain meant much of the time was spent foraging. By comparison chowing down on a carcass meant spending the rest of the day sitting around picking our teeth and saying, "you know, Bob, we should figure out a way to do this more often."

I have that version of Eternal Flame!

I didn't realise you eat salmon, I do amazing things with salmon.
One dish that I make is tandoori salmon with a slightly creamy sauce on a bed of onions wrapped up in a chappati. SOOOO Lush, and the whole thing only takes about 4 minutes to make and 30 minutes to cook.

Just, you know, if you were ever to, ermm, you know, INVITE ME OVER SO I CAN COOK FOR YOU.
